Westside/PLing Training Thread

You go right ahead and “do Westside” and keep up with your pathetic lifts, but don’t trash the people who work hard and try to better themselves and get stronger with a program/template/whatever you want to call it, that you don’t approve of.

Perhaps you should ask your doc to up your meds if you really speak with inanimate objects.

Who was “trashing” anyone? I just want to see the logic in people’s tinkering with the WSB template in the manner that they do? Also, if you really speak with inanimate objects, perhaps you should ask your doc to up your meds.

I never know why I bother responding to your posts. Anyway…

You have a terrible reputation for being insulting and ignorant. Therefore, anything you say will be looked at through that lens.

The PCT comment is a perfect example. Perhaps you assume that anyone stronger than you is juicing. That in itself, is idiotic. Or maybe you consider it an insult by calling people juicers, in which case you are again misinformed. Not everyone who chooses not to “use” is stupid enough to try and insult people who do.

And in regards to your question about why what we are doing does not resemble WS…the answer is because “we feel like it.” When (if) you train, you learn things about your body and what works and what doesn’t.

I would also like to point out that many guys out of WS have said “IF YOU’RE NOT TRAINING AT WESTSIDE, YOU’RE NOT DOING WESTSIDE”.

Take what works and leave what doesn’t. It’s that simple…or at least it should be.

Keg Clean & Press

Water filled keg (170lbs?)

x2 (first rep strict press), 2, 2, 3

A LOT easier this week I don’t think I’ll have a problem with these.

Tire flip

23.5x25 tire no idea of weight

6 flips 54 seconds YUCK! Slow

6 flips 38 seconds!! NICE FAST! PR for sure

6 flips 48 seconds Started to get a little tired

My conditioning is getting better…

Seated Cable row

140x10
190x8
190x6

Some curls

Than had my cheat/refeed meal of a huge plate of cheesy eggs, potatoes, bacon, and biscuits. Sundays rule.

Nice, man.

Lugging around 10lbs less of dead weight probably doesn’t hurt your conditioning much!

Nope, I felt awesome while doing the tire flips, I really attached the damn thing, I need to get a heavier tire. I actually weighed 192.5 this morning but I am sure I was dehydrated because that would be -3lbs in one day…

Putting a keg over your head is fun to.

So you start Sheiko next week?

12/16/2007 ME lower
manta ray box squat
bar x 10
95 x 5
135 x 4
185 x 3
225 x 3
275 x 3
305 x 3
325 x 3 PR (baseline)

snatch grip deads
135 x 5
225 x 3
335 x 3, 3, 3, 3

pull throughs
80 x 15
100 x 15
125 x 15

decline situps
BW x 20
10 (plate on head) x 20, 20

That manta-ray was hard to get used to. I’ve got nice strawberry patches all over my traps. That 325 was a bitch on the last one. I think I annoyed some personal trainer chick with my grunting Wink I actually like the snatch grip deads. I can tell right away that they’re good for me. Back was totally fried after this workout, but feels good today.

ME Upper

(I knew I should have changed it up…on the 3rd week. But normally 3 weeks is the normal limit for me. But this week, I instictively knew I should change. I didn’t listen, and therefore had a pretty disappointing session today).

Flat Bench Press:
barx20
40kg x10
50kg x8
60kg x5
80kg x3
90kg x1
100kg x1
112.2kg fail
110 kg fail (I know I can do this…just couldn’t do it today)
90kg x5 (I know I can do at least 1 more…I just couldn’t do it today…not after this guy who was watching tried to “encourage me” by saying “EAT ME!” This totally broke my focus and I cracked up…could’nt lift it after that).

Push Presses:

50kg x3, x3
55kg x3, x3
60kg x3 (#3 was a grinder, but finished)

Curl bar/Palms Up BB Rows:
60kg: 9,10,10,7 (Had an “eat me” flashback which ruined the final set)

Shoulder Width Tricep Pressdowns:

6th pin: 7
5th Pin: 10,10,10

Nada PR today.

From my own experence, the number of consecutive weeks that I can do ME work with same movement is different depending on the movement. For, example I can probably board press for 3 weeks, but I can barely get away with full range for 2. Just something to think about.

Pemdas,

Thanks a lot for that. There’s definitely merit to what you say. Of course I have to ask if that applies (personally to you) to both ME Upper as well as ME lower.

I’m going to think about this and peruse my journal to see if it appears to be true for me as well.

Thanks again,

Absolutely, I can not deadlift more than one week in a row. Box Squats I usually get 2, with safety bar I can swing 3, but usually stop at 2 anyway.

Good luck man, by next week i meant tomorrow (today). I don’t count Sunday as the first day of the week, haha.

You sure are dropping weight pretty quick. Maybe you should come out with the strongman/protein-man diet? I’m up to 186.5 now. Pretty soon, I’m gonna weigh more than you!

Oh well, at least one of us is going to be a sexy hunk of meat. Me on the other hand will be one fat tub of lard, and that’ll be a nice change after being a beanpole for all my life.

12/17/2007 ME Lower:

Bad day, reinforced the fact that sometime sI have shit for brains.

Sumo DL:
135x5x2
225x3
275x1
315x1
365x1 ouch
295x1
335x1 done…

Killed my back by not doing enough warm up and stretching. Feel like a total idiot, pretty much couldn’t do anything after that except lay on the floor. 365 was too heavy to soon.

Good Mornings:
45x8x3

Cable Pull Through:
80x8
120x8
140x8

Absolutely killed myself on the deads, should have gotten 405 today but I rushed and hurt myself. The good thing is at least I knew I needed to stop and further injure myself unlike my usual attitude. Still very upset with myself. I’m feeling almost 100x better now so it would appear to have been nothing to serious.

12/17/07 - Lower (ME)

A) 14" Box Squat - Triples
barx10
135x8
225x5
315x3
355x1
395x3 (PR +10lbs)
365x3
365x3

B) RDL
135x6
225x6
315x6
405x6
425x6! (PR +20lbs)

C) Pendlay Rows
135x6
225x6
275x6 (PR +10lbs) (hook grip…ouch)
275x6
275x6

D) Rope Crunch
100x10
130x8
130x8
120x8

This was a good first day back at it. PR’s in just about everything. I might have been good for 405 on the box squat if I had skipped the 395x3. As my box squat goes up, so does everything else, so let’s keep this one rolling.

I’ve been playing around with a hook grip on Deads, Shrugs, and Rows lately, just because I feel like my traps develop unevenly with an alternating grip. The hook grip is taking a while to get used to, even at 275. Suck it up…

Good stuff today.

Heal up man. Warmups looked a little short…

How about this for warmups:

135x8
225x5
275x3
315x3
365x1
405x1

Does the beginning Sheiko routine take 2.5 hours per workout? I would love to try it, but can’t spend more then 1.5 hours a day training.

Definitely something like that would have been a lot better. Switching to singles to fast always causes problems, I was still stiff from sleeping.
