Congratulations on the PRs Modi. I like your attempt strategy. Cheers on the video!

How much rest do you take in all sets?
AND, like what time take this wokout ?

I’m not really sure about the rest. Not much as I’m working up, but probably 2 minutes or so from 405 up. It took me about an hour to do the whole workout. I know, only 4 exercises, but ME work takes a while for me and I need lots of rest after the 10 rep sets of V-Squats.
Great Job Modi! Hope Matt did as well.
Your squat and DL numbers are so whoreish, they border on the slut line.
Red lights on your last lift means you held nothing back, especially hitting PR’s on the 2nd attempts.
Congrats, you super raw freak!

The good mornings felt really solid. I was going nice and deep, and coming up out of the hole quickly and smoothly. I think I’ll do some more weight next week.

Great meet Modi and I loved the videos! Way to go and show us how it’s done, our resident PR Whore!
Hey everyone,
Just got back from the 2007 APF Pine Tree Meet. I had a great time this weekend. Stayed with 2 guys I didn’t know real well but they both ended up being really good guys. It was nice to have them, Modi, and EC at the same meet and it felt like solid teamwork and support.
Onto the good stuff, I weighed in at 196 to compete in the 198 class. There was no unequipped division, but I wore only a belt and wrist wraps. EVERYTHING was basically a BW PR seeing as I dropped 21lbs since my last comp.
Squat
1st- 155 ------ 341.5- PASS
2nd- 170 ----- 374.7- PASS (Matched Gym PR of 375)
3rd- 177.5 — 391.2- MISS
Bench
1st- 115 ----- 253.5 PASS
2nd- 125 ----- 275.5- PASS (11lb Meet PR)
3rd- 135 ----- 297.5- MISS
Deadlift
1st- 202.5 — 446.2- PASS
2nd- 230 ----- 507- PASS (2.58xBW- PR- First DL over 2.5xBW)
3rd- 232.5 — 512.5- PASS (2.61xBW- Bodyweight PR)
Total- 527.5kg 1160.5lb
The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Squat- Warming up was odd squatting with no mirror. Someone joked that the IPF called and wanted their depth back, so that’s always good. I really was able to dive-bomb all of my attempts which took a bit of confidence. I could have hit a few more pounds I’m sure. I think that the last one just got WAY too low on me.
Bench- I had the perfect setup, I found out how to get my feet behind me, and the ass didn’t once come close to moving up. I smoked my opener and the 275, and I almost certainly could have gotten 285-290, but I jumped a bit too much and had a big miss on it.
Deadlift- Felt pretty great. Took a very big hit (or 2, or 3) of ammonia on the second attempt and spit up some blood afterwards (at least I think it was). The deadlifts felt slow, but not THAT slow. I need to check the video again, but it looked like my last pull may have been faster than my 512.5 at my last meet.
PR in the bench, first time squatting in the meet so everything there was a PR, and BW coefficient PRs in the deadlift including my first ever 2.5xBW (and 2.6xBW) pull.
My mind was just right the entire day. Even though we were there for 12 hours or so, I can’t say I felt tired at any point, and I never felt overly jacked up or anxious except right when I needed it, immediately before my attempts. I had smooth energy all day. I expected to be in shambles today, but I woke up after 9 hours of sleep feeling great and like I did nothing more than have a tough workout the day before.
I’m already looking for my next meet. ![]()
Videos soon.

Great job Matt! Especially for a first meet! Looks like you and Modi are both slutty whores now.
Loved the comentary, felt like I was there, except when you coughed up that ick.
So are you addicted? One in Albany NY on Jan 26th [photo]8453[/photo]

Hey, were you squatting out of a monolift? How come you walked it out? Or was it not a monolift. Sorry for the question, I can’t really tell in the video.[/quote]
Yes it was a monolift, but I’ve only used one for one set of practice reps at 135 and didn’t feel comfortable setting up when I did it. If I had one to practice with, I wouldn’t have walked it out, but I wasn’t going to change my set up on the day of the meet. Also, I don’t squat so wide that I can’t walk it out by myself. Good catch though.

Don’t let him fool you, he’s no virgin. That was actually his second meet. It was his first full PL meet, but we did a Push/Pull back in May or June together. He just dropped down to 198’s from 220 at the last one.

Thanks C.! And it’s true…I may not be a whore the caliber of Modi, but I’m no virgin.
You can say that this felt just like the first time though. ![]()
Adding the squat really makes it something even more enjoyable as well, as I’d say bench is probably my least favorite lift of the 3.
Jan 26th is a wee bit close for me, especially considering that I’ll probably take this week off and the week before the meet off.
I believe Modi and I are both interested in trying to find something in April or May. That’ll give me enough time to hit some even more solid PRs.

Ah Modi, that makes a lot of sense. For you, what was the first big difference between trying to squat out of a rack and trying out of a monolift the first time you did it?

70 x 10, 10

BW x 20 x 4

Those PRs are baseline PRs basically, but I was really happy with them so I’m marking them baby. I’m especially happy with the GMs. Lower back was a bit tired for the deads, but feels good otherwise. I gave 395 a shot for the hell of it after Brian smoked it but that sucker wasn’t moving for me. I am accident prone in the gym so I decided I would chronicle my self-injuries for everyone’s amusement. I feel really good about today’s session.

Damn right. I think they need to have a squat/DL comp. Benching sucks.

Our gym usually has one in the spring too. So I’ll keep you posted. I’ll get you guys up here to compete eventually. And we have lotsa raw lifters.

The big difference is that I’m used to taking the bar out of the rack with a narrow stance and then stepping back and out. I just wasn’t comfortable with taking the bar out in such a wide stance. Also, you tend to set the mono lower then you do when taking it out of a rack with a narrower stance.
It wouldn’t be hard to get used to a monolift, I just didn’t have access to one, and the last thing I wanted to do was to experiment with setup on the day of a meet.
I guess the last thing is that the spotters aren’t used to people walking it out of the mono, so I walked back into the spotter on the first lift, which throws you off a bit.
