Westside/PLing Training Thread

Evening.

Thought i-d pass by seeing that last time was just regarding my messed up achilles tendon.

It-s been two weeks now and I had my first leg session last night. It-s feeling pretty tight so the physio makes me stretch it a lot but the good thing is it really makes you lean back on your heels during the squat (ha)

went pretty heavy (for me) which was fun (390) and felt fine.

I-ve just signed up for (my first) a national comp here in scotland, junior division. I need to add a few pounds to my squat and bench but hopefully by then (nov) ill be contending for first place. I know that-s ambitious for a first timer but heck, if you dont have high goals well, you-ve got nothing to reach for. This being said, im going more for the experience than anything else. It-s RAW.

Well, I’m back from the hottest place on earth…Alabama. It was so fucking hot there that I had constant swamp ass. As if that wasn’t bad enough. My mother talked me into shingling her garage. Phill and Modi can relate to the pain in the ass that it is.

I first had to lay new plywood. It hit 110 with 90% humidity. I lost 10 pounds of water that day.

but I’m back and finally in the gym again.

You know, that reminds me of walking home from the gym and the sweaty legs start rubbing themselves raw. Always takes me an extra ten min to get home because of the slower pace.

NOTES: My shoulders are definitely feeling a little beat up today from the benching. I’m still trying to consistently hit a good bar path and the moderately heavy weight helps with that, plus with enough sets I can get enough volume in to build/maintain muscle.

When I hit that path, everything feels smooth and easy, but when I stray far from it even 255 gets a little cumbersome.

Bar x some, slow

185 x 2, faster
225 x 2 full speed

Squatting, as always lately, felt solid and smooth. 420 is a 5 lb. PR and I managed 3 singles with it. I was happy with that and decided against a 5th lift over 90%. I just didn’t feel it was necessary.

B)Power Squat (H.S. V-Squat facing backwards)
234 x 3
584 x 8 x 3

I can’t load any more weight on this machine and I don’t have the mental fortitude to pause at the bottom or go for higher reps yet, so I’m settling with moving the weight faster and resting less between sets. The third set of these was really a test of mental toughness for me.

C1)Single Leg Back Raise w/ 15 lb. DB=10 x 3

I managed to get viral gastroenteritis last week and I am just now getting over it. I did set a PR for most times on the toilet per hour (possibly even guiness world record) and all the straining did work the abs and posterior chain hard.

Hopefully I can actually lift a weight tomorrow or Monday. Just worried how much strength I shit away (literally) over the past week.

Boy my conditioning is Shot. This may not look like much but it was just over an hours after dragging all the stuff out set up etc etc. and It kicked my tail. Need to keep this type of stuff for one day a week for sure

Was going to harness up now and drag my truck but I was just cooked each set was less then 2 mins and not really that heavy but man its about friggin cooked my goose need to keep doing this

I feel your strain…I mean pain. :slight_smile: I lost so much water weight sweating my ass off that it took me 4 days to get it back.
I had a good session today but I could didn’t have any endurance.
I’m sure you will be back whoring it up with the rest in no time.

I know what you mean. My wife likes to go for “walks”. Now my idea of a walk is to the mailbox and back. She wants to walk around the neighborhood at a racing pace. after the first 10 feet my lower back is tight and the thighs are pumped and the rub starts at the knees all the way up to the daddy parts.
