8/11/07 Full Body

I had to combine my Friday and Saturday workouts this week due to work scheduling. I’m sitting here recovering from my buddy’s bachelor party that I returned home from about 5 hours ago.

A)ME Squat
Bar x some
135 x 3
185 x 3
225 x 3
275 x 3
315 x 3
365 x 1
385 x 1
405 x 1
425 x 1 x 4 (PR for volume at this weight)

B1)Flat DB Bench=50 x 3, 110 x 6 x 4

B2)Weighted Pullup=BW x 3, BW + 25 x 6 x 4

C1)Single-Leg Back Raise=12 x 3

C2)Hanging Pike=8 x 3

NOTES: Squats continue to feel solid and everything else in this session went reasonably well.

I ate like hell yesterday, didn’t drink enough water and had a few too many drinks, so today will be all about healthy food and lots of water. Hopefully a nap later too.
Bro thats one helllllllll of a W/O if the bachelor party was anything like the ones im thinking. Id be lucky to just be alive and walking let alone squatting. Nice work

NICE work. Thats from the stones??? I usually get that from the damn tires and kegs gotta love it LOL

Yup stones…
the platform was something around 54-56"s I think which is TALL for my height… I had to cradle the stone in my arms and lift it up high onto my chest to load, easier than I thought it would be though… The picture once uploaded is harder to see the extent of it.

here is one of the left arm, smaller but the deepest bruise.

Great work Kalle! Ballsy to come back after a 15 min pukefest and push through the whole thing. I definitely would’ve called it quits. Fifteen minutes has to be a PR for puking, LOL. Nice bruises, too. Chicks dig guys with bruises.

Thanks novaeer! Defiantly a PR for training induced puking. I remember a few rough nights of drinking waking up at 6:00 in the morning hugging the toilet for a few hours which felt a lot worse.

RE Lower and Upper (sort of)

Didn’t train today and training for tomorrow is in doubt. After Friday’s session I went to our housing development’s community center/pool to partake in some grilled hamburgers. Big mistake. I got nailed with a nasty case of food poisoning–liquid shooting out of both ends, literally shooting, 103+ temp, you name it. I nearly ended up going to the emergency room. Yeah, it got that bad. My no puke streak ended at 4 years and 2 months.

Feeling a lot better now, thank goodness. I’m back to solid foods and only on the john every few hours or so instead of once every 20 minutes doing my best imitation of Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber. I’ll have to step on a scale to see how much weight I’ve lost, but I can tell that I definitely dropped a few. Hopefully strength won’t get hit too hard and equipment won’t be too loose on me.

Hey Kalle, great work man and thanks for the writeup. Let me ask, what you think are your biggest limiting factors that are preventing you from doing better? Just curious

Also, 40 dollar filet mignon tastes worse coming up than going down as well. Especially when you are passed out in the employee’s bathroom til 6:30AM.

Well that was by far the most physically taxing day I have ever had, I got 3rd… out of 3 :frowning: but it was a close battle between me and 2nd place guy, we where withen a few feet/seconds on every event. I ended up 1 point behind… AGAIN! GREAT time though, I’ll post a full writeup later when I’ve collected my bearings… I am still a little out of it. BTW I found one thing today, Surge DOES NOT taste as good coming up as it does going down.
Thanks Matt, and thanks for asking that question, it is something I was thinking about, and meant to post.

Overall just being stronger is the main thing, I need to increase my deadlift, squat, front squat, pressing, etc…

If I got stronger everything wouldn’t be so max effort for me if I reach my 1 rep goals I have in my profile I would be at a fairly good spot for a 200lb competitor.

Deadlift, I need a lot more lower/hamstring strength. My back is strong but I struggle off the floor (never missed a lift I have broke off the floor) This also will transfer over to the stones. For the stones I just need to do them more often, every other week, end of story. Just need to make some.

For my overhead I need a lot more shoulder and tricep strength My leg drive is usually good I just can’t finish the press once I pop it off my chest.

Better conditioning and recovery: my conditioning was atrocious before I started focusing on it more, I have made big improvements but it could still be better. If you would have told me I would flip a 500-650lb tire for 80+ feet I wouldn’t have believed you. Tying along this same line I need better muscular endurance, need to train for longer distances more often, at least 1 thing for 100-200ft every 2-3 weeks.

Better grip, with my small hands it will never be a strong point but just need to keep working at it.

A couple things I plan/need to do is more vertical pulling, Ive never been good at pull/chinups and all the weight gain hasn’t helped that so I don’t do any vertical pulling near enough, same thing with deeps. If anyone notices me not doing these every week please call me out on it.

do just about all my pulling off a platform or snatch grip

other stuff I can’t think of right now.

Thanks again Matt and your welcome about the write up, sounds like you had a fun weekend to!

That sucks bro had that crap a few times rest up stay hydrated as hell an flush it out.

On a related note the Worlds Strongest Nation contest they were just in Poland I think it was and half the competitors got food poisoning from the vendor couple guys bad enough had to back out and be hospitalized. crazy stuff. Seems America came out OK with just Poundstone coming ill but able to stick it out

Thanks yhea hopefully will come back fast that was way to much weight way to fast. Ill give it a go though get a PR of some type or give my best trying. Stay as fed, hydrated and rested as I can

Thanks again

Good way to spot those weaknesses bro/ Ill just say on the one part the low back str for DL Kegs, stone. You might think about adding Zercher DL’s in the really force you to round the hell out of that back and get low. these really helped me go from hitting a hard 300lb keg one time to hitting it 4-5 times in 30 seconds. They are brutal and have to drop the loads but helped me

I think Tom Mclure said he got food poisoning as well, reading his training log… competing internationally must be very hard.

Thanks Phill, yes I plan on doing these as well do you think it would be overkill to do them and stones in the same week?

Same week hell yhea. Id give it a few days though and be prepared to be humbled. Go as LOW as you can on then and just lower the load. I do them as a second as well not a first ME just do to the tiny load in relation used LOL. I actually plan on giving them a go tomorrow I think the arm is more then ready to handle them again

But for instance. Just went back and looked at my PR’s and after working on these a bit My PR to date which was pre injury was a whopping 325 x 1 and that was a grinder. The hard part is getting that damn thing out of the bottom. Your balled way the hell up a lt more so then when grabbing a stone or keg. your elbows are pretty much as low to the ground as you can get em but it really works that starting strenght and the same muscles it takes to get that POP on the kegs and stones

have a blast let us know how they go

Finally got a chance to check back in on this thread. Great job Kalle! Those were some great efforts that you put forth in this meet. And, those bruises look cool!

Make sure you get a lot of rest since you’ve got another one coming up on the 25th. But why would you sign up for another meet so close to this last one…
