I never realized how few photos I have of myself until I started trying to find a pic taken in the last year or two.

Yesterday i did DE Upper, wont post cos most of the session was particularly average. However, one great thing came from it. My speed has seriously improved after the 3 previous weeks of using chains!

I used 65KG for 8 sets of 3 reps and felt quick on them all. Before using the chains i always felt fast with 50%ish but slow as the weight moved to 60%.

So i’ll now use 3 week mini cycles, with and witout chains. I’ll add bands at a later date.

07/17/07 - Squat (ME)

A) Back Squat
barx15
135x12
225x8
315x3
365x1
405x1
445xmiss
365x3
225x20 (rep PR) & punishment

B) Cybex Hack Squat
90x12
180x8
180x8
180x8

C) Pullups (wide overhand)
12
12
10

D) Kneeling Rope Lat Pulldown
80x10
110x10
130x10
150x15 (PR +7reps)

I was feeling a little tired/weak going into this session, but I wasn’t going to let it get me down.

Squats were going OK, but when I stepped out with 445, which would have been a 10lb PR, it just felt heavy. I had difficulty getting my feet set, and the whole attempt sucked. I decended very slowly, got maybe 1/3 or 1/2 way up and had nothing in the tank, absolutely got buried under this load.

Dropped the weight to 365 to work my way back up and that felt heavy too, so that’s when I decided a 20 rep set was just what I needed to wake myself up…we all know how well that works.

The only high point was doing rope lat pulldowns which I haven’t done since December and going from 150x8 to 150x15.

I weighed in after the workout at 241.2, down more than 7lbs since last Thursday. I’m chugging the water right now, as I’m dehydrated as all hell. I wish I could blame the squats on the sunburn pain, but in the end, I just think the sun drained me and left me shriveled up like a raisin.

Phill, you are officially ahead of me in bodyweight. Hopefully that doesn’t last more than 24 hours. I figure I’m atleast a gallon short on water right now.

Fucking pathetic day in the gym.
Nice sess, im sure you’ll hit 445 soon. I once did a cycle of 20 rep squats and hit 225 for 20 as you did. To this day that remains the hardest set i’ve ever hit in the gym. The last 5 were majorly rest pause!

I wouldn’t get any where near that now, i found 20rep endurance needed training week in week out to get good at it.
Kalle wrote:
hey man I think you are making alot of the same mistake I do, I need to make more attempts at 90%+ and not push the PR’s every week, a few singles at 100% one week than go for a PR the next week. I also find you can’t get away with a miss and than another PR attempt very often. Than you are just frustrated and you went for a DL PR after you pulled a big DL PR last week. That many misses is hell on my CNS.
I think I still need to learn my limits. I’ve notice that I overshoot and think that I have more weight in me than I really do. I’ve been feeling really good on the sets right before my PRs attempt, but when I get to the actual attempt, it’s like I just hit a wall. It may be a CNS thing, I’ll have to watch how I approach PRs and learn more about what I can and cannot handle.

Have fun in Taiwan man, I would use this time for a bit of a deload, come back from a nice vacation rested and bust some PRS!!
I’m not sure I’m ready for a deload yet. I’ve just started and I still feel like I’ve got more growth in me. I’ll definitely try to find things to do in Taiwan. It’ll probably end up being a deload compared to the things that I do now in the States, but hopefully it’ll be new and push my body in different ways than it is used to.

Somehow I overlooked that statement…Hopefully you smash my DL because yours is going up, not because mine is going down. LOL!

243.2lb today and pissing every hour on the hour.

Hey guys,

I’m still around… I’ve just been a lazy ass about keeping up with the thread lately. Saturday the 6 and 7th was my 20 year class reunion. My avatar pic comes from the gathering. Upon seeing the photo, I thought, ā€œHoly shit, I’ve grown.ā€

Nice job on the bulk 4est!

Don’t be so damned lazy with your posts. We missed you around here.

Haha, I wasn’t particulary pleased with that session…and I definitely don’t care to get good at 20 rep anything, I just felt like I needed a wake up call, and the bar was already loaded so I started squatting.

But thanks for the compliment, even if undeserved.

Yup exactly my same problem, sometimes trying to push things puts me a step back I think.

Meat, fuck you and your damned voodoo doll. Hopefully you lost it or at least forgot to take it on your road trip, because I was starting to believe in the bad Mojo!

07/18/07 - Deadlift (RE)

A) SLDL

E1) Decline Russian Twists
+35lbs

x8
x8

E2) Decline Situps
+35lbs
x10
x10
x10

Felt strong as hell today. A big change from yesterday. I was doing SLDL’s on a raised platform so I could get a few inches of deficit in there. I went for a 10lb PR for reps and smoked it, so went up another 50 and that was tough, but doable. Had a good pump in my back at that point. Loaded 455 and started to go for 3, but my back was toast at that point. Good time to do GM’s!

Finally making improvements on the Natural GHR’s. I may still look like a donkey doing these, but I don’t feel like one any longer.

Ahhh, I’m back in my happy place.

Respect dude. It’s always nice when you run into people you haven’t seen in a while and they give you the ā€œwhoa this guy got biggerā€ double-take.

ME Lower redo

A. Back Squat
Worked up to 365 x 1 (Yes hit that PR after missing it twice on Monday), then did a bunch of singles with 315… then did a bunch of sets and reps with 225.

B. Front Squat
did 3 x 3 with 225, but felt kinda weird on the hip flexor so stopped

C. Deadlift
Worked up to 3 x 3 with 405 then a bunch with 315

D. Lunges
Did 21 rest-paused reps with 75# db’s in each hand

Comments:
After my frustrating workout on Monday where I missed 365 two times, this was a welcome. I took off work and went down to spend the day with my family at the beach. Wound up staying at my cousins’ beach house that night. This morning my one cousin wanted to go to the gym to workout so I decided to go with him. He played D1 football as a defensive tackle and now is getting into bodybuilding so needless to say he is a large man. He said he was training legs so I just said "fuck it’ and decided to train with him.

Didn’t do exactly the same workout as him but pretty close. I did 345 and was going to call it quits at that but he basically made me go for 365. So either his encouragement or the hottie at the leg press next to me helped me blast that weight up and I hit it real smooth and solid.

After that I did a shitload of everything else, not really positive but it was a great workout. I guess sometimes getting out of your regular routine can do wonders for you. In any case, I’m very happy about this and pretty sure I will be able to hit 405 in the next couple of months.

Nice job, way to go back and get that PR.

Yeah, it’s always fun to change it up every once in a while. Does the body good.

I’m getting better on those GHRs myself. At the beginning, I couldn’t even go down. I’d start failing half-way down and plop down hard on the ground in front of the Seated Calf Raise machine. Now, I can go almost all the way to parallel before I fail.

Oh yeah, another thing I started doing was to put the ā€œboxā€ (aerobic steps) that I use for box squats in front of the Seated Calf Raise machine so I don’t have to fall all the way to the ground. This saves my hands from the rough impact a bit.

Hey 4est I just realized you wore a beater to your reunion, thats awesome!

I also found my friend has extra tickets for ozzfest tommarow so ME upper will be getting moved back to Friday.

Wednesday, 7/18/2007: RE Upper

A. Dumbbell Bench Press
70 x 15 (PR +1 rep)
70 x 6
70 x 6
70 x 4
70 x 4

B. Dumbbell Fly
40 x 4 x 8

C. Bent-Over Dumbbell Row
65 x 20
65 x 15
65 x 15

D1. Elbows Out Tricep Extension
35 x 4 x 8

D2. Chest-Supported Rear-Delt Raise
20 x 4 x 12

I finally got my 15th rep on the DB press. And, I took a little bit more rest for the subsequent sets, but still only managed to get 6, 6, 4, 4. I guess I still need to up my conditioning.

Just one last session tomorrow until I leave for Taiwan on Friday. I’d better get my work in tomorrow because I don’t know when my next session will be. :frowning:

Naw… it was just a regular tank top. Plus, that was the Sunday picnic. The ā€œreunionā€ was Friday night at the local country club and I almost looked respectable there.

Sweet news on Ozzfest… have fun and crack skulls.

7/18/07 ME Bench

A)ME Bench Press
Bar x who cares
95 x 3
135 x 3
185 x 3
225 x 1
250 x 1
275 x 1
300 x 1
315 x Miss (FUCK!!!)
295 x 1 x 2

Back to the heavy DBs and floor presses for ME. The only time I’ve done 315 (back in April)is after I had alternated those two exercises, and my leg drive wasn’t as good then as it is now. I feel like I’m stronger now, but it’s not showing.

B)Weighted Pullups=BW + 25 x 8, 8, 6

I was shooting for 3 sets of 8, having done 4 sets of 6 most recently. I’ll get it next week.

C)Flat DB Presses=100 x 10, 10, 6

D1)Inverted Row=BW x 12 x 3

D2)Hanging Pikes=8 x 3

Id really be happy to hit 6 plates if my arm can handle it Ill have to see how things feel One can have high hopes though and I believe my back has it in it. Id potentially like to be nearing 650 by years end

Nice work on the scale bro.
