DE Squat/DL Jan 16th 2006

This w/o was a BLAST!!!

JUMPING squats
Ass to grass long pause in the bottom then JUMP!! Vary stance
Bw x some
Bar x some
95 x 4
135 x 2
185 x 2 (8 sets) Then 2 x 2 no pause just to see the difference better explosion of course with the stretch reflex
Same load working on exploding more last time was slowing the last few sets

Keg Loading 48? platform SPEED (load and unload)
200lb keg 2 singles to get the feel then
3 sets 5 for time = 37 secs, 36.5 secs, 35.5 secs
SWEET these were nice. I need to BREATH so used to that holding the breath for one big lift I made the effort to breath better the last set after noticing I wasn?t think I will improve on these times in time.

Suitcase carry (one handed farmer)
100lbs x 100 ft 4 U turns (each hand)
150lbs x 100 ft 4 U turns (each hand)
200lbs x 60 ft 2 U turns (each hand)
Friggin 5 degrees and a sheet of ice outside so these were the length of the garage and turn round etc. left hand gave up at 60 feet I wasdoing it first so went same distance with right these were good really kill the core with just the load in one hand and walking.

Reverse hyper
3 x 12 -15 (light dynamic 2 sets bit slower last set still very light)

Pull though
3 x 12 - 15 (light dynamic work on firing the glute hip drive)

Gravity Boots hanging ab work and back stretching 8 minutes

This was a great workout nothing was real heavy, exception that 200 lb suitcase carry was kind of hellish but not horrid. I trimmed my calluses the other day and went a bit to damn far so friggin sore but no better way to get them back them use the hands LOL. This was a fun w/o

ME Upper

Warmup

Bench
barx8 x 2 sets
135x8
225x5
275x1
Shirt On
315x1
365x1 PR
355x1

365 was a PR, but I only barely missed it last time. I need to find someone who knows shirt benching because 25lbs isn’t worth the pain in the ass of putting and taking the damn thing off.

Rack lockouts ~5 ROM
135x5
225x5
315x5
365x3
445x1 PR
455x1 PR
405x3
315x13

These went really well. I’m pretty sure I sank a bit into the bench on the the 455 and I may have lost an inch or so.

Seated Row
165x20
165x16
165x13

Split Jerk
barx8
135x3
135x3
135x3

First time doing these since shoulder injury. Wasn’t any good before hand, but these went well form wise. No shoulder problems, but weight wasn’t very challenging.

Pullups
13, 4

good workout, Thursday will probably be DE light full body and Saturday or Sunday I’ll do openers, then take the rest of the week off except for mobility etc.

Notes: I changed my name today…to Matt "The Bench-Machine) McGorry in light of my success today. So apparently my CNS is shit right now and im probably slightly overtrained. I don’t doubt that this is a result of a few things.

#1- Usually I’ll do a high, med, very high, low scheme week by week in terms of volume…I haven’t really been following this

#2- On ME bench last week, I did too much work. Pushed too hard on the board work (apparent from my fucked up elbow last week)

#3- Not doing singles every week and staying below 90% I think fucked with my bench and head. I’m switching back to more of what I was doing before.

But there were 2 things that made my first time lifting at Excel in a few weeks enjoyable

#1- We got 2 new football players lifting with us. One who is an absolute beast (+3x BW squat at 200). Seem like intense guys who will be good to work with

#2- While at the grocery store with EC, the 150lb kid at the checkout counter looked at EC’s 8 dozen eggs and said “Trying to get big?” The response- “something like that”

But the golden nugget of the day came from that same kid at the register who let us in on his secret of superstar fitness- “I eat 3 eggs every mornings. It’s good for boxing” We thanked him for the tip and went on our way.

I’m going to deload pretty much the rest of this week.

Phil—how do you like those gravity boot things? were do you find them, always wanted to try them,

Got them at nybarbell when I ordered my safety squat bar a year and half ago or so. I love the damn things first time in them sounded like rice crispies back poping so damn much. They are great after heavy loading of the spine like squats DL and awesome for ab work, stretching also doing just odd crap and do lat pull ups as your upside down etc.

They are worth the minmal cost to me I try and use them once or twice a week. I limit it to 10-15 mins the old feet start to hurt a bit after that long from my heavy ass hanging from them and my heads beat red by then but they really seem to help recovery IMO

1/16/06 ME UB

A. Close Grip Bench Press:

Finished with a little tri pushdown and some suitcase deadlift holds

NOTE: Work out was ok, didnt really feel I was ‘going’ til I hit the DB rows. My benching was eh, OK… but I feel pain in my right shoulder, I wonder if its from benching in the rack with no handoff?

Next week I’ll back off a lil…

Stay strong ya’ll

NIce work bro what 32 lbs to go good start I agree on the calf raises get a MUCH better ROM and stretch as well really get the movement at ther arch can get to making the balls of my feet hurt but damn thyings work.

I hear you man. I used to run track and cc in high school. Talk about a difference, a 5k would kill me now.

MAN O’ MAN what a f&*King awesome day!!! Some of you may have read my earlier post this week about my not-so-great (at least not as great as it could have gone) max out on Squats. Well, today I got a little redemption with my max out on bench. Here’s how it went:

Light dynamic warm up

Bar x 5 (emphasis on explosiveness)
Tri. Press down 1x5x90#
Bar x 5 (emphasis on explosiveness)
Tri. Press down 1x5x70#

135 x 5
185 x 4
225 x 1
265 x 1
275 x 1
280 x 1
285 x 1 PR
290 x 00

My previous PR was 255lb which I tested prior to beginning this 8 wk program. It was unbelievable!!! After hitting 285lb, I had to resist the urge to go for 300LB. I will shoot for at least 315lb on my next max out.

I think it’s official–I now have the powerlifting bug!!! I wish someone would have introduced me to this stuff when I was younger. I plan on doing some light DE Squat/DL work on Friday and and DE Bench work on Sunday. Monday I will max out on Deadlift. I am pumped!!!
