Westside for Skinny Bastards?

Hi,
I recently joined the gym with the goal of getting into good enough shape (speed, size, strength) to play football at the D-1 Level in College. Please keep your comments about my goal to yourself. I have too much about how tough it is and I don’t know what I am getting into and college football is too hard. I didn’t come here to have a bunch of little bitches whine at me because they used to play football but couldn’t take the pain. I’m just tired of people who think that because they don’t want to do something or look a certain way nobody should. I’m going to stop before this turns into a rant.

My question is about sets and reps on the max effort days. When Joe Defranco says to work up to a max set of 3-5 reps I am not quite sure what that means. In the meantime I have been doing this.

Warmup 45x15
95x5
115x5
135x5
155x5
175x5
195x3

Is this what he means? Thanks for the help and for not getting on my back about my dream.

Max is just that…go up in weight until you reach the top you can lift for the reps assigned to that lift. However if you start with only the bar you will have a loooong time until you reach that point.

I remember that in his site he mentioned that if your goal is strenght you need the hypertrophy that the sets bring into your ME day. Sometihng around 7 total sets was his guess. You can check in the old Q&A or doing a simple search.

Your warm up looks good IMO

and to the other poster, lots if not most start with the bar.

I’m dong Westside for Skinny Bastards right now. I only do 4 sets total and my 4th set is the max effort set.
