Weird, but impressive

No, 85 is not small for me. It is also about where the weight goes on, and too often it goes around my stomach first.

Me too. And the love handles.

In my case, I assume it to be the fact it’s really difficult to get enough training intensity 2 days a week

Then train 8 days a week.

Day C+91

Alright, so the moment of truth. Or more accurately, the hour and a half of truth. Gym open. Not as much of a rush as I thought, but I guess June is traditionally a pretty quiet month. Fuck it, whatever. Point of the day was mostly just to test A) where am I really at with the OHP, and also B) is it in fact true that my little shit bar at home makes everything heavier. I guess that is really just one question.

  • Standing Barbell Shoulder Press (OHP)

    • 20 kg x 5 reps
    • 30 kg x 5 reps
    • 40 kg x 5 reps
    • 50 kg x 5 reps
    • 60 kg x 3 reps
    • 65 kg x 2 reps
    • 70 kg x 2 reps
    • 75 kg x 2 reps
    • 80 kg x 1 reps
    • 60 kg x 10 reps
  • Muscle-Up

    • 2 reps
    • 2 reps
    • 2 reps
    • 2 reps
    • 5 reps
    • 4 reps
    • 3 reps
    • 3 reps
    • 3 reps
    • 3 reps
    • 1 reps
  • Arnold Dumbbell Press

    • 16 kg x 10 reps
    • 20 kg x 10 reps

Right, so the takeaways from today:
-I was right, using real equipment basically automically added 5 kilo to the OHP.
-The rep at 80 was a bit shaky, but it went up and counted. Bit of an imbalance on my left side.
-That was just over my bodyweight, 102.5%. Hulk Smash.
-So fuck you bitches
-Not any of you specifically, just the general bitches

Also, while endurance is a problem, I fucking FLEW over the bar on those muscle ups. I was actually very surprised. Apparently doing a million pull-ups at home was not a bad plan.

It was sooooooooo nice to be in the gym. I forgot how much better I focus there.

Congrats! I’m not sure if I’ll ever do a strict press with body weight. It’s an admirable accomplishment.

Certainly not with that poor attitude, mister.

Relevant to the conversation in your thread, doing lifts as a % of bodyweight definitely gets harder as you get bigger, no argument there.

Very strong stuff mate.

On a different note: Do muscle ups have any point besides showing off? You might think I’m trolling but I generally wonder.

It’s a good question, actually. It probably starts off as a showing off move, but to get really good at them goes far beyond that. In order to do them strict and for reps takes a lot of speed and power in your arms and lats. It is probably the only movement that really does that.

It’s another one of those things that I put into the category of ā€œyou cannot do a bunch of really clean MUs and not also be a bit of a badassā€. And that makes them worth doing.

My 2c on muscle ups (as someone who’s never tried one) is that the explosive pull at the start is valuable. Dynamic pull ups on campus boards and the like were used pretty regularly in training for bouldering back when I was doing that kind of thing.

Plus, they look cool, especially with your shirt off.

To take it to a bit of a philosophical level…you look how you train. I want to look like someone who can do X, then I do X.

Good points, guys. I agree that it does look pretty badass.

So you want to look like Al Kavadlo then?

Not when you have blubber :fire:
