Okay so as I have stated before but I’ll say it again, I’ve been using HSS-100 for a while, with 2 and a half weeks left of it. Well anyways, I did my first max strength phase bicep/tricep day, and yesterday on monday they were pretty sore, but yesterday was my quad day, and it required moving a TON of those 45 lb plates around along with the 90 lb plates, and by the end of the workout i could hardly pick up a weight with my arms, as my bicep was so worn/strained out, and then when i got back to my room, all day i could hardly keep my arms propped up on the table. Not due to soreness, but they just felt like so ridiculously weak and strained. Then later that night my entire arm started to tingle a lot and whenever i would move my hand around, it would tingle too as if it was asleep. They’re still really strained today, and i keep trying to massage the bicep muscle to make it feel better, but it’s not doing much. I’ve got back day today with bent over rows and weighted pullups, and i don’t know what to do.
Have any of you experienced this before?
Do you feel discomfort in the bicep muscle belly or lower down at the tendon? Might be that yo haven?t streched your arms enough and then moving around heavy weight without proper warmup and light preworkout stretch. Sounds like that has made your nerves and tendons too short and set up for injury (hint: tingling or strange electric sensations comes from your nerves).
Doctors order: Do what you failed to do above. One good bicep stretch is holding on to something rigid (with the arm that you intend to strech) at hip/waist hight, then rotate the body until it stretches. To further stretch the nerves, wich you should do CAREFULLY, is to tilt your head and look down at your opposite armpit.
If you don?t know propper streching techniques and when and how to use it, look it up! Oh, and don?t take medical advice from chat forums…experiement and see what feels good, your body usually knows.
Well see I do stretch my arms after I use them. I never stretch before workouts, just a light lift to mimmick the pattern of lifting I am about to perform (i’ve heard stretching before lifting is bad and can make your muscles weaker, or something to that extent). Afterwards though, I always give my arms good stretches like you suggested.
Stretching for at least 20-30 sec do make you weaker since it takes the tension away from the muscle. But a light stretch below 10 sec will along with propper warmup only serve to prime the muscle and tendon for strains to come. For some activities though, like gymnastics and martial arts, you may need to do long stretching to be able to do the moves correctly to start with. That goes for all activities for people that isn?t conditioned/limber enough for the exercise. Asses your own status, consider the workload and make a wise descision. For instance, I wouldn?t dream of doing an ass to the floor squat right of the bat, it would breake my back!
Anyway, since you have a tingeling sensation I wonder if it hassn?t to do with strained nerves. How does it feel when you stretch the bi?s as previously described? The nerves goes from the brain all the way to the fingers, so you can add to the stretch by tilting your head and hands. Remember, you can have a well stretched bicep but still have a tight nerve! Oh, and nervestretching is supposedly best done after the musclestretching. Play around and see what happens.
I had problems myself with my left bi after straining it during the eccentric (lowering) part of of heave rope curls. It tightend up pretty good during later workouts, after one session it wanted to stay in neraly 90 degrees, but some persuassive stretching took care of that.
