I’m from Sweden and noticed that almost everyone who trains for competition in squat always uses a lifting shoes - with elevated heels, the same typ of shoes Olympic Lifters use.
I thought the squat was all about putting emphasize on posterior chain, why would people want to elivate their heels? Or am I missing something here? Everyone is literally using them.
I think it depends on if you are a narrow stance or wide stance squatter. Narrow stance the shoes seem to work well (I really like them) but with wide stance you don’t need your knees to go as far forward so the raised heel is not necessary.
Quadforce how do you squat? If you squat wide, go with some Chucks or Adidas Sambas or something like that. If you squat medium-stance or less, a shoe with a heel raise can be of much benefit.

x2
Since the heel is going to put more stress on your quads

I think your question was answered eh quadforce?
Not to hijack, but a serious follow up question for those who use shoes with a heel for squats:
Which shoe do you use and would you buy them again?

I have had a pair of Ironworks and two of the Ironworks II, a pair of red Doowins, and a pair of the previous generation Adistars. The current Adidas are not built very well. My former training partner has a pair of Ironworks III’s and the sole separated from the upper after about 5 months of training. Keep in mind all he was doing was oly lifting. The Doowins are Chinese garbage mine shit out after 6 months of training. The Ironwork IIs were probably the best out of all them.

I also have the ironworks 2. I bought them 2 years ago and they are still holdin up pretty well. I squat, powerclean and logpress with these shoes. Great shoe.
I have the Rogue Do Wins. They are holding up well. Its the only oly shoe I’ve tried, so I don’t have much relatively on the matter.
Rogue Fitness is supposed to be releasing a weightlifting shoe with a smaller heel, more appropriate for low bar squats and deadlifts than a full heeled oly shoe. I just emailed them to ask about the status.
I currently use Inzer’s white squat shoes, not the black “pillars of power”. I really like the stability that they provide laterally and how they set me back on my heels. I have used Safe’s SST’s and Crains squat shoes but I like my Inzers the best. I have an old pair of Olympic weightlifting shoes that I use from time to time. There were from the old Soviet Russia. They are cool; I actually traded a pair of knee wraps for them when I competed there in 1990.
I just bought my first pair of Vibram, Five-fingers, KSO’s, I will let you know how they feel. Others on this board have raved about them and I finally took the plunge.

I also have the Ironwork II shoes and I love them. Been using them for almost a year and they have hardly warn. I use them for squats, deadlifts, power cleans, and presses.
Guys, a big thanks for all the repleys! You have been very helpful!
I decided to get a pair of weightlifting shoes with low heel - probably Ironworks if my feets are not too wide for them. I want to start practising clean and jerks and front squats are staples of my leg routine, so I think it will be great addition.

Thanks a bunch everyone![/quote]
If you are buying them online and are unsure of the fit, go to an athletics store and try on a pair of Stan Smiths. The Ironworks fit exactly the same.
I have the Do-Win Rogues and they are the best thing I have done for my squat which is wide-stance, sit back, posterior chain emphasis. I used Chuck Taylor’s for awhile and I would sit back so far that my toes were raising. The heel gives me something to squat back into, improving stability, and the amount of weight I can squat. There are a lot of wide stance squatters that use a heel, Wade Hooper immediately comes to mind.
