Weighted Pull-Up Rut

I’ve added an extra 35 Ib to my pullups for about 1 month now. I haven’t been able to add any extra weight, should I just do negatives with 45? If I do negatives how many sets and reps do I need to do?

I’d say, it depends on how many reps you are doing with 35 lbs. I went on a mission to do bring up my pull-up numbers. While previously I was hammering away at weights I could do for a certain number of reps, like 3-5. When I went to nail is, for real, I’d in crease the weight and did 1 or two, if, but I tried it. In the end I broke my hand (don’t ask) which obviously derailed it. But before I got fucked up, I was pulling 80 lbs for 2. My goal was 100 lbs. for two.

What I am actually trying to say is look at your philosophy behind what your doing, and wae sure you are doing things and make sure you are doing things to progress.

Well, there is the possibility of pain, does it hurt, or are you just not getting stronger?

BTW, 35 lbs. ain’t bad. I just watch a Mariusz Pudzianowsji do only 9 BW pull ups before he failed and that mother fucker is strong…

I’ve been doing about 4x5-7 and it doesn’t hurt at all.

Try upping the number of reps you are getting for a few weeks while sticking with 35 lbs, then when you get to say…14-16 reps with 35 lbs, you ought to be able to chin 45 lbs for at least a couple of reps

Why don’t you try a drop set do your 4x5 weighted after the set drop the belt jump back on the bar as quick as possible and do another 5 so it will be 4x10 (5 weighted/5 BW).

Let us know how it goes its gonna be sweet to eventually put that 45 plate on that belt

I got up to 110 lbs by doing 5 second eccentrics and fast concentric. This was on parallel grip. I think parallel grip is best for straight lat/upper back strength. Once you start supinated or pronated, there are other limiting factors. I wide grip pronated takes a lot of shoulder work. Even at 110 on parrallel, I don’t think I could do half that pronated.

Another thing that might help you is a spotter. Usually the fastest way to increase any lift is getting an extra rep with some help.

Good, try ONE with 45 lbs. If that’s easy, try 55 lbs…etc. The only way to list heavier is to lift heavier. Fuck reps…lift heavy…, with what you have left, lift reps.

He said he cant do any with any more weight than 35 lbs. Thats why I told him to work on upping his reps with 35 lbs and then bringing the reps down and increasing the weight.

He can do 5 to 7 reps…it’s time to move up.
