I use straps exclusively unless I’m doing singles.[/quote]
Whatever works for you. I’ve never used them for deadlifts, even high reps, but that’s me. I do think nothing develops your grip more than high rep deadlifts without straps. but if you have naturally strong hands and no grip issues, it might help get a few more reps.
Nothing is 100% one way, just don’t lie to yourself and cover up a weakness.

His deadlift doesn’t suck for a sixteen year old kid. He’s venting and frustrated because he’s putting more effort into this than many of his teammates. the kid cares.
He can use a little dose of lighten up Francis, but his heart is in the right place.

I wish this were true. They bounce it on every rep and insist on using straps as well.

I don’t mean to derail the thread but I get some flack for using straps on deadlifts. Unless you are deadlifting with an over/overgrip, straps really don’t make it easier. An over/undergrip works a lot like straps because it prevents the bar from rolling. By definition, even an over/undergrip is cheating.

Now this is one of the dumbest things I’ve read on this forum. And that is saying a lot.
Cheating is breaking a rule. Not using a mixed grip.

Okay, well was your total 985 at 15 years old? I’m guessing not because mine was last year. Did you put on 25 lbs in 7 months and become a starting linebacker? I’m 5’7" and 170 lbs. I pull 365. If you’d like to tell me that over a 2x bodyweight pull is nothing special for a kid my size then be my guest, but until then, you’re an ignorant fucking child who has no respect for hardwork.

You’ve worked hard snd should be proud . But it’s not great lifting , I’d call it good lifting .
And your lifting will get even better if you stay with it. Don’t let clowns like this get you down.

A 2x bodyweight pull is nothing special - particularly for someone your size. Your lifts are decent, and if you keep with it you could be pretty good but don’t get ahead of yourself.
Tom, you tried. I think that this is why we get frustrated. O’Boile is a really good lifter that gives his opinions from the heart. This guy is probably the most supportive, and without ego lifter I have ever met.
I really like the input from the lifters that frequent this site. Iam not the smartest, or most cerebrial, but if I can get 5kg on anyones lift I am happy.
