Weight Gain Shakes Good for U?

is PVL’s monster maxx unhealth for me

Amounts per serving: which is 4 scoops

Energy 1000kcal
Protein 52g
Carbs 172g
Fat 8g
Saturated Fat 0g
188 potassium
400 sodium

will this cause health problems im also thinking of doing beast building program

i personally think that weight gainer shakes are shitty only because theres so much cals…sugar… and so much marcro nutrients your body cant all digest this at once.but thats my view other people will tell u different

i would say just up your meals if your looking for additional calories and just eat clean but very often . Every 2-3 hrs

The only 2 possible uses for a ‘weight gainer’ are

  1. Convenience - when you simply don’t have time a eat a real meal but need some calories

  2. When your stomach/digestive system isn’t accustomed to eating real food every 3 hours

Also, keep in mind that most weight gainers are overloaded with short carbs and won’t keep you blood sugar level high for very long.

A real meal is under any circumstances preferable to a weight gainer shake.

Under what circumstances are you saying that it would be unhealthy for you?

That seems fairly close to the total calories and marco breakdown I try to consume pre, during and post workout.

Based on the marco breakdown the OP listed and knowing what I do about weight gainers (the carbs come from simple sugar) there shouldn’t be any issue with digestion. There may be a problem with absorption, but simple sugars are almost completed absorbable in their existent state.

Simple sugars boost blood sugar so dramatically because they require very little digestion.

I agree with you that one is better off eating good quality whole food more frequenty than relying on manufactured food.

I would just buy my own quality protein powder and add my own carb source like waxy maize starch (WMS). I think Charles Poliquin once described weight gain powders as usually having “swept off the floor protein”.

I have cut back dramatically on supplements lately. I am trying to spend more of my money on food instead of pills and powders. All I take now is creatine monohydrate and protein powder-whey or casein, depending on the time of day.

In my experience when I was about 16 or 17 maybe I was a very high level soccer player (“pro-bound”), and I weighed in at about 135, so at that time I started weight training and I started taking a weight gainer. I think from what I know now that all that shit thats in those weight gainers, it didn’t matter being as I trained 5 days a week, often with multiple sessions averaging 4-5 hours a day cumulatively.

Well anyway I gained roughly 50 pounds of what I assume to have been lean mass (didn’t understand calipers or body fat% at the time). So I never had it done.

But I could still run a 4.2 40 and also Dunk at 5’8. Anyway my point was that from living the lifestyle I was and having such a hyperactive metabolism, I was able to take a weight gainer with out any negative side effects (to my knowing).
