I am really getting confused at this moment. I’ve started my third week on fat fast. Today is day 16 for me on fat fast. I started fat fast at 237lbs and got down to 226lbs by week one. I started at around 17% BF. Well after readin the cheater’s diet article and wanting to keep my sanity I have thrown in some cheat meals. I am taking in 1500 cals a day in flax oil and protein powder. Well this past friday i splurged on home made italian and Burger King. Well this morning on Sunday I am up to 230lbs. Could it be all that food in my system? Also another point is I started taking 4-AD at the start of week two. All my lifts have gone up now. I have only been serious with weights since May. So I am now torn as is all that junk food hanging around in my colon or could it be I am getting newbie gains from the 4-AD? Thanks for the insight
I am no expert, AT ALL. But I have noticed that when I have been depleted for a period of time, and then overfeed. . . my weight shoots up about 8-10 lbs the next morning. I take some massive shits throughout the next day, and make damn sure to get back on my training regimin, and the weight slides off over the next few days.
It’s probably just water retention caused by all the carbs and sodium in the cheat meal. Just drink a ton of water, take a multi, and it’ll work it’s way out. Also, don’t be so concerned about day to day weight gain or loss…dieting can become very very frusterating this way.
You put water back on. Continue with the fat fast. As you deplete through the week with your workouts and no carbs you will immediately lose that extra weight and start shrinking again.
Regarding the weightgain, my bet is water weight from increased carbs from the cheatmeal. It’s not uncommon. Check to see if mid to late next week your weight is still up there (assuming you maintain your fatloss diet).
water and glycogen from the increased carb intake.
Take few deep breaths and calm yourself. Ahh…there. Food hangig around your colon, kinda a gross thought. When you say “Italian” that almost indefinitley means complex carbs, you probably drank super size soda while at B.K. you bastard! (just kidding I’m willing to bet you probably took in a shitload more carbs than you had taken in all week while you where training and shedding alot of water weight/ glycogen. You most likely lost only 1-2 lbs of fat (of the the 11 total) in that first week. Anyway don’t flip out or worst of all think things aren’t working. Here’s few things to remember to think about when you’re leanning out, the scale is not the best indicator of progress bdyft% is and I’m also a big fan of the mirror (since I’m a sexy mofo) As for the 4-AD that’s definitely a factor to consider. I’d say it’s very reasonable to gain up to 2 lbs of muscle, especially for a neophyte like yourself within the first week. Like I said bro, keep at it, watch the cheat days, and as any bodybuilder will tell you the mirror is your friend. Good luck:)
A few things:
First, it’s typical for someone in a depleted state to put on 10+ lbs of water/glycogen after an overfeed. Second, scale weight is a poor indicator of progress; track your girth measurements and body fat percentage. If you want to know if you are losing fat, check your skinfolds. If you want to know if you are gaining/losing mass, check your girth measurements. If they go up, you are putting on size; if they go down, you are losing mass. But even if you do this there can be potential problems. Subcutaneous water retention is at it’s peak after an overfeed, so measuring your bodyfat the day after the overfeed isn’t the best idea. Also, taking your girth measurements in a depleted state aint that smart either, as your results will be skewed. Take a look at the Cheater’s Diet EDT thread for a good way to track progress when periodically overfeeding and dieting.
Lastly, there have been some changes to the CD program in that cheat meals dont seem to work that well compared w/ overfeeding or cheating sessions of 8+ hours in length. Do a search on “overfeeding” and you’ll find some of my newer recommendations.
Take care,
Joel
Oh yes, most all of us have that same fun deal post refeed day…
Yet another reason watching only the scale really isn’t the greatest of things. I cant resist weighing myself daily, but I can pretty much predict what it’s going to do now. Down down down during the low carb days, and then balloon about 1/2 the way back up after refeed, then down down down again…
Just like joel said, pay attention to measurements in skinfolds and tape. And dont bother putting any thought into the post 1-2 days measurements after a day long refeed.
People are still doing this diet?
hahahahhahhaha. this is so funny. i just read this for the first time. One time when i was really depleted i made a quest to see how much weight i could gain while i was at work. When i got to work i weighed 219. When i left i weighed 232. Eight hours later. haha. food in the colon. haha.
