I smoke weed and i wondered if there was any down side to smokeing and working out… i never smoke before or during a workout and didnt know if this was godd bad or in between

I’ll put it like this… last time I smoked weed, I couldn’t find my feet. Let’s talk about coordination now. It’s pretty small when you’re high. Try to remember, if you can, how distracted you are when you’re high. Now, imagine you’re holding some heavy weight in your hand, over your head or whatever, and you get distracted. Bad news? Definitely. You gotta chose something. Either the weed, or weights. Not both. You’ll end up fucked up for sure eventually.

I know it is not good for you. But how bad for you is it???

I hear; “it’s not really that bad for you.”

“It’ll kill you.”

“It’s only bad if you do it a lot.” Whatever “a lot” is.

Has anyone seen any long term studies on weed and long term health; weed and how it effects body composition; weed and how it may (or may not) effect strength/power/athletic performance etc.?

I think 8-12 weeks of bulking w/ marijuana would be followed up nicely w/ smoking cigs. during a cutting phase.

IMO its not that big a deal every now and again - as long as your not a stoner at it all the time.

This has been posted SOOOO many fucking times before! So I’ll be direct and to the point.

  1. There is no proof that I or anyone else has shown here or on any of the other boards that I’ve seen this topic posted that show real evidence that weed lowers test levels or raises estrogen.

  2. There are in fact cell in your body that look identical to THC. That in mind some argue that it is nowhere near as foreign a substance/damaging (especially in terms of muscle growth) as ALCHOHOL).

  3. Smoke is the byproduct of FIRE. That said it will burn your lungs if you breath it in and certain types of smoke contain nasty chemicals that can cause all sorts of respiratory problems, ie lung cancer.

  4. Certain drugs effect certain people differently than others. For example, I can smoke a fat-ass-muthafuckin blunt of haze and walk in the gym thinking I’m a demon warlord ready to rape, pillage, and burn all those who doubt me. In other words, I have a very intense workout. On the other hand someone might take a single puff of a joint and find themselves singing along to the latest Britney Spears song that they have blasting over the gym pa ( in other words they are turned into a braindead fucktard).

In summation, is smoking weed healthy? No, it’s not. Will it have any effect on your bodybuilding progress? Depends on you. BTW, granted this board has a generally low opinion of pro BB’s. BUUT, I know quite a few of them smoke weed. FUCK, the governor of CA smoked weed on video while talking about pussy. Now that’s hardcore. LMFAO!

The very fact that it lowers testosterone levels should be enough for any lifter to stay away from it.

I remember seeing Arnold smoking a joint after a workout in an old video. Other than the fact that it lowers T levels, I doubt it will affect your training that much. I have known many bodybuilders and football players who smoked and were very strong.

That’s exactly what I was thinking…LOL. Does the kid take a hit inbetween sets or something? Most people want a stimulate before a workout(caffiene) not something that is gonna make you spaced out.

Dude, obviously the weed has already f-ed you up so quit smoking and lift some damn weights.

I agree with Wideguy completely. Just keep the rest, supplementation and nutrition in check and you should be fine.

Don’t have it in front of me but I’ve seen only one study demonstrating weeds negative actions on the body that a bodybuilder would worry about; a particular compound in weed slightly increased subjects estrogen levels, thats it! So pop some M and spark it up, brah!

The only thing I have against weed is that it destroys work ethic and intelligence in some people. I had a few friends who were great athletes, big, strong and fast. In H.S. and college they started using weed heavily, like 3-4 times a week, they totally changed as people. They didn’t want to train, or go running or even eat well. All they wanted to do was sit around, smoke weed, eat junk food and play video games. What a terrible life. One kid, passed like 6 AP exams, calculus, chem and the like, was going to go to med school. He could have played pro baseball. Now, he works construction, total loser, he could have been something. Everytime I talk to him, he talks about how weed has opened a “door of consciousness” in his mind, how he is now capable of such deeper thought. I say bullshit, it has closed the door to rational thought. I doubt he could sit down and do a simple algebraic equation now, it has literally destroyed him. Just look at Ricky Williams, now that he has dedicated his life to drugs, I doubt he could come back and play at the same level. Anybody who saw that 60 MINS interview, tell me he is someone you would want playing for your football team. He is an almost completely different person, I feel sorry for his family. Moderate to heavy weed use is a dangerous vice for those who have an addictive personality.

I don’t think you can blame weed for turning folks into brainless zombies. If you want to party, play video games and live with a total lack of drive and discipline, it won’t take weed to do it.

Anyway, reading a bit more carefully I think the original poster was stating that he never used weed around his workouts. Heck, I don’t drink alcohol around my workouts, but I do drink from time to time. Heh, I do think the poster tokes up before posting to the forum though!

We need to relax about the concept of drugs and how they all kill you, like ephedra. What a crock of shit. Some substances, drugs or not, are dangerous and some aren’t. It isn’t dangerous merely because the authorities deem it a controlled substance.

Just don’t get addicted to it. If it interferes with your life in some way, lack of drive or discipline, financial drain, bad eating habits, drop it like a stone. That goes for booze too.
