Hi,
I can power snatch 85kg, but I can squat snatch only 70-75kg. I think that problem is that I have only 90kg overhead squat, so its impossible for me to catch something like 85kg in a squat position… so I should probably improve my OHS.
OHS could be divided into 3 points - leg strength, core strength and upper back strength, right?
I would say, leg strenth isnt problem here - I have 145kg ATG back squat and I dont feel tired legs during OHS. I think that even the core isnt the weak link. Id say the main problem is that I cant hold the bar overhead firmly… With higher weights I have problem to not to drop it on my neck… Im not sure which muscles work here and how should I train them conveniently… ?
You don’t need a big OHS to Sn properly. You just need enough flexibility to Sn properly and a decent enough squat.
You can PS more as you don’t Sn properly that often and have much less experience. Do more bar work, stretching and you will get comfy Sn properly.

truth. when I was still lifting i had a 122kg snatch an never did anything more then 110kg for an overhead squat and that was just a one time thing for fun as they were never in my program
flexibility isnt my problem IMO, but from now I will stop doing power snatches and start doing only squat snatches. I will focus more on drop snatches and stretching…If I feel more comfortably during squat snatch I will upload some video
Less power snatch more snatch. OHS is virtually pointless IMO. I know guys who’ve snatched 160+ and never done them. Just lots of back and/or front squats and maybe some snatch balance and block work…

I tend to agree. And where do you live/train that you get to meet such monsters? A 160 snatch is nothing to sneeze at.

I used to be on the british squad, we had a few guys doing between 150-180, none of whom did OHS[/quote]
Side note… I love the regular commentator for Eurosport in weightlifting (Goldstrom?) but at the olympics, the girl who worked with him was just unbearable… probably a former great lifter but she did get on my nerves Might just be residual french canadian vs. British tension!
Elbows out/pronated for snatch and clean, if you’re deadlifting for olympic lifting (!?) than same otherwise whatever works/feels natural (or orthodox)

I think it was Colin Bryce and Non Evans initially, then Colin and Michaela Breeze. With respect Non is not very knowledgeable whereas Michaela is extremely so and has international medals etc…
I was cheering my old training partner Delroy McQueen on when he annihilated Akos Sandor so I understand the tension

I actually killed Akos in a drinking contest after the 2000 nationals… but that was the old me with a belly and hair. So I don’t have any resentment because of that
It’s not so much the lack of knowledge that annoyed me but rather just being too “enthusiastic” with the tone of the comments, it sounded like a caricature after a while.

I reckon that was probably Non, you should see the comments on sugden barbell, harsh doesn’t come close!
I think Colin did alright considering he was dropped in at the deep end but it was a shame David Morgan wasn’t around
