Weak beginner Bench press help

I definitely make use of this approach with widomakers. Do them at the end. I get my assistance work done between main and supplemental work

Just sit down and watch tv.

But every commercial break, do 20 push ups. Do like 2 or 300 per night.

And do lots of dips. The more, the better.

Thats what I did, and I haven benched less than 120 lbs. since I was 12 years old. :man_shrugging:t2:

I agree completely with this. That doesn’t make 531 “wrong” for a beginner, but the odds you’ll “get it” that early in your training career are low (in my opinion).

The counterpoint is: think how far ahead you’ll be if you start this way early! I don’t think we get to skip that journey, though.

Now, if we zoom out to the higher-order principles (progress on a few movements, keep it straightforward, do your conditioning), I think we’re all aligned. How we do that is the subject of all our best conversations.

Dips will improve your bench. It will also improve your overall upper physique. Mike Mentzer referred to dips as the upper body squat. The quoted advice is good.
