man, i wish i had your ability to get in and get it done even when life goes sideways on you. great work.

John, when life goes to shit, which it does regularly, I count on a few things: the family I’ve made, the friends I have established, lifting, whiskey, and music like this:

highly doubt I will ever do them right, but will give them a whirl

my cardio area at home is now a construction/destruction zone, and couldn’t bear driving to the gym just for cardio, so today:

3 mile brisk walk

felt ghey about it then remembered that is how Dorian Yates did it, then felt maybe a little gheyer

also, really have to rethink meals that consist of low carb, high fiber tortillas, and lots of hot peppers. doesn’t work out so well in the end…

I love my chillies too, but not the “Ring Sting” the next day.

Nowt wrong with a nice walk–just be careful what you wipe with out there in the woods !!

pulling:

hands/grip and back were friend from shoveling up flooring over the weekend, so I lowered my expectations a little bit.

deficit DL from 4 inches, about an inch more that I am used to: 135 x 5, 225 x 5, 315 x 3, 405 x 2, 495 x 2, 585 x 2, still some in tank

rack pull from 2 inches beneath knee worked up to 675 x 3

leg press, on steep rickety old machine 7 pl per side x 35

walking lunges 2 x 10

leg curls 3 x 15
ab wheel 3 x 10

prowler 90lb x 40yrd x 6

moved fast, had to go see mom

Edit: grip and back were fried, not friend…

25 minutes elliptical
20 stepper

average heart rate 130. it is requiring me to work harder to get heart rate up now, i.e. need to either up rpm, tension, etc.

Strong ‘brisk’ walking.

Nice work on the deficit, 4" is a ways down there!

Damn 585 from a defecit, holy moly.

Do you take your pooches with you on the ghey walk?

Thanks guys. Definitely had more in the tank there, but as noted back was drum tight from ripping up floor over the weekend. Will shoot to double something around 630 next time around.

Matty, I wish I could. My American Bulldog can make it at best 2 miles now, the St. Bernard not much more than 3 blocks. Gonna try to build the Bully back up though.

Speaking of ripping up floor, the basement is brewing to be quite the labor instensive project over the next few months. Trenching, jack hammering, cement work, dryway, etc… This on top of my 50hr a week job, job hunting, taking care of mom’s situation (selling her house, getting her into an assisted situation), kids, wife, and yes training. Still have it on the books to do October 29th meet, however my ‘major event’ for my current work project (infrastructure cutover) might happen that weekend, in which case I might not be competing.

Figure all the extra physical labor will make the training/recovering issue interesting, to say the least. Will still figure out a way to get stronger.

please don’t tell me that those deficit pulls are raw.

i said don’t tell me!!!

I also won’t tell you that it wasn’t even with a DL bar.

You can always come to Dubuque in November. There will also be strongman and arm wrestling going on as well. Pretty sure Jakked will be there from Chicago. Not sure about Franz or ZenZen.

Good luck on the basement. I lost a pretty decent home gym to a flood several years back. Had two 1/2hp sumps in the basement at the time. They couldn’t keep up. Seems the water table has been getting higher each year.

your chopping chanels into the basement floor-
for a pump and for drainage?

or just using a jackhammer to break up the debris?
