Nephorm, try sleeping with a damp top sheet over you. Much, much cooler.
I noticed that when I quit drinking coffee, I lost that morning lethargy. After about two weeks of no caffeine I really noticed I was waking up with lots more energy and waking up easier, often before the alarm even went off.
ok waking up refreshed all depends on what time i go to bed. if i’m an idiot and stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning and then wake up at 8, i’ll wake up farely easy but by the afternoon hits and i get no calls and have notta to do i almost doze off. the only times that its hard for me to wake up is on weekends. i usually sleep till atleast 11. another thing that i have found is that if i don’t get all the sleep that i need, i use that trusty snooze button more then once before i finally get my but out of bed. i remember when i was younger i could stay up as late as i want and get up exactly at the same time every morning no matter what. it was like i had a alarm clock in my head cause i could be sound a sleep and right when it hit 6am i would just rise. kinda wierd but i wish i had that now. awww i miss the good old days!
Doesn’t work for everyone, but taking ZMA at night usually gives me a great night’s sleep and helps me to wake up in the morning feeling a lot more refreshed.
hey melissa, you could always wake him up by sucking him off or just get on top of him and just start your self and he will rise hahaha pun intended.
when i was with my ex she sometimes would wake me up by eather sucking me or even riding me. i loved that cause that was just such a great suprise waking up to that! we did that to each other. shit no matter what sleep i got if she was up and ready to go, she could wake me up and i wouldn’t have any problem with it. of cource i’m still young that probubly won’t work if i get a physical job or have a kid. so you could still have dirty sex its the best way to wake up!
I get migraines, and I’ve noticed that sticking to a pretty tight sleep schedule helps a lot. So does, get this, undersleeping. I have fewer headaches sleeping 6-1/2 to 7 hours than I do if I try to sleep 8+. I usually don’t even have to use an alarm. The upshot is that I’m fairly groggy every morning, but that goes away faster than a headache would.
If you always feel like crap in the mornings, you could have other problems like anemia or sleep apnea. Hypoglycemia, or even just being really sensitive to small changes in your blood sugar without it really being low, can make you feel exhausted or even sick in the mornings. Might be worth seeing a doctor just to be sure.
When I was younger, I was always kinda groggy upon waking up. Now in my thirties I find I wake up every morning at 7:30 feeling pretty much wide awake. I notice the biggest difference when I change my diet. If I’m eating a higher carb diet(above 200g), I wake up in a fog. If I stay on a lower carb diet I don’t have that problem. When I’m eating higher carbs I need an afternoon nap too, but find no need for one on lower carbs.
Maybe it’s something other than sleep that’s causing your migraines. What’s your diet like? Do you take any medicine at all? What about “drugs” like caffeine, ephedra, etc? I’m hoping you drink plenty of water, too.
Man you people who sleep in need some little kids around…that would sure cure you of that. lolol
I agree on not needing an alarm clock. Only time I really need one is if i’m getting up at a drastically different time than normal. Say if I want to go fishing or hunting in early morning and it’s several hours away. I just cant wake up naturally at 4am, not with a midnight bedtime.
7am is no problem though.
I’ve had to tell any roomates that I’ve had that if I growl at them in the morning, I’m not really mad at them!
I’ve determined that I’m wasting a lot of my life in the time between walking up and getting up. Today, I set my alarm for 7 hours’ sleep. I had every intention of going to the gym and cycling. I woke up, hit the bathroom, drank some water, turned on the radio, and laid back down. Two hours later, I finally rolled out of bed. I only had time ot go to the gym.
Cupcake, should that be my line at the bars? “I’m having trouble waking up in the morning and it was suggested to me that I have dirty sex first thing in the morning. Would you be able to help me out?”
I have other problems, like getting to sleep at night. Melatonin and ZMA help a little bit. I don’t get a deep sleep, I wake up pretty easily. No alarm clcok? I’d probally sleep for 10+ hours if something didn’t wake me up!
I’ve had this problem for many, many years, and just learned to accept that there’s nothing I could do about it. On my current job, I work 1 week 1st, then 1 week 2nd shift, so that doesn’t help much either!
I used to get up at 4am and hit the gym before work - I was pretty much always bright eyed and bushy-tailed due to looking forward to it (despite a standard midnight bedtime). My energy through out the day was great, until around 2pm when I’d crash (Red Bull is your friend!). Keeping my diet on the lower carb side (90-110g) helps tremendously also.
Since I’ve not been working of late, I wake up naturally between 7-7:30am and feel fairly hum-drum. I don’t really feel energetic until around 10am when I go to the gym. I think having something to look forward to makes a huge difference.
Oh, incidentally, the BEST sleep and the MOST refreshed I ever am is after a night of hard drinking. Pretty odd, I know. But if I partake in more than my fair share and get to bed around 4am, I’ll wake up super energized and cheery at 6:30am. I’m all hyper and feelin’ awesome for about 4 hours but then I crash and burn for the next 24-36 hours. That crash-and-burn phase is the main reason I don’t drink much anymore. But for whatever reason the waking up part is fabulous!
There are a couple things I might suggest to help.
One is that white noise is supposed to help induce sleep, but it just can’t be too loud. Maybe a quiet fan or having the radio tuned between stations might work. It might be worth a try, although if it’s too loud, you could wake up very often.
The second thing is something that worked well for me. I have a soft pillow that I like to mold to the shape of my head, but it always gets deformed during the night. So I took a towel and rolled it up and put it under the pillow where my neck rests. It’s reduced neck stiffness AND I’ve slept much better ever since trying this.
I think having some protein and fat before bed is a good idea, although not too much protein, as it might disrupt sleep. This might help you sleep since your body will be fed and not want food. Maybe some water, too, if you can handle it.
I’m defnitely a morning person. I usually wake with the sun, and feel energentic and happy. My husband says it’s insane for anyone to be so damned happy in the morning.
My husband and kids are grumpy and awful for the first 30 minutes or so after waking. I enjoy my two to three hours of time in the morning before the rest are awake, and then take a run or walk the dogs until they are decent enough to approach.
Not to hijack the thread, but I pretty much live in migraine central so I’ve been through that process of discovering triggers. Both my teenage sons have inherited (from me) an unfortunate tendency to get migraines. All three of us seem to have somewhat different triggers, but consistent (or at least as consistent as you can get teenage boys to be) schedules help all around – that includes not just sleeping but frequency/timing/composition of meals, too. Since migraines have been linked to changes in hormone levels, the articles here (in T-mag) about manipulating eating patterns to affect hormones make a lot of sense to me.
The additional bummer for them is that they both get lingering tension headaches following big migraines. One of them has missed a couple of years of school over it. (Long story)

Someone started a “falling asleep” thread on the Training/Nutrition forum. It’s interesting that someone suggested a computer program that emits a certain frequency that’s supossed to put you to sleep. I’ll have to try that.
What I need to figure out is how to get up, after I do manage to get a full night’s sleep. I’ll try the chugging water trick tomarrow.
So, it seems that some of you do feel refreshed when you get up. You guys are real lucky!
CupCake: Holy brainfart, Batman! You’re right! Guess I’m playing Captain Oblivious today. Dirty Sex was on the table… Um… Can I just say “Yes, please”?
See? This is what I mean about feeling just “ish” until I head to the gym.
Can you believe I also passed up the opportunity to top Diesel’s post? 'Cause I gots it beat. I’m the one causing that ruckus! Have the letter from my landlord to prove it.
Dear Tenant:
We have recieved several noise complaints from surrounding buildings in regards to your activities. Please bear in mind this is a family community and keep your intimate noises to acceptable levels between the hours of 12am and 2pm. Thank you for your cooperation.
Intimate noises. he he heeee
And on to Dirty Sex. Well, Dirty Morning Sex anyway. I’m in the very fortunate position of being blessed with this hot commodity on a near daily basis. And the best part? I don’t have to do a damn thing. I just get rolled over, ass propped in the air, WHAM!.. BAM!.. show the O-face, and get to go back to sleep. Well, ok. There’s a few more “whams and bams” than that, but you get the idea.
