Waking up, feeling refreshed?

I’ve heard of this before. Is this just a myth? Do any of you feel rested and refreshed after sleeping, and ready to start the day?

I am completely lethargic when I wake up, regardless of the number of hours of sleep I get. I can lie in bed in a daze for hours after I wake up. The only thing that really gets me going is chemical help (caffeine). I used to take Ripped Fuel, just to help me get up!

So, how do you feel in the morning?

Depends on how I get waken… Lately it’s been decent since I’m getting about 7 hollow hours of sleep (baby interrupted). And then the baby wakes me up in morning, around 6:30-7:30am.

I actually feel the worst if I way oversleep. Like say in a fantasy night of no kids waking up during night and I sleep in till 10am or something. That is when I just feel lethargic. Course that only happens if I go to bed at 4am, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I’ve always been a morning person, never used caffeine or anything else to wake up in morning.

Have Morning Sex.

DIRTY Morning Sex.

This works even better if you are not alone.

“One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I’ll never know”

~ Groucho Marx

Mornings were invented by the devil.
I am sooo not a morning person!! I get up decently early just because of work and so on…but left to myself, I’d wake up around ten and stay up till two.
Damn real life getting in the way of my preferred schedule!!

Jeff - I know what you mean. When my alarm goes off, I just want to stay in bed for hours. If I do, I can’t sleep though, I kinda just lay there and stare at my white ceiling and pet my dog. Since I’ve moved to St. Louis, I’ve gotten maybe a week’s worth of good night sleep. 7 days. That’s it. It really sucks with training and all. Sometimes, I just take an extra, unscheduled day off for recuperation because I suck at sleeping.

Yes in the morning I open up my coffin and slowly climb out. Rrrrrhhh. A few things…your circadian rythme can be effected if you go to bed at all different times. I know myself if I change the time that I goto sleep at(and wake at) that is the worst thing I can do. Even worse than less sleep. Also I think it’s harder to get up when your going to work.

If I was going to do something fun then yeah I can get up. Usually.

Hydration. If I get dehydrated I feel tired. Also if I don’t get enough sleep I feel dehydrated. Not sure why the second one is true. So drink alot of water it may help. Have a bottle of water by your bed so you can take a sip in the morning should help. Let me know how this works out Jeff. Ciao.

I feel pretty refreshed after morning sex and coffee in bed. By the second cup I’m either really refreshed and ready to go…or I really have to go pee so I have to get up anyway.

I wake up feeling great and shoot out of bed and look forward to going to work for the rest of the day!!

CUPCAKE: Small question regarding morning sex:

Don`t you get all doo-doo (dozy) for 4-6 hours after that because of the endorphin rush after the orgasm?

(You know, the type of calm that even 4 coffees can`t take you out of?)

Good suggestion, but for guys like me, not on days when I work.

Lucky you if you can function without an after effect. Guess nature likes difference.

I rarely feel really tired in the morning and get get right out of bed. It’s nice to get to work at 5:15 am and miss all the morning traffic! The only problem I have is that I tend to get sleepy in the afternoon if I’m not doing anything.

I’d make suggestions of why I think some things might be an issue, but last time I did that, I got in trouble here.

“Oh yeah Cupcake, give it to me. Baahhh.”

Seriously, it is said by the experts that if you need an alarm to wake up then you are not getting enough sleep. People are supposed to go to bed, and get up at the same time every day. No sleeping in on the weekend, and no staying up late either.

Also there are a lot of things that can interfere with your sleep. If you snore, you might not be resting as well as you could, especially if you have sleep apnea. (I am convinced I have a minor form of this, but less since I have lost weight. I still snore like a chain saw though.)

Also covering your windows so the room is pitch black is very helpful. Also trying to have the lights on, and making it bright after waking up helps also.

Experts keep talking about a “sleep debt” where if you are short on sleep, your body wants to catch up, and will if it gets the chance. You could just need to spend some time trying to get over your sleep debt. I know I feel better, wake up easier, and have more energy when I am getting enough sleep.

I think a good book (I haven’t read it,) is Power Sleep. I have heard it is good, but have not read it yet.

Baahhh!

Normally, I’m a bit lethargic in the morning. However, last night I went to bed at like 7:30PM and woke up this morning at 5:30AM as refreshed as refreshed gets.

Also to expand on the water comment. When you wake up in the morning, have a 500mL bottle of water by your bed, right as you wake up, chug the whole thing down. That’ll definitely get your heart going and get you outta bed.

Or, after you take your morning piss just walk around the house for a while. Whatever you do after your morning piss, don’t get back in bed.

Here’s my question: I’m having major difficulties sleeping here because it’s incredibly hot and I live on the fifth floor (sans air conditioning). Consequently, I wake up at least every hour or so… I’m sick now, as a result. Any suggestions for getting a good night’s sleep in adverse conditions? Other than supplements, because I can’t get any decent supps here.

neph, what about a fan? Perhaps that might help stir the air a little, if it’s strictly just the heat that’s keeping you up.

Jeff, I never feel refreshed anymore. I get 7-7.5 hours a night, generally pretty solid and wake up feeling tired and shitty. If I get any more sleep than that, I get even more shitty.

CGB,

Also, if the fan isn’t too loud, the white noise from it could help induce deep sleep.

I love mornings. I feel great if I get enough sleep, but if I sleep in, I feel like crap all day.

Yeah, I just didn’t want to drop the money, considering I won’t be bringing it back to the states with me, and I only have two weeks left. But I guess sleep is more important.

Road rash. I wake up every week day by 4:00 AM. Just a habit now so I can get ready for my AM workouts. I recently took up cycling and last Tuesday I went for a 45 minute ride in an unfamiliar area. When I got to the end of my loop and was turning to head back (at 5:00 AM), it was dark and I made a little miscalculation (there were street lamps, but they weren’t on for some reason). I crashed into a curb at about 17 mph and slammed into the pavement. I was awake after that. Other than that, I find hydration works well for me, and for something quicker, Power Drive, with or without caffiene, helps me be more mentally alert. Being consistent with sleep times is key.
