Waist Size Denial

I measured my waist last night for the first time. For the last five or so years, even after adding about 30+ lbs to my frame, have been able to fit fairly comfortably into 30 inch-waist pants.

After measuring last night, I found that I am at 34 inches according to the tape. If this is actually the case, I would have thought I would have been aware of this before. Has anyone else noticed a large discrepancy between their actual waist size and pant size?

Yeah it happens. My size 34 Levis slide can slide halfway down my ass even though my lower waist/hip measurement comes in at 37".

ditto

Wow, 30 inch waist? I wear a 34 in pants and they are a little loose. I don’t think my bones would shrink to 30 inches.

I do know that in the states compared to elsewhere female sizes have changed as the population has become more bloaty. What is now a 6 used to be a 8 and so on. I noticed when I go into stores now, I fit into half of the “medium” shirts as opposed to 5 years ago when it was all larges. It seems to me that pants have also increased by the same factor.

Of course you have a “barometer” in your 30" pants… unless they are getting stretched out at the same rate as your waist!

cb.

Yep, waist sizes have been changing recently, and it depends a lot on each manufacturer. It’s also harder to find a shirt that fits my shoulders and doesn’t look like a dress.

Shoulders and arms. It seems clothes are made for fat people.

An XL on me looks like too small up top, and like a sack at the waist.

XXL fits better up top, but my waist area swims in it even more.

My suit was purchased a few years ago and I was in bad shape. Now this $300.00+ suit fits like a dress at the waist and I can flex and stress the arms, shoulder area. I could probably bust it if I wanted to. It is becoming more difficult to put the jacket on.

Is it fair if I say clothes I find in stores suck because they are made for fat asses and not a decent physique?

Size inflation is ridiculous in this country. Sizes are not what they used to be 10 years ago.

The country is getting fatter. The stores are starting to carry larger sizes, and the regular sizes have already been inflated.

I find my true waist is usually 2 to 3 inches larger than stated size for dress pants and 3 to 5 inches greater for jeans. With dress pants I can at least order online and go 2 inches lower, but with jeans this would be impossible. My wife says that what is a 6 now used to be an 8. 10 years ago dress pants seemed to have measured 1 inch larger than my waist size and jeans seemed to do about the same. My jeans and dress pant used to be the same size, now it is like they are for 2 different people.

Your true waist size is measured two inches below your naval. Usually most pant makers use vanity sizing. For example - my true waist size is a 34, but I fit into most 32, some 31, and even some 30s believe it or not.

Sure.

And this just makes sense. Pick the next 100 men you see on the street, and how many have what you would call a good physique or proportions that would fit you well?

One maybe?

If that.

A lot of guys can still fit into the same jeans they wore in high school/college. The difference is that they are worn 4 or 5 inches lower.

I hear ya. Try weighing XXXL and standing 5’9".

I had the same thing with waist size denial. I only weigh in at about 175-180, but I still find it hard to find jeans that I can fit my legs into that I don’t swim around in the waist area.

Also I don’t feel like looking like a hippy with huge baggy jeans. Just have to shop around to find a pair that fits. Not good because I HATE shopping.
