Due to some recent events… I believe Big Jim will be off Powerful Women for a while… so he asked me to post this video for him (she is 8 months pregnant and it looks like she is squatting close to 100 lbs):
**** Don’t try this without consulting your Doc! I would imagine she was lifting nice and heavy LONG before she found out she was pregnant! =D[/quote]
Awesome. I used to joke around about deadlifting during delivery to speed up the process…
Here is another video Jim asked me to post (he is actually “coaching the Coaches” at our local Crossfit now on how to lift and how to teach others to lift… it’s a pretty cool gig actually. Crossfit called Louie Simmons at Westside and Louie recommended Jim… so that’s a huge compliment!) Anyway… he is an amazing Coach and hopefully he will be back on here soon to keep helping everything… once things get straightened out personally =D
I already posted to second video on another thread, but apparently this is the appropriate thread. She is a 33 mother of three I’ve been training for a while. She wants to compete in powerlifting and strongman. Next week she will be entering her first raw 3 lift meet in Sacramento, CA. I’ll posted her results and hopefully a video.
Yeah I realize depth is an issue, thats why you didn’t hear me say anything about the lift when she finished it. Her depth isn’t a flexibility issue, its 100% confidence with the weight. That is by far her biggest weakness right now.
Well, if I were you (which I’m not), I’d back her weight off and get her deeper if she has hopes to compete. I didn’t even think she looked deep enough on the 135 lb. Her confidence will really sink if she gets three red lights on the platform because of depth. In my parts, the hip crease has to descend below the top of the knee, which is often deeper than people think. Even parallel doesn’t cut it.
Hi Crow - the crowd around here is very anal about form (in a good way ladies). I know, I’ve felt the brunt of it myself. But those tire flip and farmers walks were pretty cool How much was she dragging frame and all?
I actually get very excited hearing about other women wanting to compete in powerlifting. My concern is that her depth isn’t quite deep enough for powerlifting and her DL form looks like an invitation to an injury. She leads with her hips, which transfers the work to the lower back. Have her drive into the floor with her heels and not bring her hips up prematurely.
Thanks nlmain for the clarifaction. Do all newbies to this forum get the same warm reception? I’m not new to T-Nation, and if you view my training log definitely not new to strength training. That said, I would like a forum to post Cori’s training sessions. She is pretty new to lifting and I am very proud of her progress thus far. I wanted a place to post her videos to other like minded females.
Here’s a little background about her. About 3 years ago believe it or not she actually weighed 270lbs! Soely through diet and aerobic exercise (no bullshit gastic bypass or stomach stapling, etc.) she is now down to 150lbs! I first met her about a year and half ago when I rehabbed her knee after her ACL reconstruction. She learned that I compete in olympic and powerlifting along with strongman. She attended a couple of meets and got hooked on the idea of competing. So after we discharged her as a patient, I started training her to be a strength sport athlete. I will say she has an incredible passion for iron now. Currently I consider her my training partner and expect big things out of her. She wants to compete in all three disciplines also.

Here yesterdays session.
For a super warm welcome, tell someone here that they are sexy
I enjoyed the videos. Her form may not be bang on but none of us were pristine when we started; nor are we yet. It’s really great to see someone drawn into something completely new and develop a real passion for it. It’s that passion and drive that keep us doing it and loving it. Sometimes it seems to be the least likely people that excel.
Tell her to start a log!! She is doing an awesome job! I am really impressed with her weight loss success and her strength and motivation. She’s also really cute. I think if she comes on here and interacts with other women who lift it could be a great tool for her in her journey to reach her goals. How long has she been training??
400 is a great DL.
405 is my current short term goal, almost there. i just like seeing the faces of the men in the gym when I pull bigger weights than them. Teehee :]
