well i think if you are going to lift, you may as well go all in. one guy in my local gym i once overheard saying, “I want to get big but not to big ya know? You watch WWE? I want to be the size of like Mr.Kennedy, no bigger. Those other guys are freaks”
And here is mr. kennedy

and one of those freaks as this guy said, Batista
who would you rather look like???

There’s nothing wrong with being a beginner.
What gets me is this “Athletic or BB” bullshit concept that has no basis. As if they are so far removed from each other that you have to ask which one to go for!
Also, the obvious; bodybuilding web site = bodybuilding!
In regards to the retards comment, look at the guy asking “why would you train like a bodybuilder?” Or the guy saying “I don’t want to train like one, just look like one.” Or the guy saying “you need steroids to do either.” Or the whole “tell me what to do with myself” mentality.I mean, really?
Those are the retards I mentioned earlier, not beginners as a broad category. As for the limiting themselves, would someone say “I only want to earn about $50,000 a year, I don’t want to get too rich,” or “I only want to sleep with three women in my life.” Just as unlikely it is you will be a multi-billionaire or the next Hugh Hefner, it’s unlikely you will ever get “too big.” So shut up with that idiotic though process.
I’ll admit, when I began, I was a dumbass about everything, but I knew enough to listen and to learn. I was lucky enough to get good info, but when people spout this nonsense to a beginner, it kind of fucks them over when they have this ideas that hold them back from something.
Plus I had to go furniture shopping for 8 hours today and that sucked, so that might have contributed to the “vitriol,” but I still maintain everything was valid.
Well said. The worst thing these personal trainers have done is implant the idea that you need to train differently to have a certain amount of muscle mass.
These guys have been fooled and very few of them seem capable of even listening to people who have more experience.
Man after training for such a short period of time, i’ve quickly realised the AMOUNT of hard work, time and discipline needed to acheive the physique i want.
To be able to keep motivated over a period of years is really challenging! I think at first you really need to make it one of the priorities in your life-a part of your life.
On the issue of personal trainers i am being trained by a BB’er right now(we’re good friends) and the only reason i took him up on his offer of training me is because he has the physique i want(230lbs, 6’ and single digit BF) and he seems v.knowledgable and focused on my progress.
Most PTs i’ve seen don’t give a rats ass about their clients. Their too busy chasing the women at the gym.
Honestly I would not want to be any larger than I am now.
Stronger would be nice, but larger isnt really important.

Bodybuilder. Hands down, no contest.

Why the fuck is this thread even around?

I’m bored.

Women like confidence, a full bank account and a guy who can knock their ass out in bed. If you can do that, no woman in her fucking right mind is going to turn you down because you weigh 250lbs ripped instead of 190lbs.

You’re right except for the full bank account.
I just like a guy who isn’t in debt. I hate personal fiscal irresponsibility.
But knocking my ass out in bed is the most important quality I look for.
how bout this…what do you want??
I like that the folks who try to act the most hardcore in the gym - act, as in they try to show it off - are the ones working out for someone else other than themselves. Doesn’t sound very “hard” to me.
Punks.

You sound insecure.
Pick what YOU feel looks best.
Personally my goal is just to look strong be strong and stay relatively lean. I don’t care if this is a bodybuilding site… it’s still the best entertainment and mix of people on a forum with lots and lots of knowledgeable people and articles. If people want to trash me for my goals I could give half a shit.
Do what you want to do.
Thank you. You’re the first to post (unless I missed one) the most obvious response - do what pleases you and stop trying to figure out what the world wants.

This has to be the most mentally masturbatory thread I’ve seen in a long time. The differences are so small, so inconsequential, that it seems pointless.
Chicks dig low BF%. Period. Regardless.
Agreed. Why the hell would you even focus on where you plan to stop at? Most people on the planet could NEVER look like Darrem Charles no matter what they did. The man is one of the most genetically gifted bodybuilders on the planet so even discussing this as if you are at risk of looking like that makes no sense at all.

Some of you need to quit talking and actually achieve something in the gym.
This shit takes YEARS to accomplish and that is if you have genetics better than most of the population…which most here do NOT.
I think this says it all. I just started training seriously at the end of August with the help of a friend who trains with experienced power lifters. For a long time before that I spent more time thinking about my goals than actually achieving them. It’s a complete waste of time to set some arbitrary goals when you haven’t done shit yet. In my opinion, as a beginner your ONLY goal should be to beat yourself each week and progress. Who cares what your goal is next year; what is your goal for today!
