Vinny's Strongman Log II

Oh I didn’t say slow down my friend, but credit where it is due. The hard work is paying off, now just to ride the strength wave as far as you can.

@oldbeancam thank you bean who is old and also cam. I think I will overshoot my 500 FS goal tbh. Gonna start peaking here soon after a deload.

6/22/20 - bw 230, kinda expected a miss day today, as I just wasn’t feeling good. My sleep wasn’t great and my diet for the last few days has been subpar. Had a friend training with me today and he fortunately distracted me from some nerves.

Hell of a session! Sometimes you’ve got to fuck listening to your body and beat it into submission. Once it realizes that this is what’s gonna happen, it often submits to the plan.

Thanks man, that describes it perfectly. Not always does it work, but it sure did this time haha.

6/26/20 - BW 230 not happy with today at all. Something has been feeling off since last DL session. I aggravated a nerve in my back by doing the DB SLDL with a belt. The belt seemed to compress a nerve. Also, I hurt my rib (one i dislocated last year) on 315 push press warm up before my 340. My entire body just feels so twisted up right now. I took deadlifts today anyway as they werent very heavy, but things just didn’t feel great.

I haven’t used a belt in years for this reason alone. I always got injured when I used one and could never get it right. Never got any extra weight, a better feeling or anything out of it other than injuries, especially on the deadlift. I imagine a SLDL would pinch even more so due to sitting back pushing further into the belt. Hopefully things clear up for you Vin!

Feel better bud !!

Yeah it’s so weird. I always felt a bit weird using a belt in certain situations. Like on yoke, if I put it on too tight, it literally compresses stuff in my spine and I feel weird all over. It’s kinda why I train yoke beltless until I absolutely need it, and even then it’s on loose. The only thing I can afford to wear it tight on is overhead and maybe front squats.

@Spock81 @oldbeancam Thanks for the well wishes. I’ll be fine. Nothing serious, just nagging stuff. I may delay the start of my squat training until I feel ready.

I have a lot of never ending nagging stuff. I’m not sure if we’re more prone to this stuff because of our crookedness ?? All the joints on my right side hurt … I cant tell if the other lifters I see on Instagram hurt because they never mention it , they just post their perfectly symmetrical lifting so in my head I think oh, ok, they must not feel hurty all over

I hate this about social media. There probably are a bunch of people who don’t hurt as much but anyone who has been lifting for a considerable amount of time with any intensity will experience pain and injuries.

Fixed that for you :joy::joy:

@Koestrizer @simo74 @Spock81

If you look at a lot of my lifts, especially deadlifts, from certain angles they look very symmetrical and almost textbook perfect form. The reality is, my leg length is severe enough that certain CP’s (depending on what they want to sell me) advised I get a lift in my shoe and it was imperative that I do so.

After some trial and error with PT’s and some studying on my own behalf, I began to realize my body, along with 99.9% of the population, is riddled with asymmetry, chronic micro-injuries and muscular imbalances - some worse than others.

High-level athletes are no exception. Dmitry Klokov is a great example. He always utilized a staggered stance in his cleans and squats due to an injury (allegedly) he sustained in his youth that caused him to need surgery that would compromise the symmetry of his legs. This man became one of the most prolific weightlifters of all time and he has a pretty severe asymmetry.

For me, pains come and go. I’m not in any more pain than I was in 2012-2016, but I get new pains that work their way in. I just accept it as a challenge and move forward in trying to remedy it and work through it or with it.

The reality is, as time goes by, I realize how limited this dream of being strong is. We have maybe 20-30 years, if we’re lucky, to take our bodies to the brink before mother nature snatches it all away. If you’re in pain - good, you’re alive! Right? I think so…

Oh, caveat. Don’t fuck yourself up guys. It often appears that enough pain seems to indicate a threatening serious injury, so yeah.

Haha we knew that mate. Although on a completely different level, I have been around the block a few times myself and have collected a few ouchies on the way.
But luckily nothing too serious or concerning in the long run. Well long run for lifting, not life, haha.

Some of us don’t run into stuff in the night though.
