9/13/17 - Bw 222. You guessed it, kinda fucked my wrist cleaning 135 to put it back into the rack. The bar is bent so it kind of landed badly and yeah…still worked today but it hurt like a bitch

Log Clean and Press (clean every rep)
110x3,3,3 split jerks
200x3,3,3 all split jerks
230x3,3 split jerks
250x3 super super easy and fast
270x0, meh, tried to split jerk and it got out in front. Feels bad when you’ve pressed 340 on the log before.

very angrily i did this with 2 min rest periods…
250x5
250x5
250x5

All the reps done were very fast and i didn’t waste time before the next clean. Never hustled so much with 250 on the log. Very odd that I failed at 270. I think I’m good for like an AMRAP set of 10 cleans and presses with 250.

Close Grip Incline w/ Pause
225x7
225x6
225x7
225x5

Face Pulls
x15
x15

My shoulders are killing me after this workout+my dumb wrist. I wanna rest but i can’t right now. Still gotta go forward somehow.

Beltless Pause Front Squat
135x5,5,3
225x3,3
275x3
335x1
365x1
405x1
425x1 pretty easy, slow, but it didnt feel that heavy

Yoke/Farmers Medley
180/120 per hand x 50ft
360/170 per hand x 60ft
450/210 per hand x 60ft
540/210 per hand x 60ft
570/210 per hand x 60ft
660/210 per hand x 60ft god awful
540/260 per hand x 60ft the farmers walks are so god damn easy but yoke is killing me. My leg length discrepancy is making me wobble so damn much. I’ve walked 750 much easier than the 660 today and it was 3-4 years ago.

Log split jerks? Did you press them out? That’s shit I need to see. Hell just split jerking an empty log without a press out would impress me.

I’ll try to get a video of them. I did press them out but they feel so funky omg. Definitely a mess, and I think honed in I can get more weight over head, but I am not a trained weightlifter so…

Also, we coincidentally commented on eachothers logs at the exact same time. Weird.

I noticed. And yeah, splits are wizadry. I am switching to power jerks, and literally all of my jerk issues are going away. Pyyros Dimas was a power jerker so I guess it’s a valid style.

Is it worth learning how to jerk ‘properly’ with an implement? I’ve seen international level Weightlifters put up big weights that way for fun, but I am not sure if it’s even the best way to do it when you’ve got a funky, stiff implement that doesn’t really spin.

Mikhail was a Weightlifter (really good one at that) who did strong man, did he ever do that? Though he looks like he has retarded strict pressing strength.

Misha split jerked a 210kg log at WSM in 2010. Rob Kearney split jerked a 400lb log for the middle weight record. Insane. Zack McCarley who racked up tons of pro national wins as a LW/MW and won worlds at 90kg split jerked the log as well. His best was around 330-340 I believe. Seems to be a trend among great athletes. I figured I better work on it lol.

How much more do you get on front squat with a belt?

Never done anything with a belt, might start to put heavier weight and feel good about myself if it’s worth doing.

Is calling Koklyaev “misha” one of those weird Russian nicknames like Sasha? I know it’s what he is normally called online, but I never see it in writing by him/people he knows in person, and I don’t think I’ve heard him be called that by people he knows.

And crazy numbers , how many of those were former Weightlifters?

His name is Michail Wiktorowitsch Kokljajew. Yeah russian nicknames are very confusing. For example my girlfriend’s mother’s name is Alexandra and she ist called Sascha by people close to her.

I’ve paused 455 with a belt on front squat, and I can probably do 440-450 without one. I’d say 10-20lbs honestly, for me.

None. They all practiced the split jerk to get more weight overhead for strongman purposes.

That’s really cool. I wonder if they had weightlifting bars to practice on. Stiff barbells tear the shit out of my joints for jerks, I can’t imagine learning to split jerk first on a stiff bar/impliment.

Yeah, they definitely had practice on a regular bar/axle first. I noticed Zack McCarley would push jerk primarily on log or axle for reps in contests, and when it became too much to push jerk after fatigue sat in, he’d split jerk and get a few more reps.

Zack is imo one of the best strongmen ever, period. He lacked so much static strength as a pro but just made up for it with insane technical proficiency on the events and amazing athleticism and conditioning.

Around the 50 second mark you can see his push jerking and random split jerking as well.
