Nice Job Brother! big milestone!
Just curious, how much time did it take to go from 405 to 455? to 405? How much did you start from?
10/15/16
Axle Deadlifts (conventional)
135x10
225x3
315x3
425x15, had 2 more reps in me to total failure but i’m aiming for 15 reps each AMRAP session for axle work. I’d like to cap out around at least 455 for 15 and maybe more if I can get a bit stronger in due time.

380x40ft/200x140ft
380x40ft/200x140ft
380x40ft/200x140ft not even that hard, but I felt so empty when I finished I was worried i was going to faint.
Seemingly easy day but very hard in actuality. Spent.
Thanks! I think I’ll finally have 500 sooner than later.
I started with a 345lb front squat max (no pause) around 2012, but I was only 19 at the time. I hit 405 probably in 2013 for the first time, then 460 in later 2014 but it was with a cross armed grip and no pause.
I think I can get 475-485 without a pause now actually, and I’m lighter than ever too. Part of it is maturing since I’d say I was a late bloomer lol.
I take it that you started training leg properly in 2012 or a bit before that?
Yeah actually. Before 2012, in high school, I trained like a bodybuilder and hardly squatted just doing leg extensions and curls. Pretty sad stuff.
425 for 15 on the Axle is pretty fucking disgusting hombre
I’ll find something really stupid to do. How would you feel about shortest time to 100 reps of 315 on the squat in one workout? That sounds like something neither of us would have an advantage at.
Well I guess I was not wanting to be the weakest person there, not wanting to zero any events, etc, etc, excuse, excuse.
The upcoming competition is a partners comp (on Oct 29 - <2weeks):
- Tandem Bus Pull
- 230lb Log Clean Once and Press for Reps: As soon as partner 1 cleans the log the lag may not drop below their chest or their turn is over and partner 2 must start lift. Most reps per partner pair in 90seconds wins event.
- 800lb Tractor Tire Flip: Partner 1 flips towards partner 2. Partner 2 flips back to partner 1. Most flips in 90seconds. (This is actually the event I’m most worries about as I’ve never touched a tire anywhere near this size…going to have to start asking around)
- 500lb farmers carries. Partner 1 down, partner 2 back (not sure of distance - fastest time, if dropped you get measured)
- 500lb Yoke. Partner 1 down, partner 2 back (not sure of distance - fastest time, if dropped you get measured)
A friend from high school who has done a couple strongman comps before is coming to my place to do some training tonight. We are going to play with the log a bit and test out the farmers walk handles I made, then make a decision on entering this comp as a team. I’m thinking more and more of just doing it, identifying some weaknesses and hitting it hard over the winter.
I definitely need to start doing some more loaded carries, my static strength is OK, but when it comes to some of the medleys you are doing, there is no way I could do half of the crap you do…
10/22/16 - Got really sick this last week and couldnt even lift. Glad to be back but oh man am I weak. bw 225 ![]()

Having lost some weight+not having trained definitely put me down a notch but it’s all good. Happy to feel better again.
10/24/16 - still feeling lethargic and definitely light in the BW. I’m a bit too light for my own good, but still afaid to add calories because I don’t wanna be fat.

I definitely know that feeling lately with health getting in the way of training. Stronk 455 front squat though. Why do you just go down to parallel though, not enough mobility or do you feel like it is better for transferring to the deadlift? I always like to go rock bottom on high bar/front squats because it’s hard for me to be consistent with my depth otherwise, and because stopping at parallel doesn’t feel good on the knees in my opinion.
Honestly, for years I squatted that way off camera without ever having seen my squat and it felt ATG. Obviously now I can squat way lower knowing I’ve only been going to parallel, but I have to completely lose the arch in both of my feet to do so, and I’m not going to lie, I’m NOT fucking doing that with a 90%+ weight on my chest. It’s a comfort thing because my ankles and hips are absolutely disgusting. I have to force arches to even squat otherwise I’m putting myself at risk of exploding knee syndrome. So yeah.
Don’t worry I am jelly of you!
10/26/16 - BW 226. Got this session done very fast and I actually was overwhelmed with nausea by the end of it. Very hard day but easy on paper.

225x3/230x2, failed the last one because the belt I wore exclusively on my last set pushed the log way forward and I couldn’t generate force from that position. Had the strength for certain but used the belt because of precariousness of leaning back to complete extension.
Definitely have to add in some calories. The right calories. Definitely feel as though it’s not the weight drop that costed me some strength, but the lack of nutrition and feeling dizzy from not giving myself enough carbs in the morning. Left brachioradialis is flared up pretty bad. Always does from one motions.

Sir, our definitions of easy are very different…nothing about this on paper looks easy.
Your training log is amazing for making my workouts seem like child’s play, and for that, I thank you. ![]()
Appreciate it. I do sincerely hope I can actually make people want to work a little harder. I too had a coming to terms a few years back when I realized I wasn’t training hard or smart enough at the right balance. Reading the logs of similarly minded guys definitely helps to keep you humble and yet competitive at the same time. I think that’s important.
I’m reminded of my first contest in 2013 @ NC Strength Challenge. I was 19 years old and thought I was able to make a decent placing. Not even. FYI, Lynn Morehouse puts on some heavy and seriously hard fucking strongman shows. The right kinds. Anyway, I got completely destroyed by older more experienced guys and I almost zero’d all the events, except the pressing event (which I won LOL). Point is, I can never be strong or good enough and while you’re young and/or able, you should really just compete. You’ll find you get lost in the moment and forget about any doubts you had and just become engulfed in the experience. It’s really fun but then when you compete time and time again, the nerves fall away, and it allows your competitiveness to become unbridled. I think I definitely I have a lot more to learn actually. I’ve learned probably more from @Alpha in the last few years than I have from anybody.
Anyway…this shit isn’t very fun if you can’t communicate with like minded people. Gotta stay connected, especially for me, since I train alone.
Well said, and yes I agree that being immersed in a group of other like minded people really gives you that extra boost to work hard and continue to become more effective with each workout. Just within the last couple weeks I’ve now found a local Strongman competitor (high school friend a couple years younger) and we have done done few workouts together and just ‘talked shop’. We have both been training alone for the past few years and just doing our own reading and experimenting and it was refreshing to know we both have VERY similar views on both training and nutrition…
Also knowing how hard he trains really makes me try to make the most of each workout as to not ‘fall behind’.
But, yes, watching and reading your posts make me want to put my body through more abuse than I currently am! So keep them coming!
