Not quite impressive enough for the strength forum seeing as a vid of a 1000 pound bench is floating around. But a little interesting I thought.

Good find
Yeah… thats gotta burn!
That should be impressive to anyone! I remember Dr. Fred Hatfield only being able to squat 500 for 11 reps, despite his 1000+lb squat max.
That is incredible.
Cool. Kaz looked HUUGE in that shot.

From the book “Hardcore Bodybuilding” by Dr.Squat (Fred Hatfield):
The Golden Eagle (Tom Platz) got beat soundly (600 to 840) in maximum weight lifted. Both men weighed in at 198 pounds. On the flip side, when it came time for the reps contest, Dr.Squat got his butt whipped. The Golden Eagle performed 23 reps with 525 pounds to Dr.Squat’s 11 reps. Bodybuilders “need” primarily anaerobic strength endurance, while powerlifters need primarily limit strength.
Hey, thanks for the video!
That was cool watching Platz spin out 23 clean reps at 500+ pounds. What did he weigh, 200lbs or so?
How many of you guys can take a weight that is over double body weight and squat it for 20+ reps. I can’t!
That was done Olympic style to boot. Imagine if he had the power of Westside and squatted with a much wider stance…for a smaller (lighter bodyweight) he give the super heavies a run for their money.
Where can I get a neon green power belt?

you forgot to say, “i can’t even chin up that much.”

At a body weight of 189lbs. if I did 40 straight chins that would be 189x40=7,560lbs. As opposed to Platz doing 500x23=11,500.
I can’t even Chin-up that much!
I was thinking the exact same thing. Narrow stance, full ROM. That is just plain frightening right there.

no, Platz also lifted his weight. In a squat you move roughly 75% of your weight. Weighing about 200 you have to add in 3,450 to get 14,950. Also, in the chin, you only move about 90% of BW so 6,830? ROM is about the same. By the way, Reportedly, Paul Anderson did 950 x 10 and weighed 390. AND Arnold benched 225 x 57, 315 x 34. Kaz did 2 x 15 at 435 in his routine. Oh yea, and didn’t Casey Viator do like 585 x 23 at the END of a tri-set (in the CE)? I’ll look it up.
ZEB: you are a machine!
Here’s the famous tri-set. And it was described that he took 10-15 seconds between exercises and his squats were ass touching the ground.
On June 10, he did the following:
Leg Press – 750 pounds x 20 reps
Leg Extension – 225 pounds x 20 reps
Squat – 502 pounds x 13 reps
It was also mentioned that he did 45 reps at 840 on the 45 degree leg press at one point.

Don’t forget to take time into account.
Awesome video, thanks for posting it.

Wow, old thread. Felt compelled to make a correction:
Viator performed 840x45 on a Universal leg press at the end of the Colorado Experiment. Which, if you have used one, is very different than a 45 degree leg press.
"Prior to the start of the experiment (approximately an hour before the first workout), initial strength tests to a point of failure were performed on a Universal Machine. And at the end of the experiment (three days after the last workout), a final strength test was again performed on a Universal Machine.
During the first test, Viator performed 32 repetitions in the leg-press with 400 pounds . . . 28 days later, having done nothing even close to a leg-press in the meantime, he performed 45 repetitions with 840 pounds. And was forced to quit at that point because of pain, rather than muscular failure."
