Sorry, i meant to say that he was spotted on the beach by a BBer who took him into Golds gym where the barbarian brothers were training, they spotted him there and invited him to join them.

You say you don’t respect a man that has accomplished 100x more than you ever will in your life, because he didn’t do what he didn’t WANT to do, and want people to tone down their opinions of YOU?

You, my friend are soft. You’re brain doesn’t function correctly.

Don’t be so quick to tear down others, fucking arm chair quarterbacking, if you don’t want people to tear you down.

What are your stats again?

lol its the next Prof. X, hahahaha. Quick to insult and name call anyone who has a different viewpoint.

What was the need to call him “brain soft” and accuse him of “armchair quarterbacking”?

And “What are your stats”… pff, that shit is old man. Anytime someone has a clash of opinions, the person who lifts more and has a lower bf% is automatically correct. WTF?

Because what someone lifts CLEARLY has a bearing on their opinions. I mean, shit, post some pics of IFBB judges who look like they even lift. Yet they’re judging BB.

Again, its a discussion board. Some ppl on here are way too sensitive about BB, and can’t take a single negative comment, however well founded it may be.

I can’t work you out ?
Some of your posts seem reasonable, some seem completely off the hook ?

No problem, i think this one is actually fairly reasonable.
There was no need for:-

I’m not gonna address it because you are a troll. And a dipship that just ruins this board a little more with each post you make. I don’t like to encourage that behavior.

Nice avatar…

I dont agree that the guy was standing on the sidelines he didn’t owe anyone anything to compete. Most sports have people that only do it on the sidelines and never compete, a lot of those people get to the elite level without competing.

Ive seen people bench and deadlift way more weight then the current state records and national records in some feds, they aren’t interested in competing, do they owe powerlifting something? there are snowboarding legends that get invited to the olympics every year and never go or do a single competition.

There are shot putters and olympic lifters that can be very competitive in other track events and never do it. I dont see how any of this takes away from the greatness of these guys.

Competing is a very time consuming activity and you have to adjust your schedule and your hobby accordingly, thats not for everyone. Some people just don’t give a shit if they are the best middle or average in the world they just want to get better for themselves.

BTW did anyone else find it funny that this guy had better development at 16 then a lot of the posts in physique forums.

I don’t respect the man at all. Sorry.

He had a talent; the genetics and he obviously had the determination but he didn’t maximize his potential or at least utilize it. He could have been great but he just stood on the side lines.

Yeah its America I know you can do what YOU want but sometimes what you want isn’t whats best for you or isn’t serving you to accomplish “something.”

Ronnie talks about God giving him his gift, like he was put on the planet to be a bodybuilder. The difference between him and Vic? Ronnie’s got the shelf trophies and the influence.

We can only define great men as those who accomplished something greater than themselves and had an impact on society. Its only natural to feel agitated and remorseful at those that could have been great men.
What rubbish!

That’s like judging someone’s worth by the size of their house, bank account, and number of cars they own.
Some people live their lives without the promise of external reward.
Vic Richards proves that what counts is what’s inside you.

Remember Jim Thorpe’s story? Sure, the committee revoked his medals, but that didn’t take away HIS accomplishments.

Some people don’t need trophies to feel good about what they KNOW they have accomplished. As for your last line, you can define great men in a number of ways. Vic obviously didn’t feel he owed anything to anyone else and I think he was right.

OK w/e its MY opinion =P

I didnt say he had to prove himself the whole point of my post was that there WAS another path that would have made him successful. I think its foolish to say that “OK he did this; hes perfect.”

I dont mind you guys responding to my comments but can we just tone it down.

Lol, I’m glad you don’t “mind” me responding to your comments. This is T-Nation, so get over your comfort issues. The path that he took DID make him successful. You just refuse to see that competition against others is not the only path to greatness. Bodybuilding is about progress IMO, not trophies.

To have a door like that opened to you at that age would be amazing… I would have killed for an opportunity like that…

I remember reading about him and all his interviews in Flex, M&F, etc. but everything there was so skewed and deliberately misleading. To this day, I would love to know what his diet/eating habbits were and what his training was… Sure he was genetically gifted, but without hard work and the proper nutrition, he never would have accomplished what he did with his body… That’s the info I’d love to see and put out by an author with integrity, not the Weider smoke and mirrors crap…

I’d love to see one of our T-Nation authors give him a quality interview…

He works out at my gym in Portland, Oregon. I think he travels a lot because he seems to be gone in the summers. I talked to him a few times and he’s pretty friendly but tends to dominate the conversation.

I tend to agree. He lifted weights because he loved it…and he loved being fucking huge. Jumping on stage doesn’t make him any more or less a “BODYBUILDER”…even though some here would truly be dumb enough to argue that he wasn’t since he avoided competition as a rule.

Watching another thread of Vic Richards I remembered you, and I was gonna ask if you knew of him, but I think of course you did. I think his highest bodyweight was 360~, no shit.

I believe he lived in Houston for a while and still may. He keeps a low profile lately despite still looking like a fucking tank in his 40’s. I didn’t know him personally, but I know a lot about him.
Remember the Flex piece about him allegedly consuming 10,000 calories a day? Where are his “hawt abz” tho? What a failure, what with him ending up gigantic and really strong

Keep those boys working hard mate. I live in NZ and our boys here generally know if they have the talent and if they do they give it their hundie. If uve ever been here ull know we pretty much live rugby. Go the warriors mate.

U guys got a ways to go b4 the wallabies get anyway near our ABs (and stop blaming Dean) buts thats another discussion in itself haha

I remember in an interview he said his trophy fell apart after an early contest of his and that is when he knew that competition was not for him. His body is probably healthier today because of avoiding the intesne dieting.

I don’t know where you got the impression that people here are claiming he is perfect. But it does take a strong sense of security in yourself to have that much potential and NOT be clamoring for attention and magazine covers. He admire him for sticking to his reasons and walking away.
He BROKE that trophy, maybe part of the reason he did’nt compete much after that? He disliked the politics. Not that I blame him

He used to lift at a 24hour near me… well It was called family fitness back then. It was funny how much he would stand out against all the others in there.

I remember on day he was outside setting on this foutain. Outside the gym eating out of what looked like one of those comerical Ice cream containers they have in “1-3 scoop ice cream places”

I think he is up in Oregon now. This was in SoCal

Agreed. I really don’t understand that post. Vic is well educated. I believe both of his parents are either doctors or college level professors so he isn’t exactly someone who needs to live off of his looks.

For that matter, I am amazed someone would type that to start with…as if we only deserve respect if we do what other people want us to do instead of excelling at what makes us happy. This man is still being talked about over a decade after his last public appearance and he never reached “pro status”. If that doesn’t mean he actually achieved something, then something is wrong.

It is very funny that someone so ready to rip on a bodybuilder who built himself to that degree can’t take any heat in return.

I know Ronnie has bust his ass to be the big man he is, but I prefer the aesthetics of Vic’s physique.

I can’t believe that’s how big Vic was at 16. Unreal.

The original post was great, cool to see how much he developed in 2 years, this thread whent to shit fast tho.

People put up Kai’s diet, but wasn’t his diet insane like pounds of rice pineapples and chicken.

actually what ruins this board is the instantanteous, judgmental attitude of the older members like yourself. just tear down anyone who has a different opinion, or who doesn’t fit your standards.

you can’t accept anyone looking at it from the outside, and saying something.

pathetic. and you claim to be strong… well not mentally. you’re so insecure you have to denigrate everyone who is not in agreement with you. and i’m not talking about me.

You’re not wrong but i am guessing before he started lifting weights he must have looked fairly impressive!

Perhaps we should start a thread requesting that T-Nation get the interview sorted out, i am sure Vic would like to give his side of things concerning his career and his choices (not that he has to justify anything of course!)
