It would not surprise me to see that these would not only be comfortable, but also improve performance.
I spoke to a foot doctor when going through rehab for a foot injury and he mentioned how being barefoot is more natural and is how the foot was meant to function.
Other than possibly cutting your feet , hygeine, and weakness of the ankle muscles, there isnt much reason not to go barefoot. Never tried it though. [/quote]
I absolutely love being barefoot, or the very least have flip flops on. Shoes suck.

anyone with flat feet wear these? my feet are flat as the floor

found this on the vibram website.
HOW CAN I TELL IF FIVEFINGERS ARE RIGHT FOR MY FEET?
Experience is the best benchmark. Generally speaking, people with very flat feet should gradually transition to wearing Vibram FiveFingers.
Brief periods of toe walking will also help you learn to bear weight on a more raised arch platform, since even the most flat- footed individuals will form some degree of an arch in toe walking.

I actually need some new shoes and may check these out in a week or two. Question I have for the peeps that have them would be is there really a difference between the models? The list of activities they can be used for is pretty much the same.
It looks like the only differences are how enclosed your foot will be. I’d be looking to use them as my everyday shoe, sprinting, and lifting. Hopefully, the employees at the store will be able to help me out.
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK where I can get these?
Cheers

I might have to get a pair of the Vivo Barefoot shoes, does anyone own these? Thanks for the good read!
More and more experts are saying that barefoot is the healthiest way for your feet.
Check out terraplana and VivoBarefoot:
I have the dharma canvas ones. I love them, once i started walking in them my posture improved and my back pains weren’t so bad.
These are more for casual use, but they say you can use them in all sports. I suppose if one wanted to be barefoot all the time you could use the vivobarefoots for outside the gym, and you could use Nike frees and vibram five fingers in the gym and sprinting.

How are the vivos sized? I have wide feet, this is my only concern. Just walking in the VFFs for a few days I’m noticing how severe most folk’s heel strike is while walking, makes me cringe.

They run a little small, so maybe a half size bigger. I ordered mine in UK size, so UK 10 and I’m like a 10.5-11 in US sizes (dont’ remember the proper conversion but you can change the sizes with the currency button in the upper right corner) Don’t worry about width they are plenty wide, I have narrow feet and I have excess room. They even talk about about that somewhere on the site that they make them pretty wide so as not to constrict the feet or toes, as if you were really good barefoot. Its really only the bottom thats protecting your feet from getting punctured.
Not really worth it to watch the whole video. But it gives you a good idea of the material and what the sprint looks like.
I just picked up a pair of the Vibram KSOs last night. I can’t wait to try anything and everything in them. I wanted the Sprint but the store didn’t have them and I’m not patient enough to buy them online and wait. haha
Quick update: just spent the weekend in the Appalachian Mountains and put the Five Fingers to the test- 5 mile hike over some of the roughest terrain I’ve been on in years. My ability to trek over all the steep slopes, rocks, and roots was improved, maintained a fast pace too. For the first time hiking I felt like I didn’t need my trekking poles. No foot blisters or joint pain from the excursion!
Also my corns are starting to fade away.
Check out the current Oct 2008 issue of Men’s Fitness, they review barefoot training and the Fives. It’s been over a month and no hint of the old shin splints.
Dre, how did you like the fives?
I use my VFF KSOs all the time now in the gym for DLs & squats - nevermind I get people doing doubletakes followed by “Dude, what the hell are those you have on your feet?”
Hog Ear: I second the whole heel strike impact thing - using these on the treadmill is a constant reminder to land on the balls of your feet when running at a decent pace.
Great change of pace for footwear for the gym as opposed to always wearing Asics, Chucks, or Frees for those so inclined

They are by far the best things I have ever put on my feet. They are great in the gym. I have never felt more grounded and balanced while doing deads, squats, anything!
The only thing that sucks is winter is right around the corner here in Wisconsin and the KSOs are not meant for the cold weather. However, I’m seriously considering getting the Flows. I’ve been reading that with some Injinji socks, they handle the winter pretty well. I think I’ll be getting some Injinji socks anyways though to go with my KSOs just so I can keep wearing them as the weather gets cold.
I’ll stick to my Nike Rejuven8s.

You really don’t know what you are missing. I have to wear shoes at work, which sucks. But when I get home, put my Vibrams on and walk to the gym, it’s like learning how to walk all over again. You just don’t realize how much shoes throw off your natural walking motion. It takes me a good 10-15 minutes to stop heel striking and walk how I’m suppose to.
The other thing with wearing these is that my posterior knee pain in my right knee is completely gone. I really can’t say enough good things about the Vibrams.
