Comment: The squat session was hard given I had no energy what so ever. It was an effort just to get through every set. It went ok. Today I had more time which was nice and spent a lot of time just decompressing.

Started on Surgery as an intern on Wednesday and the first two days have been a nightmare. Getting up and in the hospital around 4:30am and staying until the evening is killing me. Found out yesterday I had the day off and I was so pumped to get a little caught up on sleep. Makes me remember why I never wanted to go into surgery.

Thankful: for getting a day off, getting to see inside out

Pros: didn’t feel great and was still hitting some of the numbers, got through this one
Cons: my sleep schedule is all out of wack
Comment: didn’t have my mojo today and attitudes been off. These days on and off and fluctuating my sleep are impacting me more than I thought. I feel really good about my deadlift volume going up and I just didn’t have the drive for the last couple sets. Got in a little later than I would have liked. The rest of the workout was just making it through.

Pros: getting the work in, while being pretty busy
Con: I’m so bad at OHP and front squats it’s sickening
Comment: We’ll my weakness is my upper back. I felt like I was improving on front squats and I put a little extra weight on the bar and it was a lot harder. During my second exercise the bar starts rolling down my arms. Sadly, I may be even worse on overhead movements. I was an idiot to neglect both of those throughout my training. I also need to do more sandbag carries, and that has not happened. I need a good nights sleep because I’m dragging a lot and I’m very thankful for one day left this week.

Pros: better set ups than last week, felt a lot better than last week
Con: my front squat technique is not where it needs to be
Comment: this week I spent more time on my initial set up and it turned out to be a smart move. I was move comfortable with the weight and it was closer to my center of mass. I lean forward a lot on my squats so front squats are difficult for me. The speed squats felt really good this week. I felt a lot more in the groove this week and I ate something before the gym and I thought it was a huge help for energy.

Comment: Training over the past 3 weeks has been a little harder than expected. As I get to the end of my weeks I’m dead by the time I get into the gym. I was short on time on Friday and I just got in the minimum amount of work. The sling shot bench felt like crap and I wasn’t tight at all.

Today felt pretty good. I didn’t feel great going in but all my work sets felt good on the deads which was nice. I got a new KB for my birthday and I think my new goal is to get swings in every day. I’m exhausted every week on the deadlift days.

26 was easily the best year of my life. I married my boo, matched, graduated medical school, and moved back to Columbus. My goals for 27 are to compete in at least one meet and to do a jiu jitsu tourney. I also am planning on getting into OSU’s professional MBA program and passing Step 3.

Comment: My ohp continues to be a struggle for me. I feel like I have no control when I unrack the weight, and I transfer no force into the bar when I try to use leg drive. There is a lot of room for improvement on this movement and this day is a challenge every week.

Comment: today was the best I’ve felt on front squats maybe ever. I still suck at these but there has been improvement after training them for six weeks. I got out of the clinic early and did my weekly run and I think this weekend is going to be hectic so I went and got my training in a day early. I’m very happy I have two days of surgery left and I’ll start to get an extra hourish of sleep. That will be huge for my quality of life. I start on nights this weekend as well, which will be goofy for me to adjust because I’ve never done them.

Comment: I’m switching to nights and it’s killing me. I tried going to the gym early to get my training in and none of my gyms were open so I went to another one and had no mojo. Tried getting my nap in and got no sleep. Went back to the gym and tried again. Mojo was there but was off from trying to train earlier. Learned a lesson about switching. I should just get up early, go for a walk, nap then train before I go in. I’m a little disappointed because trainign was going so well and my routine is off again. Training in residency is turning out to be more difficult than I planed. I’m already excited for two weeks when I’m back on days and I can get locked into a routine again. Comment: I’m struggling with energy and sleep. Today felt moderate at best. I think I’m going to wrap this program up on the weeks end and make a shift for 6 weeks to base building before returning to 5/3/1 for a long while. My back is tightening up and my base for the pressing just felt weak. I was not awake for this training session and I’m marking it off due to poor sleep quality for the past week. I’ve enjoyed the change of pace over the past roughly 18 weeks. I’ll be more regimented over the next 6 weeks and I’m going to use that time to try something new.

Comment: This was a lot more taxing than I expected. The volume was high and it felt great for my hips and hammies. I’m going back to the boring but big three month challenge. I wanted the extra reps with the basics. I might add in some very light form work with other exercises, but I’m going to try to stick to the plan and see how it goes. I enjoyed the last program and I’m glad the OHP is staying so I need to find a spot to have some fronts squats. I need to eat more if I’m going to be doing this and I need to be careful over the next couple days because I’ll be finishing up my night float. My sleep has been in the toilet and that’s no good in this type of training. It will improve significantly over the next 6 weeks so now is the time to get my mojo flowing.

Thankful: for getting to see my wife
