I got first place in the 220 class and I weighed in at 218.
I did not taper for this meet and I did not really care about this meet. I honestly would have rather just done my normal training on this day. I had a good time with my friends who competed and we had about 9 people go this year. I talked to a lot more people this year and I tried to help as many people out as possible. There’s a 220 kid named Cody Light who is going to be an absolute monster. He has an identical twin I guess who’s just as strong. This kid is probably stronger than me, he just had no clue what he could do. He made all his lifts look like a joke and set the junior national record for squat, bench, and total. Matt Fox who got second is a great guy, and it came down to my last pull for me to beat him. Lance and the other 220’s are great guys and it’s good seeing people at the meet from last year. I think I was able to enjoy myself more this year than last, mostly because I just entered the meet to do it. The meet had about 90 lifters and was poorly run so we didn’t get out of there until about 7:30PM.
My thoughts on myself and powerlifting. At this point I don’t think I have a passion for the sport. I miss Jiu Jitsu and I need to make it a goal to get back into it. It’s easy to find gyms when I’m moving around every month, but I can’t say the same for finding a place to do Jiu Jitsu. I think powerlifting is a good tool to test where you’re at but I don’t find myself getting competitive like I did when I played sports. I still am going to train because I just love getting stronger. I would like to implement more strongman stuff into my training. I would like to hit my three year goals of hitting a 650 squat, a 420 bench, and a 700 pull by the time I’m 29. My focus now is to make sure I’m healthy. I really need to work on building my hammies, glutes, and rear delts because they are severely slacking. I don’t think I’m going to compete for at least a year and I just need to build my base. Training has given me the best relationships I’ve made over the past 3 years since leaving college.
I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do and where I’m at athletically, mentally, and spiritually in the upcoming year. I’ll be getting married, finding out where I’ll be going for residency, and bouncing around the rust belt of Ohio and PA. It’s been a great year and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
God bless, vigilance
Dan
