I just moved to this town and am looking for a gym. I’ve been to a couple but they wouldn’t let me snatch or deadlift. Any recommendations… Thanks Gord

You can snatch and deadlift at Olympic Athletic Club on 212 West 1st Ave. There are bumper plates in the corner by the power cage.
You can also deadlift at Raptor’s Gym on Kingsway, and more than likely at Fitness Quest on Main Street. These are basic good old fashioned gyms. I am not sure if they are equipped for snatching or Olympic movements.
You may be able to do snatches, etc. at Spartacus gym on Commercial Drive. I’m not sure, but I have been told that at some point in the past they were a powerlifting gym. This may not be the case any longer, I think they are under new ownership, you’ll have to look into it.
You can deadlift at the Gold’s Gym in North Vancouver, but you cannot snatch there. No room for it, no bumper plates. I asked them about it.
I have been told that there are some serious powerlifters training at the Canada Games Pool in New Westminster.
I have not been there, but “The Coop” at University of British Columbia may be fully equipped. If you live anywhere near there, you should look into their equipment.

I would agree that Olympic is typically the best equipped to handle the heavy lifting. There’s a fair bit of that there mostly through one of the strength coaches that has a lot of athletes as clients.
