V-Diet Support '06

at 170 pounds there is no way you have a good amount of LBM unless you are 5’3". This site is all about building muscle and losing fat once that is done. I didn’t start dieting until I was 209 pounds, and once I get off of the V-diet I will maintain that for a bit and then go right back into the muscle-building bulking cycle.

So… No, don’t do the V-diet if you weight 170 pounds unless you really want to get lean before you start bulking again.

I’m starting the V-Diet today. I have a significant amount of fat to lose (about 50 pounds). My plan is to do this diet for four weeks, then go off it for a few weeks, and maybe do it again. I don’t know how many of you read the T-Vixen support thread, but my work has a weight loss contest going on right now (it doesn’t end until the middle of April)…the prize for the person who loses the most weight is $600…I can’t really think of a better way to achieve my goals than the V-diet.

I’ve been really seriously watching my food intake, water consumption and exercise for the last 5 weeks and have already lost 11 pounds. My husband, BiggJames, used the calipers this last week on me and figured out my bodyfat. I have 122 lbm…so he says I’m working with a good base.

Hopefully the V-diet will work out for me. I attempted a half assed version of it last year, and I quit after 3 days, but then again I wasn’t using the fiber or the supplements either…so I had NO energy. And now I have the determination and will-power to stick to it.

Anyway, my question is this…do you guys get wired from the HOT-ROX? I seem to get pretty jittery from supplements like that. Right now I’m taking Fahrenheit, but I’m not sure if that has the same effect…I’m going to order some HOT-ROX and test it out. I just don’t want to be awake all night from all the caffeine.

Well, good luck to all of you who are on the diet. I’m curious to see how it goes for everyone.

Hey cheers for the reply. Well im 5’7 an i geuss what i have is not what you guys woudl call a high LBM but for me it is astronomical. Im a hardgainer and im looking better than i have ever don. This to me is amajor breakthrough and i would like to bulk down to see my new founded muscle in all its glory :p. I completely understand what you’re saying and i will of course continue building afterwards. Cheers again

Anyone thinking about doing V-diet please read:

I did the V-diet damn near a year ago and followed it to the T. Using only 3-4 weight workouts per week, I lost about 16lbs in 28 days.
After the V-diet and I went back to eating 3 healthy solid meals and 3 shakes (mostly for the sake of convenience). I increased my calories to 2400-2500 per day with one cheat day. The only excerise I added was long walks. The weight kept coming off as my physique filled in. I was down to a shredded 170 lbs.By the 8th week, I was absolutely ecstatic about the results and made plans to compete in my first powerlifting meet.

Even though ethusiasm was at an all time high, not even a week later, I began to gain weight. I noticed feeling colder, in general, and my interest in exercise was replaced with a nasty desire to gorge on food. Even when a friend of mine forced me through a tough GPP workout, he noticed I hardly broke a sweat. The workout included sprinting and farmer’s walks, stuff that is difficult to slack off while doing. I think this was due to suppressed thyroid from calorie restriction.

8 weeks later, I had gained back all the weight, especially around the waist.

I’m not making excuses for my rebound. I really hope it was the result of poor planning on my part because I would do it all again in a heartbeat if I knew I could keep it off.

I just want to warn people so to get ready to adopt good eating habits for life. Rebounding was an absolutley miserable experience, physically and mentally.

Anyone, planning on doing such a severe diet, please plan ahead! Not just getting through the diet but maintaining the losses.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Has anyone out there been able to keep the weight they lost during the V-Diet off permanently? If so, please share, because doubt the diet is powerful.

I heard the V diet makes you stink up the bathroom.

Agreed. However, if that 170 lbs LBM is covered with fat, I believe even Chris Shugart suggested that it makes more sense to strip off the fat before bulking.

Peel the paint off the walls.

Well thats sorted then, ill V-diet for 3/4 weeks and transition back into eating healthy. Hopefully this period of drinking just shakes will have taught me not to snack anyway so i should benifit even if i do gain some of the weight back like Robert Monti said he had. Any further advice before i start? Also how much is the shipping from T-Nation site to England? much appreciated guys cheers

halfpintdd,

Because HOT-ROX and Fahrenheit contain caffeine (albeit a small amount), it’s important that one not take their last dose or serving too close to bed.

Some will be able to take some just before bed and have no problems, some may also have to take their last dose 12 hours before bed.

Most however, will need to take their last dose around 8-10 hours before bed.

Hope that helps.

I become slightly wired from HOT-ROX but I’m hypersensitive to caffeine. If you get wired from 8-12 oz of coffee you will be wired from HOT-ROX. If you don’t you should not have much of a problem.

I would do the V-Diet for 6-8 weeks in your case.

No it won’t stay off permanently unless you adopt a Berardiesque eating style (just starting with lower calories).

I gorge on food after I do it too; I put 9 back on (after losing 23). It’s taken about the last of 3 weeks for my weight to stabilize and my metabolism to catch back up.

I think Post V-diet we all just need to up our activity level quite a bit…

Thank you Cy and ProteinPowda.

Powda: I did consider doing the diet for longer. However, I’m going to be going on vacation for my spring break in march which will probably hinder my ability to stay on the diet for that long. I have about 5 1/2 weeks before I leave. So depending on how it goes, maybe I’ll just take that week off then get right back on to finish out the contest. I plan on taking some Grow! with me when i’m gone so I can have two or three shakes a day and two small meals, that way I’m not completely blowing all my hard work.

Would it be bad for me to lose a lot of weight that fast? If I were to stay on it for 6-8 weeks, I’m afraid I would end up with saggy skin. As much as I’d love to have “instant” results, I wonder how healthy that would be. Any thoughts?

How fast you lose the weight won’t influence your saggy skin. How much fat you lose will.

Do the V-Diet til then and get RIGHT back on it the moment you’re back.

The problem with losing weight this fast is the increased # of insulin receptors present on adipocytes when you finish, along with a lower BMR caused by decreased thyroxin levels…among other things.

Hey all, just a quick question regarding the V-Diet. This is my second full week of the diet, and I’ve had absolutely no cheat meals; if anything, I’ve probably gone under the caloric intake I should be consuming. A good friend of mine whom I haven’t seen for about a year is coming this weekend and staying with me. I’ll still consume my morning and latter morning shakes; however, I know we’ll end up going out for either lunch/dinner since I’m sure he won’t be too keen on a protein shake for his meals.

Since I have been so stringent so far, do you think a few meals would be detrimental (I know a pounds willl go up, but that’s no matter since they’ll be lost soon anyway) Do you think my best bet would be to stay low carb for the most part since shakes will be out of the question or what are your other thoughts?

The last time I checked places still offered salads…They’ll even make them with no dressing if you ask nicely.
Suck it up.
If you’re not home to make a shake bring protein bars with you (and if you do not have any Metabolic Drive bars on hand go buy some other brand just to get you through the weekend and get some Metabolic Drive bars for next time b/c they taste amazing!)

Substitute a bar for a shake. Shugs did it.

It won’t be detrimental, but you will notice that your fat loss will slow down for a few days after eating. In my second round through the V-Diet, I was super-strict for the first week, and lost the usual 6 lbs of water weight. The second week I had a few solid meals in the evening (salads with chicken, lean ground turkey with broccoli, etc…) and noticed that the intake of solid food slowed my weight loss progress.

At the end of the second week, I’m only down 9 lbs from where I started. However, I’m positive that had I been super-strict and continued with just the shakes, my weight loss would likely have been more in the 11 lbs range. Needless to say, I’m still pleased with my results, but I have yet to read a post from someone who actually enjoys being on the V-Diet. Consequently, if you can stay super-strict, you’re better off doing so.

I semi enjoy the diet. I work a fair amount of the day as a waiter so its easy as hell to “eat” my 3rd,4th, and 5th meals when they are shakes.

After the 2nd week the shakes just become the food you’ve been eating and you don’t even think about it. It’s smooth sailing for me on the end of week 3 right now.

This doesn’t respond to any particular question in the thread, but I thought it might be helpful. From my experience with the V-Diet, if you start out at a high bodyfat percentage (say 16-20+ percent), you’ll probably need to cycle through two to three times until you reach a bodyfat percentage in the single digits.

The V-Diet is a great way to drop some initial bodyfat to see where you are in regards to lean muscle, thereby allowing you to bulk with some degree of reliability that you’re adding muscle, not fat.

True dat. I’m entering the low teens with the V-diet and I started at around 14 or 15% i believe. Shedding 12-15 pounds in a month is an awesome boost to the end of a cutting season.

And going out and getting fucked up…and looking good while you do it after the V-diet…
Priceless.
