As we all know, Lipo was pulled from the shelves due to Usnic Acid content. According to some, this was because the dose they suggested was 3X what is considered safe. In any case one company is out with a new fat burner containing Usnic Acid, and there is another company with a product on the way (2 weeks or so). Questions are: Is this stuff better than an ECA stack? As good as DNP without the “sides”? Better than T3? Most posters on the other boards say yes to the aforementioned ??. Any thoughts?
Why post two threads asking EXACTLY the same question? Perhaps you didn’t get the answer you were looking for the first time?
JRR: I have seen your posts on a couple of boards and you seem quite intelligent. Why in the hell would you want to put this crap in your body. See the article Brock wrote a while back.
I don’t think Brock’s article is the final word on this, and I don’t think it tells the whole story. In fact, it’s been specifically refuted by one MD online elsewhere, pointing to research that usnic acid is safe. It’s not “better than DNP,” but it is legal and has more positive research on it.
Akicita, I do know of one “MD” who refuted,
or claimed to refute, Brock’s article. He was involved in selling it, and was a guy, if I recall correctly, had been imprisoned for improprieties in his medical practice. Is this the guy you’re referring to, or was there a second MD? (I doubt it since I can’t
imagine anyone not having a financial interest in usnic acid promoting it as being safe except perhaps in amounts too low to be thermogenic.)
All I can say is that I’ve heard the two sides of the coin on usnic acid. Many say it is dangerous, others simply claim it’s a bs claim by companies who are afraid that another product is screwing up their sales. I will say this. I’m sure usnic acid does work and lives up to it’s claims of making your muscles produce more ATP so it might just replicate/mimic exercise (I’ve tried stuff like lipokinetix before, it works very well but my body feels like a toxic waste dump…it’s terrible…even though it is perhap the best fat burner, I don’t think I’d like to have that sickly feeling again, even if it comes at the expense of taking something less toxic/safer and less thermogenic. Whether or not the toxicity is caused by the usnic acid is uncertain. I’ve heard that it is and isn’t toxic. I will say this however. Considering there are many companies that market and sell products with usnic acid in them…then why hasn’t Biotest updated their product line and included it in their formula? It’s not like you can patent that dietary supplement, at least, I think you can’t. Biotest has many times, updated their products (and I don’t think it’s always been attributable to new FDA regulations). I can see the marketing advantage in this. The only reason I could see Biotest or other companies trashing usnic acid is because they are afraid that if they mimic other companies by putting in their products, then they would look like they developed the inferior formula etc…that doesn’t sound very likely. I suggest you do your own research and find an answer. I usually read medical studies and lab reports before I am convinced of what some dietary supplement company tells me. The companies only inform me of new “supposed ingredients” that work charms on your body if used properly in accordance with a good diet. I hope this helps you make an informed decision.
What are some of the products that contain Usnic Acid? Are they leagaly available at nutrtion stores?
