USAPL Raw Nationals

Just got done with a meet this past weekend down in Cleveland and next one on the radar is the first USAPL raw nationals in July. It would be my first national meet I’ve gone to. Just wondering if anyone else is planning on heading out there or might have any tips for me?

being from the st louis area, I will be there. I think there are probably atleast 20-30 lifters from StL going, most likely more.

I will probably head down to it depending on how many of the guys up here are going.

The best advice I can give you for your first National meet is open LIGHT. Just like your first full meet, the goal at your first Nationals is to get a total.

The nerves, judging, pace of the meet, etc. can really throw a lifter off.

Other than that, try to relax and have fun.

im going…hell yeah i got that bad boy marked all over the place! whats your class your competing in?

Yes I’ve always used that advice on opening light for the meets I’ve been in so far. I was planning on doing the same for this. Thanks for reminding me though, and telling me what my actual goal should be. I keep telling myself in my head to just go there, gain experience and get a total the first time but then there is this other little voice saying Win! Win! Go for PR’s! Just need to make sure I keep the REAL goal in mind.

181…for my height I should be in 198 or higher but am trying to stay in 181. Spent the last while trying to get my form on par, so I’m hoping the training the next few months for this gain me some much needed strength to compete in July.

Good luck in your training for it as well!

Hey, man. I am NOT telling you not to get PR’s or pull for the win. I am just telling you, in the event of a tough day, to make sure you get a total by being smart on your openers.

You seem to get it, anyway. Train hard and get it done.

hahah thanks man you too, lift big and put some big numbers on the board!

Good luck to everyone competing there. I will also be competing.

I’ll be there!

Good luck man. I was at the Pete Lanzi meet spectating and helping some people out, so I probably saw you lift.

Cool!

Good to see some other t-nationers going to the meet as well. 6 weeks to go and it will be here, hope everyone is trying to make the last weeks count like myself!

I’m about 6lbs over my weight class so I’m little worried there, but think with just some carb adjustments and extra water the last week I should be able to hit it pretty easy.

My wife and I will be going. She is competing.

My fiancee and I will be there- we’ll both be lifting on the Saturday of the meet.

I will be competing as well, on Sunday.

Just a little more than two weeks away. I am amped and ready to compete.

The anticipation is building…

My gf will be lifting Sat morn, and I’ll be lifting in the afternoon.

I’m only a couple lbs over now so I should be all set to make weight, but I’ve never done a weigh-in in the afternoon, any advice? I’m hoping they have the scale available so I can check it in the morning and make sure what I’ll be eating in the morning won’t notch me over. Any tips on food/water intake?

Also just as an FYI to everyone competing, I was told it will be in KG, not LBS. This is going to throw me off a bit since I am used to using LBS for attempts.

I found a chart that will come in handy for me though, and I usually have my estimated attempts written down beforehand anyway so that should help.

Since you’re only a couple pounds over you shouldn’t have much problem making weight. You should just cut back on your carbs and you will make it easily. I would monitor your weight every day to make sure you don’t loose too much weight. I would start with only 100 grams of carbs per day and see how it goes. If you need to, drop to 50 grams per day. I would limit your fluid intake until you weigh in. Be sure to not drop too much weight.

All USAPL meets are in kilos. They should have charts at the meet, but I would take a chart with you just in case. http://www.usaplnationals.com/kiloChart/kiloChart.html

Good luck to you and your girlfriend.

Thanks, that’s the plan right now, reduce the carbs and watch the water until I weigh-in.

Hmmm…I’ve done probably 6-8 meets the past few years and this will be the first one in kilos for me, so I don’t think all USAPL’s are kilos. I made up something in excel for my attempts and a chart so I have it with me. Should help with the hubbub going on.
