Unspeakable Evil

Seriously, dawg, you don’t need to convince your parents. Just tell them that you love them and appreciate their concern for you, but that you own your body and will eat whatever you want to eat, as long as it is purchased with your own money. Then get a part time job as ironbabe suggested and pay for your extra food that way.

Your parents may threaten you as they see themselves losing control over your life, but just be firm, and tell them no matter what happens, you are going to make the choices that you want to make – not the choices they think are best for you.

Now after you buy some food or protein powder, they may take it away from you, in which case you should explain that if they are going to take what you own without your consent, then you will retaliate by taking what they own without their consent. And make good on that promise. Go grab some food from the kitchen and feed it to the neighborhood dog.

Eventually your parents will come to see that you will not tolerate being treated as a slave.

My old man was the same way, (still is in fact at 80)Once told me “there’s no money in computers, get a real job like… plumbing” Lucky for me, I wasn’t listening. Keep your head up, try not to butt heads with em and train the best ya can for the next 6 months.

Yeah, DiPasquale is at York, but he was at U of T last time I checked, which I guess was 1998 or before. Dawg, he’s been in the nutrition/biochem buisness for 30yrs! Just ask your parents for 5min and see what they think (if you feel like digging up a copy of his book of course). Also, if you’re making your own money what makes them think they can decide what you spend it on? There’s also a thread about schooling & what it really means if you’re into that.

Dawg, I wont be satisfied until you are BIG DAWG again so we need to fix this pronto. Id go a simplified massive eating regime substituting food for shakes and not panicking about food combos cause they minimise fat gain more than anything. Tuna in oil in your room or locker for emergencies, cottage cheese and one serve protein shakes when you have access to them and can afford them. Any of these, and half chickens and 300 odd grams of beef are as good, if not better, than shakes. Just make sure you very subtely get 30-40 grams of protein every 3 hours or so and dont be shy about low gi/non starchy carbs and they will never know :). The only benefit of shakes are convenience and absorption a bit earlier. I think its right that you overcome this one. Good luck.

how about this, go back to your pediatrician, and say (in the tone of the guy on “Big Daddy”) Prove it. or tell your parents that. Fact is atleast on the protein part there is NOTHING that shows a link between high protein and kidney problems WITH PEOPLE WITH HEALTHY KIDNEYS. Tell them to find one study, just one. I gaurantee they wont.

Sounds like a bad scene bro. I’d say leave home ASAP, however if you must stay try leaving some protein powder or MRPs at a nearby freinds house. When you want a shake go over there mix up and drink it down, back in HS I did this only it was with…well not protein shakes and it worked fine. Keep us posted, outlaw.

Hey Porch Dawg - man, if you were in my area I’d help ya personally bud…! My heart goes out to you man. Anyways… although a lot of people might scoff at this (your parents included), try showing them the EAS/MM documentary Body Of Life. It’s got real-world people, proper ‘doctors’ opinions, all the correct principles are spoken about, and it’s a bit of a tear jerker for some… and it’s also aimed at the ‘average Joes’ of the world… i.e. you parents. Try and run it by them. May even want to print out this thread and give it to them. Just in case you do, I’d like to say to Porch Dawgs parents - You’re wrong! Doctors in general don’t know a damn thing! Open your minds to something that your son obviously knows A LOT about through hours of hard study of CUTTING EDGE (not dated doctor crap) information from sporting/scientific professionals! Cheers, Mark-AUS

DAWG!!! I FEEL YOU MAN!!! Just yesterday night,AGAIN,my mom saw me grabbing some food, and started making noise and saying that I will be fat if I eat so much, and I was pissed. She objects me drinking my protein shakes at first but I took her to the gym store and she asked the guy there if it was ok to take the protein,he said OK(of course!) but she was not so nuts as to go looking for doctors…once,I tried to buy grapejuice for postworkout, she made a hecka lotta noise about it,saying the coloring will kill me etc etc…
I was PISSED AGAIN!“I AM FRIGGIN USING MY MONEY ON ALL THE SHIT I BUY FOR MY BODY AND I AM NOT USING STEROIDS”,that’s what I wanna tell her but I had more respect that to say that.Anyway,my dad is all cool with it,he even sat down with me when I rambled on about calorie intake, thankfully he’s cool with it.

But my mom still has her doubts and I am not going to stop eating etc etc.She objected me taking so many meals a day(6) but I didn’t care.Sometimes I have to go HEB on the way to get some “TV Dinner” meals like Boston Market etc.
I,of course, try to choose wisely on which to buy, knowing how much protein my meal should be etc etc.,anyway, just telling ya that I am sure many other ppl have the same deal with u.
MY MOM IS AFRAID I WILL LOOK LIKE A FRIGGIN
STEROID-USING PRO BB!!! I was like,“WTF??! LMAO!!NO WAY!” (I don’t intend to use roids and I don’t intend to look like a huge pro BB)

Good luck!

Well, I’d suggest you find a non-commercial, non-profit source of information backing high protein diets as healthy and show that to your moms. Otherwise, it is too easy to point out that the source has its own interests in encouraging high protein intake (marketing).

Man Alive, that sucks, my parents were separated when I was young, and my mom wanted to have the biggest kids she could, so she fed the hell out of us and backed us in all our athletic and weightlifting endeavours as much as is humanly possible, and she also lifts weights now, my brothers and I and my mother all, as a result have above average builds. However, my father who is a big guy, but somewhere in the sixties and seventies was apparently misinformed, is totally against my lifting and eating extra protein, and what have you. As he believes that a set of 40 push-ups twice a week, 20 sit-ups, step aerobics, a Pizza and six beers is the key to unlocking a great body, long story short, all he does is complain about his body and the tractor tire around his mid-section, well maybe it’s closer in shape to an atlas stone fused to the inside of his spine. And everytime I see him, all he can say is, man hopefully someday I can get my body like yours, at which time I begin to explain how he could go about it, he then stops me at the first mention of iron and starts ranting about getting bulky and “Musclebound” and totally disregards me standing there as proof to the contrary. Sorry for the length and lack of punctuation, this is really just a giant pet peeve of mine, as it has been a 5 year project now to get my dad in the gym, yet he gets up in the morning and drinks his coffee and eats cookies and watches Bodyshaping for his exercise for the day. But like you Dawg, he still knows much more than me in regards to fitness. Good Luck man.

wow… thats the damnedest bullshit ive ever heard… fuck em … fuck em hard… haha

If I can just remember to listen to my kids when they get old enough to think for themselves. I don’t want to forget that. I don’t want to equate knowledge with age - wisdom, sure, but not knowledge.

Damn that is tough.
Why I can’t directly relate to you I know that this type of dis-information can really have an effect on. During college I coldn’t decide what I wanted to do with my life so after a general nutrition class I decided that I wanted to be a Dietician. I took all of the chemistry and Home Economics classes that were required. I learned all of the metabolic pathways and even had to take organic chemistry. Little did I know that people in this profession are more concerened with what the ADA (American Dietetic Assoc) has to say than what hard facts prove. Well I got the degree but haven’t used it one lick. I had a hard time getting along with my advisor a 50 yr old obese woman who wouldn’t listen to the my verison of High Protein Diets and how that the LOW FAT Craze was actually killing the American Diet.

Try the eatprotein.com web site. This is the Dr Eades’ webside (husband and wife team that have the protein power diet plan). There books have a lot of good info. supported by personal experience and their own weight loss clinic. The info is geared toward weight loss while maintaining muscle. You will find good information supported by doctors endorsing a high protein diet. Hope this helps. Educating your parents is your best hope until you leave the nest.

I think it is time to get off the sugar titty and let your nuts drop!! and tell mom and dad to fuck off.

If you’re 17 1/2, why would your parents send you to a pediatrician? You’re not a child! That was their FIRST mistake!

Colin - Dr. DiPasquale IS from the University of Toronto. Either that or his books are lying.

I go through the same thing with my parents. Luckily, I’m away in college so they don’t know how much I am abusing my kidneys (yeah whatever! I know). Altough when I’m at home for the holidays and summertime, I have to be really creative. Since both my parents are vegetarians, it makes it even harder since I can’t have even a slice of meat in the fridge. What I do is hide containers of protein powder in my room where my parents can’t find them, even if they do decide to snoop around and go trough my stuff. When I was younger, I used to do this with my stash of Playboys. Whenever it’s time for a shake, I lock myself in my room, turn the TV (or radio) on, and make me a shake. I prefer the shakes made by max muscle that you can only get in their stores. The reason why is they don’t use gums, so it’s much easier to prepare. All you need to do is mix it in a shaker bottle for 20 seconds and that’s it. Ever try making a myoplex without using a blender? Pretty nasty I know. Slam the shake down and you got a meal. I then take the cup I drank out of into the bathroom and rinse it there (make sure the fan is on). It takes me a week to go through a 5 pound tub. Even though the powders made by max muscle don’t taste so great, I use them because when I make a shake, I want to be finished with it as quickly as possible. That way I don’t cause any suspicion. I get paranoid as hell when I do this. What sucks is you’re gonna have to replace more real foods with shakes because shakes are so easy to sneak around. Remember, it’s your body and you have every right to make it look the way you want it. Don’t let your doctor and parents stop you from it either. Just give them the impression you stopped living the bodybuilding lifestyle when in fact you havent. Hehe.

Bro, I feel for you. Keep your head up and keep fighting the good fight. My 'rents were totally supportive of my endeavours. In fact, my old man subsidized my “habit.” I remember being in 6th grade, eating that nasty Joe Weider protein …

However, you are not without blame. It sounds like you’re not living as independently as you could be. My first move would be to join the National Guard. This would provide you with both spending money, and money for college. In some states, you get 100% tuition assistance at at state-supported university. You also get a $250 - $500 monthly G.I. Bill check. The National Guard is not for everyone, but it does off a way out. This is what you need, a way out.

Living with the fam is not easy. In fact, if you spend too much time there, you will begin to hate them so much that you become tempted to sever the relationship completely. Don't let it come to that. Just ... like I said ... keep your head up and find a way out. If you need help with a "life plan" (no, not bullshit Robbins stuff, but real substance), I'll gladly help you. I paid my own way through college, and am going to law school on a scholarship. And yeah, I'm in the National Guard: I'm a Second Lieutenant. Believe me, it's worth it.

DiPasquale left U of T in 1998. All it takes is a simple search on google.
