I am 16, and go to a boarding school. My parents just got me a full size fridge for my room, and have told me that they will pay for any healthy foods I buy from the local grocery store (Thrifties).
Any ideas on why I should buy? I’m going to aim for 4000 caleries a day. Including school meals.
I get three meals a day at school, but they are pretty pinner.
No, I don’t have a kitchen.
I can try to get a hot plate, I don’t know if I would be allowed though because of fire safety (…it’s pretty lame).
What kind of foods would be good to get that I wouldn’t need to cook?

Get a bunch of filet mignon and make lots of steak tartare!
Oranges
Blueberries
Celery
Eggs
Egg Whites
Broccoli
Milk (provided you can stomach it)
Salsa
Red Meat is you can find a way to cook it
Chicken (same as above)
Do you have a microwave?
If you do you can put the eggs and egg whites on a plate and nuke for a few minutes, then top with Salsa and whatever else you like, it tastes great and I lived off them while in college.
I agree with the rice cooker/crockpot suggestion. Anything you can make in a pot on a stove you can make in a rice cooker - porridge, stew, chili, soup, even an omelette.
The crockpot is safe to leave on when you’re not in your room, but I wouldn’t leave a rice cooker on (unless it’s on thermo keeping cooked food warm) as they can overcook (things spill over etc). Learned that the hard way, but luckily I was in my room and managed to stop before it got too bad.
I’m not going to be able to get any cooking supplies for at least a couple weeks. In the mean time what should I buy for breakfasts? I only like my eggs scrambled, haha, so no eggs for a while.
This morning I just had turkey breast and whole wheat bread. I was thinking about getting some yogurt too. I just got my shipment of supplements from T-Nation as well. So I am going to start taking Metabolic Drive in the morning.
LOL “pinner” I haven’t heard that word since I was a huge pothead in high school. Oh, and as far as food goes, I’d hit up the lunch meats hard!! I’d also get some avocadoes, albacore and beef jerky (that shit’s expensive).

Beef Jerky? Is that stuff healthy?[/quote]
If you make your own, you literally control what’s in it. So yeah. FWIW - I tried making my own and the dehydrator I got made it taste like crap - ut I have a friend with a different brand (but still cheap) dehydrator and it comes out perfect. I have him make it for me 15# at a time (using ground meat, pumping it out of a cookie gun into flat strips). It will keep in the fridge for a very long time without preservatives.
Try some with garlic and / or teriyaki in the mix - but a little goes a long way!
Don’t use any kind of store-made mix or marinade - all you’re gonna get is salt, and possibly MSG
I eat it with a fresh apple and it’s really, really good, and totally portable.
Try some fruits and veggies.
Add some skim milk.
Yogurt ain’t bad but look for a higher protein variety or add in a bit of Metabolic Drive.
Cottage cheese is a must (low fat or 2%).
Once every couple of days I’d see if I couldn’t get my hands on some real meat that won’t taste like ass when eaten cold (ham, turkey breast, grilled chicken). Maybe a local store or B-B-Q has a “meats” deal. Skip out on most of the sauces.
i managed to get away with an electric grill at school as long was it was in the common area when i cooked. But as for extra calories, its doesn’t beat old school…Squats and Milk. I posted this for someone else to; if you can swing it, date someone in the caf, you get way more food and its usually cheaper. cashiers work best. that way you dont have to do so much of your own prep
