Along with the tear I also have marrow oaedema in the lateral end of the clavicle, with capsular thickening present and an old AC joint sublaxation, Grade 1.
Also minor thickening of the sub deltoid bursa.
The Labral tear is “extending from 4’oclock to 4 o’clock” (not sure what that means, it’s just in one spot?) and there are no lesions.
Doctor says 8 weeks without any upper body exertion, though no need to sling the arm. Following that begin rehab for a few weeks.
Does this seem reasonable or unnecessarily conservative?
I’m about day 10 since the worst of the pain, 20 since it began.
I was hoping to begin rehab once I’m fully pain free with full ROM, rather than the arbitrary date of 8 weeks.
In a perfect world I’d like to be able to play in a (non-contact) road hockey tournament on day 28 after the worst of the injury.
Suggestions on this time line or general rehabilitation strategies?

Not sure why he is holding rehab 8 weeks at all, im perplexed, I’d like to hear the answer to be honest.

He basically said “That’s what doctors say now. 8 weeks nothing, then do half what you usually do for a week, then back to normal after that.”
Which blew my mind. Even without an injury I couldn’t regain all of my strength in 2 weeks after 8 off.
I’ve worked out legs for the past 2-3 weeks and started some light Band work today. Iced and took a anti-inflam after the workout. No new pain so far.
Only pain that every comes up is with compound overhead movements (ex taking a shirt off). Definitely feel a ton of weakness though with the bands. [/quote]
sounds like awful advice, id be rehabbing the crap out of it if it was me, just avoiding loading to the posterior labrum
Labral tears are no joke. Is your doctor a PCP/doc in the box or an ortho? If anything, you’re asking for adhesive capsulitis aka frozen shoulder. I’d get a second opinion ASAP. The fact that you’ve got prior hx of problems in the shoulder as well as an actual tear… Yeah. Go to another MD or DO (osteopath).
I don’t expect any positive answers but here goes:
12 January I ah…landed from a five meter fall and sustained the following injuries:
Right tibial compound fracture, right fibula fracture, multiple bones in both feet broken(mostly metatarsal). Tibial nail inserted from the right patella to the ankle. Plates in the right ankle with multiple screws. Right foot operated on as well as right leg. Left foot should have been operated on but the doctors screwed up the X-ray and had me hopping on a broken foot with crutches. After another Xray of my left foot they announced that I had a fracture that ‘may’ need surgery as the bones were ‘displaced’, I think is the word they used. They mentioned arthritis. My understanding is that the bones were not set and the calcified growth has to reform to rejoin the break.
I should be on crutches and wearing two cam boots. The moment I mobilised I got rid of them and have been walking unaided ever since. It may seem strange but I force myself to walk fast and I could never use walking aids: It makes me feel like I am displaying weakness. I can’t stand being thought of as weak.
Right now I can walk a kilometre or so before really bad pain on the soles of my feet, the top of my left foot and where the tibial nail sticks into the lower tendon joining the patella to the tibia.
Previous injuries: Bulging lumbar discs seem to be getting better. Compound fracture of t10 thoracic vertebrae seems to be getting worse. Two separate fractures of the sternum - not much trouble from them nor my broken finger.
Six weeks laying in a hospital bed caused so much muscle wastage of my quads and hams that I lost three years of training literally. Realistically, what can I do to recondition myself. My rehab is hopeless BTW.

massive amounts of NMES at multiple angles (isometric) should help ya out, 4 pads on the quads get a prescription for a home unit

Great points, hopefully this helps with my posterior labral tear.

He was just some clinic doctor, definitely not his specialty.
What about his reccommendation suggests to you I’d develop frozen shoulder. Is that more likely to occur from over use or atrophy?
