Underrated Bodybuilders Past & Present

Darry Thorton was another beast I ran into back in Phoenix…kind of underated in my book.

Don

Phil Hernon for a mid 90s candidate. Had he stayed in bodybuilding for a few more years he would have been a serious threat.

Not exactly an unknown or anything, but Shawn Ray never gets mentioned…

First name that came to mind was Don without a doubt, he’s a favorite of mine from that era. It’s Howorth though… see the guy still gets no respect lol

Ahhh. The Intense-Muscle avatar.

I wanna see Johnnie Jackson do better. He doesn’t have the most complete physique but he’s strong and knows how to train hard.

Thierry Pastel. i don’t think he ever won an ifbb contest
Thierry had a great shape, almost ballon muscle shape. Another guy who never get mentions is Bertil Fox, he was a beast, thick and strong.

I was thinking Bertil Fox too.

Can’t believe Dave never got his pro card.

Jusup Wilkosz, a regular training partner of Arnold’s and (I believe) one of the few pro bodybuilders over 6’ tall.

In his 50’s, holding his own next to a retired Dorian Yates.

There’s a bodybuilding “disease” named after him lol, there are some reasons why he never went pro.

You mean Palumboism? Pretty funny but also pretty interesting. Was that him on Conan O’Brien the other night as the Incredible Hulk? If it was he is looking pretty good.

Wow, good call. Seem like I’ve only heard of him one time before…definitely underrated.

Personal Fave, Dave Fisher.

Great thread. Lets get some real good pics up to inspire to more realistic goals. I’ll see what I can find.
More realistic? What the fuck do you mean by that? It’s not like these guys photoshopped their muscles on.

Tom Platz did’t win a single pro show.

you dumb ass. What i mean is some more realistic goals from a classic era of bodybuilding, that are more in line with what genetically average trainers can aspire to, rather than the mainstream hyper drug fuelled pros we have now.

I understand some on here do not like to hear the term genetics on this site, and alot of people seem to think if you are realistic, then you are an under achiever. For some reason it takes many years to realise in this sport that genetics play a huge role. We are just spoon fed from magazines and supplement companies that we can gain, gain and gain again if we choose right supplements.

So by getting pics from a by-gone era we can see nearer to what realistic gains one can expect.

Get it???!

Go look at www.classicbodybuilders.com

Some great pics here. Far mor realistic to aspire to…
