Chaz, if you want, there are some of us competing April 2nd at the Georgia State meet through the SPF. Not sure how far you’re out of Atlanta but it’d be pretty cool to get a bunch of T-Nation people together at that meet. Be our own “team”[/quote]
Sounds like a plan. I live out in McDonough so not that far. PM me and let me know what I need to do (never competed).

haha i try, you’re not to far off a good 181 total… as soon as you do a full meet lol
165 here. I hit 335/225/445 at a non sanctioned meet at my school which are my PRs. What do you lighter guys do for squat routine?
I went ahead and tested my previous max 3 months ago. I was wondering if I could get a critique? Depth?
Video doesn’t seem to be working.

You could go a little deeper. That looked pretty easy though so I bet you could sink it if need be.
Multiply 198’er here.
Best meet lifts so far…
Squat 766
Bench 611
Deadlift 567
Deadlift needs some work, but I suppose my short arms are also why my bench is good, so can’t complain too much.
I’ve done 1 meet a 220 and did 727/628/578. Also hit 605 pull in the gym, but my hands always swell after bench, I’ve learned I need to start icing them between bench and deadlift so I can grip right.

An inch or two deeper will be perfect. Form looked good, thats obviously not your max anymore, kudos.
Depth as most have said Chaz. Also you could get way tighter in your upper and lower back.
Got it, thanks guys.

chazdaman, your squat looked good except for a couple small things. First I compliment you on not wasting time and energy on the setup. Too many guys dance around for too long and take too many steps back, yours was quick and to the point. The shoes look like they are flat soled and decent for squatting, that is good too. I would get in some shorts over the pants if possible, they are almost at a length that can get caught on the heel of those shoes. Your depth was decent, but it could definately stand to be deeper. I’m not saying you have to sit your butt on your calves but you are putting on the brakes a little shy of good depth. It also appears as though you aren’t keeping your eyes up. When you come out of the whole you had some forward lean that can often be fixed by focusing your eyes higher. As for hitting depth you could work some light pause squats or some good box squats to get your body used to a good depth. Hope some of that helped, good luck.
Why are you squatting out of the rack instead of inside it?
Thanks jsmiley, I do need to keep my eyes up, there’s a mirror in front of me so I have a problem with looking at my depth instead of eyes up. Also I built a box I plan on using this week.
@ steve: The damn rack I bought isn’t tall enough for OHP so I get tired of moving the bar in and out.
82,5kg/181lbs
raw max:
sq: 170kg/375lbs
bp: 130kg/285lbs
dl: 215kg/475lbs
im doing my first meet at the end of may, dl-only. i think about dieting down to -75kg and hit a triple-bodyewight-dl.
right now im doing the coan/philippi-dl-routine, week8. after i finish the cycle ill start with the juggernaut-method.
Awesome day in the gym for me. Hit a 50 lb PR on incline bench (hadn’t done it in awhile) with 275 for two singles. Also tried doing 5 board presses for the first time and these were awesome. I was pretty exhausted after the incline pressing but I managed to get 315 for 2, 225 for 11 (all paused), and than I moved the grip into CGP and hit 6 on the pause. Definitely happy with my pressing for the day.

Way to go man. What made you do inclines all the sudden?

Scoops you are just making everyone in this thread look weak.

I would either take the mirror down or pull the squat rack out and face the opposite way. I have found if you ever plan on doing a competition you need to get used to facing out to a crowd. It just feels different having to pick a spot in the distance rather than one several feet in front of you. You have judges in front of you, a crowd, etc. Make sure the box is too tall rather than too short, don’t just make it at parallel. To update my progress I have hit 445x5 squat, 320x6 bench, 445x5 deadlift this week belt only at 190lb. Progress on 5/3/1 is going well.

Strained my bicep 2 weeks ago doing floor presses so after a deload week (where I did absolutely nothing at all other than some conditioning) I decided to make Incline Press my ME movement this wave since it’s the movement I’ve always done the least amount of weight in for pressing. I figured less weight would put less strain on my bicep, little did I know I’d set a PR close to my flat bench haha. Either way bicep is only mildly sore right now but all and all just happy about the day.
