Uncooked Oatmeal

Yall cant be fucking serious. Eating raw oatmeal gives you cancer? This is crazy. do you really think that eating raw oatmeal a couple of times per day is gonna kill you? Lets do this. Lets not eat oatmeal, not use cell phones, not use microwaves, get rid of SUVs, and every other thing in the world that might make us sick. Sometimes people cant see the forest because of the trees.

Don’t fuck with Goldberg. Ya don’t wanna mess with a man from Georgia.

As far as the oats, just take some tums with your oatmeal and that phytic acid is no longer a problem.

Dance

I have absolutely no comment on oatmeal; however, I can say that those kettlebells are fucking heavy.

Dude.

Dose Keetilbills are reeeel reeel fucinkg HEavEE!!!

Oats rool.

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of any toxins in uncooked oatmeal.

But, I did hear that Goldberg’s turds were the size of Jeff Rage when he eats Oatmeal!!

And dude,
Those kettlebells are fucking heavy.

I have no comment at this time; however, I can say that the kettlebells are fucking heavy.

That is all. Dude.

Dude, fucking heavy. Dude.

I’m trying to figure out how this thread got 60 posts.

Youre damn right about the dirty south. Ask Landon. hahahhahaha.

Patricia, Joel, Ko, Rumbach and Kong,
I am disappointed to see that you have taken such a flippant attitude to something so serious!

Why just yesterday I had to forgo a training session because I realised that I had eaten UNCOOKED oatmeal, (insert gasps of shock and horror). I have asked forgiveness of the colon gods and drank 3 glasees of metamucil as penance.

BTW are those kettlebells THAT heavy

I never said raw oatmeal gives you cancer, I just pointed out that the “toxins” that kept getting mentioned were most likely the anti nutrients present in oats.

Hyphnz,

I can catagorically deny any claims of the kettlebells being light. Quite the contrary.

The are, in fact, quite fuckin’ heavy.

Dude.

“Like other grains and vegetable products, oats contain hundreds of phytochemicals or plant chemicals that area currently being studies for their protective properties against chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Whole grains including oats are concentrated sources of antioxidants, substances that delay the onset or slow down the rate of oxidation in the body. Antioxidants in whole grains include vitamins (vitamins E, beta-carotene), trace minerals which are components of enzymes performing antioxidant functions (selenium, copper, zinc, and manganese), and nonnutrients such as phenolic compounds (phytoestrogens, phenolic acids) and antinutrients (phytic acid).”

So, besides protein, fiber, low GI carbs and a bunch of good things oatmeal has some phytic acid in it. On the balance are there enough phytochemicals in it to offset the “devestating” effects of the phytic acid? I guess it’s hard for me to say but it looks like one or two of us are looking at one teeny weeny bit of bad news and deciding the rest of the story is immaterial. If you look at foods that way you will starve. Almost every food source has something about it that just ain’t all that good for you in it somewhere.

I guess that’s why we should eat a varied and balanced diet, huh?

I’m low carbing so I’m getting my fiber from salad and green beans and ground flax seeds but by the end of the month I’ll be eating my steamed rolled oats and protein drink for breakfast again.

Ah, Dave and Goldberg bring some sanity to one of the most rediculous threads I’ve seen in a while…

I must be dieing, I’ve eaten oatmeal daily for about 10 years straight. Some people need to get out from infront of their computer screens.

I eat carrots, some day I will die, so carrots cause death in 100% of people who eat them.

Restless,

To be honestI can’t explain how the phytic acids get deactivated. I assume it’s quite a complicated chemical process. It has to do with fermentation in the presence of a lacto fermented product. Fallon claims that grains are perfectly healthy if properly soaked in this manner. My current stance is to minimize grains but should I use them I’d adopt those techniques. I recommend the book though, I think you’d like it. Mercola is a fan of Fallon’s, I believe.

Goldberg,

It’s not about oatmeal causing cancer although the impact of grains is not to be underestimated. The point is that if you don’t enjoy a particular conversion you don’t have to fucking read it. It doesn’t always have to be about how much weight you can lift. I can understand perfectly well that people wouldn’t want to dwelve outside of their preconceived ideas but that doesn’t mean others can’t discuss it. For the most part, I must say I’m just curious about the matter.

Dirty South bitches !!! believe that.

Goldberg is so fucking georgia, just like worrying about oatmeal is so get the fuck out of here!!!

Zulu-and by the very same token i can make the comment that what you are discussing is minutia. I seem to not be the only one that thinks that.

Zulu, I found there are some mentions in mercola’s site to soaking reducing phytic acid content so that might be true.

Like someone said, these anti nutrients are not really a concern with moderate intakes of grains.

Anyway, the take home message is that eating raw grains/cereals is not the best course of action. They do require quite a bit of processing before being usable to humans.

The only populations in the world who have problems with phytic acid are certain areas in africa, and also certain areas in mexico (maize). Any binding effect of nutrients dont matter if you are actually getting a decent source of nutrients in the first place. In a western or meat eating society, its as golberg said, minuta. So arguing abouit sprouting hte grain means little, becuase even tho it works (and is actively educated to some areas) it means little to the vast majority of the world.

I’m a little disappointed in the regular forum members trolling this thread and the mods allowing them to do it. It might not be the most important topic but it is a topic that interests the persons discussing it.
