Hey QQ

I’ve got a chronic condition of Eating Even When I’m Not Hungry/Eating Too Much All The Time, making leaning out difficult. I’m aware this is a 100% self-imposed situation, but I’ve gotta break out of it. I’m a snacker, and I like to turn snacks into meals with my shitty eating habits.

Simply put: I’ve got a bad relationship with food and I’m curious if you have any recommendations on literature/videos/other resources that could help me address this. (asking here because I’m probably not alone with this “condition”).

Well, this is more of a psychological thing. Old habits die hard… You need to get to the root of WHY you make the choices you make? WHY are you eating? I tell my clients that if they think they want something because they’re “hungry” then their option is plain veggies - eat as many as you want. If veggies don’t sound good - you’re not hungry. You’re bored, you’re tired, you need water, you’re trying not to feel something. You gotta get real with yourself. Are you worth more than that cookie or extra slice of pizza? If the answer is yes, step away from the table. If the answer is no, you may need some therapy to figure out why you feel that way.

Sorry, no easy “fix” there, but we gotta keep it real up in here, right??

You bring up a lot of good points, most importantly i think (for me) is using veggies for snacks… i seem to always do best when i practice this so maybe i need more of that.

Thank you for the input, it’s always valued.

Idk if the locations stock similarly where you are, but anything from D19, (deli/made to order), is freaking amazing. We keep roast beef, curry chicken, pork katsu, etc. stocked year round.

I’m for sure going to go check now to see if it’s standard. Thanks!

Lmao! Underrated joke.

Eat or beat and eat. Either way, good protein I hear.

re literature Tom Venuto’s The Body Fat Solution book goes into great detail on how to end emotional eating. Great book overall highly recommend.

I’ve been 99% compliant so far on my diet plan. I’ve got a pub dinner out with mates tonight but I’ve budgeted 1,700 calories for that meal (it’s a steak and ribs place). So hopefully use all of that on food.

I’m starving today eating shakes, an apple and egg whites though.

Also not drank any alcohol since the 2nd January which is a big think for me. I’m not drinking until the 21 Jan when I’ve got a rugby club dinner which I have to drink at.

I tell myself I have to drink at those kinds of things too. What I DON’T need to go and do is find another bar after everyone else has gone home.

Those steak meals can carry a ton of calories in those triple-cooked chips. Never know how many calories are in those things. Swapping for a jacket potato would be a level of discipline that could make you win this thing.

The once thing about being old is I don’t want to go to the next bar. Three drinks and I feel like garbage the next day anyway (which still doesn’t stop me, but oh well).

@rugby_lifting I think you’re on it, dude. You’re budgeting so you can still live life.

I don’t want to go out drinking at all these days. My problem is once i’ve had those three drinks, I can’t stop.

And he’s right @rugby_lifting . Nights and meals like that I think actually aid adherrence if you’re of the right mentality like you are. I can’t imagine you want to switch your regular tipple to vodka and tonic water. :upside_down_face:

I wish I could still drink these days, but I’m an alcoholic. I suppose there is a silver lining in it - I stopped drinking 10 years ago (cold turkey) and never looked back. Lost so much weight, much more money in my pocket, etc. When I’d go out, I didn’t know anything between 0% and 100% (similar to the quote by Dorian Yates when it came to his training). If I had 3 beers and then went home, I’d take a five hour nap and feel groggy. To avoid that, I just thought to myself “get completely and utterly blackout drunk.” Never good. I’d bring a bottle of gin out with me, clear through that, keep drinking beer, and then the next morning, pour myself a tall glass of Seagram’s 7 on the rocks.

I will say, however, I support people if they want to drink. I encourage it if it gives them a good time and they don’t hurt anybody. Not trying to say “alcohol is bad for you!” and ram that down people’s throats lol.

Good on you for recognizing the problem and taking action! That’s incredibly difficult, as we can see in the world.

Thank you for sharing this.

I have barely drank at all in around 2 years, maybe 3. Just one drink on rare social or family occasions since then.
But the fat loss that came with giving up beer has been made up for from other, sneakier sources. The money spent on beer gets spent on something else, god knows what. More beef lol.
I was never prone to excess though. Early in covid it became a habit so i quit while it was easy to quit.
