Ultimate Fighter 3 on SpikeTV

I was not impressed by the fight or the scoring.

Both guys were way out of shape and neither showed much skill.

They honestly looked like they just started training a few months ago.

Tait looked like he practiced BJJ a few times and the other dude looked like he did not have a clue.

Sometimes matchups where one guy is dominate on his feet and the other guy is dominate on the ground leads to awkward fights such as this one. Tait was obviously more comfortable on the ground but sought ot neutralize the standup by clinching while the other guy was a fish out’ve water on the ground and sought to neutralize by keeping his arms in while in the guard. I do think it is obvious that Tito’s training methods are working, two weeks ago and that guy gets submitted easily.

Absolutely. Shamrock’s team is in for a world of hurt.

I predict Ed comes in too cocky, doesn’t end it in the first, get’s gassed and loses in the second.

It will be interesting to see.

Possible spoiler…

I’m glad you were wrong.

And as far as the Tait fight, they shoulda resolved on the guy with the LEAST broken face for the win, IMO. But I guess it doesn’t work that way.

Wow. Once again I amaze myslef with lack of thought. To my credit, I did write that kinda late.

Wow, that was possibly the shittiest fight ever. Danny was a little too excited about his “moral” victory. Claiming he was an Ultimate Fighter?
That was funny…Tito was not thrilled by that.

I don’t think a guest appearance by Fedor and Chasey Lain could save this season…AND I KEEP FUCKING WATCHING IT!!!

I agree that was a shitty fight…
and i knew Danny would go home, but what surprised me was all the shit ed was talking and then to come away with a lackluster win, left me thinking he was just another big mouth shit talker

I’m still reserving judgement on Ed. He wasn’t challenged at all and was a little rusty. He does plan on “hitting Tito in the face”…oh Ed! Behave!

Ya, the way everyone was talking I was expecting Ed to end the fight quick. It was obvious Danny was way outmatched, yet Ed still needed Danny to practically give him his arm in order to end the fight.

What a dissapointment. ‘im the best, i have the greatest heart, blah blah blah.’

Ive seen better scuffles, and to be fair thats all it was, in my local town.

When will the high levels of bullshit and trash talk stop and the real fights begin?

Matt v Mike better be good next week…

Still better than series 2 though.

Who is that Ed dude? Is he a famous fighter? The way he was talking smack last night was appalling. I was desperately hoping that he would get his ass kicked.

The sad thing is Ed didn’t really have to work hard to win. Danny gave him no fight. All that talk about heart, please. All he did was try to not get hit.

He supposedly has like a 14-2 “professional” record (prior to the fight last night) and was somewhat known by a few of the guys in the UFC. I’m sure there is more to it, but I honestly forgot. I try and forget all the dramatic BS.

All I know is he’s all butt-hurt that Ortiz didn’t pick him for his team, and apparently Ortiz has been kicking himself for not picking him as well. Guess that means something…

I wouldn’t go so far as to call him ‘famous’, but he is defintely a quality fighter. He already has wins over two UFC veterans (Dave Menne, Nick Thompson) and one of the top fighters in Europe (Brian Ebersole). Herman would have been in the UFC soon with or without his appearance on TUF.

Wow, that was ugly as hell. Matt is UGLY on his feet. He looks like a slow, weak, drunk Mark Hunt with his hands on his hips and leaning forward. He doesn’t look he knows how to put his whole game together. It was only one fight, but I don’t think Matt is going to live up to the hype. All the explosiveness and aggression he showed in training went out the window.

Keep in mind that he has only been training standup & BJJ for about six months. He is a greco/freestyle wrestling stud, but felt that he couldn’t use those skills with a hyperextended elbow.

I was impressed to see the guy had the balls to try and stand up. Most neophyte MMA guys with a strong wrestling background would have just tried to lay & pray their way to a decision. Hamill’s willingness to test his standup skills (even if they are raw as hell) bodes well for his development as a fighter.

I agree that it took some guts to asses himself and change his game plan to address his weaknesses and his opponents strenghts. Mirco could take a lesson from Matt on that.

That was the sloppiest fight i’ve ever seen. I can understand the lack of “Boxxing” skills from Matt, but Mike looked terrable. He walked in with a fixed game plan and couldn’t adapt. It was painfull to watch him get picked appart by Matt’s sloppy jab for two rounds. Both fighters looked so bad i’d have called it a draw and gone for the third round.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Matt and the trip to the hospital. I kinda wonder if Matt ended up treating the show like it was a wresteling camp, busted his ass training, and forgot he had to fight at some point. It looked like he left it all in the ring, the only problem was it was the training ring.

As far as Ed goes, I chalk his lackluster performance up to ring rust. I’m not sure when the show was taped, but his last official pro fight was Extreme Challenge 63 in July of 2005. Given that they watched UFC 57 which was February 2006, that’s over 7 months between fights.

I agree i think Mike looked terrible…
they talk so much shit and then they look like little girls out in the ring.
he was throwing windmill like punches with HIS EYES CLOSED… how bad is that…

matt didnt look fantastic, but i feel like he imposed his will on mike…
sooo good for matt.

Are you telling me you weren’t impressed by his ‘stare and the floor and imitate a windmill’ technique?

I am shocked.

One thing I realized is how much of a handicap being deaf really is for Matt in the ring. Shamrock could just scream moves to Mike (who didn’t listen at all) and Matt would have no idea they were coming. Tito had no way of giving Matt instruction during the fight. Matt did show guts and heart, that is for sure, but I don’t see him being well rounded enough to be “The next world champion”. The fact that Matt claimed he “was almost at Tito’s level” before the fight is laughable at best.
