TUF Talk

Hey, a new forum just can’t sit around with only a few threads, can it? I figured this is good a place as any to talk about The Ultimate Fighter show if anybody’s interested.

Regarding last night’s fight, how come Matt Riddle never stood up near the end of the fight? I know he said his instinct “made” him do it, but did he not hear his corner? I guess that’s part of the strategy of having your opponent near your corner; you get advice and the other guy can’t hear anything.

I also thought it was weird when Forrest was yelling at Tim to stop trying for an armbar. It’s not like the fight was clearly in his favor or anything. Why not go for it?

All in all a great fight and I’m looking forward to next week!

I was pissed when I heard Forrest telling Tim to not go for the armbar. When you’ve got a guy in that position, why not go for it? Forrest had his fight with Shogun in the bag, yet still went for a submission late in the fight.

No clue as to why Riddle didn’t stand up. Guess he thought if maintained top control and did some G&P he would’ve won the round, forcing a 3rd round.

Still, that was a good fight.

I think Forrest didn’t want him to go for it because he was afraid he’d get reversed. Which doesn’t really make any sense because Tim’s ground game was way better than Riddle’s. Good fight though.

imo neither of these guys are great coaches… honestly best coach on TUF so far has been Jens Pulver and Tito Ortiz

I didnt think it was as much a question of reversal as it would that Riddle would stand up.

Credeur and riddle fighting was good news/bad news. I hate these two the most in the house. Credeur is arrogant - he’s the only one i remembered from the first episode since he was talking about how good he was and how he’d show everyone, or somehting like that. And Riddle is just a fool, plain and simple. So I was gald that one would be gone, but pissed that one would still be in it.

I’m having a real hard time telling hte guys apart this season … maybe it’s just cuz it’s so early on.

I think they were the best at cornering (giving advice during the fight) but I think BJ and his coaches probably offered the most inclusive ‘behind the scenes’ coaching

Tito was good, but was made to look even better thanks to the fact that Shamrock came off as such a tool on that show.

I think out of all the seasons, Serra was probably the best coach. BJ was good and had great assistants in his season as well.

In most of the seasons I have seen, one coach comes off looking like he can’t coach worth shit and the other is great. The season that was the exception was Jens and BJ, IMO.

bj surrounds himself with good people that for sure.

It seems that Forrest is against going for armbars from the top most of the time. I recall he complained about a fighter going for the high risk armbar from the top during the evaluation fights.

I would venture to guess that his philosophy is that if you are on top, stay there at all costs.

I could be mistaken, but wasn’t it Quinton who complained about the flying armbar in the evaluations because it was a “High-risk-maneuver” ?

no i think quinton liked it, “it said somethign about the guys character” is what i believe he said… meaning imo he’ll put it all on the line, which is a good thing.

Wow, not much room for any other TUF fighters on the card. Maybe some of the people who said this season’s fighters weren’t up-to-par were right?

I dont see anything on that card that interests me more than bj vs sherk, machida vs ortiz or jardine vs wandy

Evan Tanner, Marvin Eastman, christ they’re going back in time.

im stilllllllllllllllll hoping evan tanner can launch a comeback :frowning:

Spencer Fisher… shouldn’t he be fighting J-Lau/Baby Joe/Creepy now?

(damn he has more AKA’s than floyd mayweather)

I was yelling at my tv for him to not go for it. I thought he was narrowly ahead on a decision, and I thought he would miss the arm bar judging by how the rest of the fight had gone. There is a big difference between finishing in the mount landing leather, and on the bottom covering up.

I didn’t care for either of them, but I found Riddle’s “my mom drives me to practice” comments pretty annoying.

See that’s a perfect reason to go for it though. Although I personally would’ve given the fight to credeur, there are those who wouldve scored the first round for riddle given teh takedowns, the upkick cause some damage, and that he was teh one pressing the action for the first half of the round. Regardless, it’s all a moot point and looks liek credeur made a good decision to go for it.

Not to pile on, but I honestly think the show has been much better with the very little we’ve seen of Dana in the last two episodes.

I can see why team rampage is pissed, you can make a good case for brandon. All dante had the first round was two lame takedowns and a submission attempt. I dont see how anyone says brandon won the second round, dante was actually doing more htan just laying on top of him in the second round. The third, ehh… Brandon definitely landed a lot of elbows and punches, but did they do much damage? Didnt look like it. Dante threw some knees to even that out and then completely stifled every attempt by brandon to stand. I woulda given the fight to dante, but by a hair. In fact, while they were recepping the fight, I changed my opinion, but regardless, it woulda been questionable either way tehy called it.

WTF was up with mazzagatti telling them to break the clinch tho, then dante takes brandon down and he lets it continue? He said stop, htere was a pause long enough where brandon mighta relaxed and dante jsut figured screw it, im taking him down. terrible decision by mazzagatti
