Ultimate Fighter 3 on SpikeTV

  1. That was by far the best episode of the season. The pool scene was a great touch. The fight was evenly matched and between two skilled opponents.

  2. Ken “Petey, my heart!” Shamrock should not be talking about Kalib punking out. Cracked ribs (or any type of injury to the ribs) are no joke. No matter how tough you think you are, it’s hard to fight when you’re having trouble even getting a breath.

LOL, I forgot about that. I think having heart palpations in the middle of a fight is a bit more serious than some bruised ribs. But, maybe they were broke, hopefully we’ll get to see an X-Ray or some follow up next week. For now it appears to me that Kalib punked out.

I broke two ribs back in highschool, and he was moving way too well to have broken ribs. One was completely broken, one was cracked, and I couldn’t stand, move or breathe for a long, long time. I think he got hammered, and just gave up.
Very disappointing. Not as disheartening as two dumbasses turning down a chance to fight and get back into the show, but disappointing none the less.

Maybe you are a pussy?

Just kidding.

But seriously folks, some people have different levels of pain tolerance. I cracked three ribs playing football in my sophomore year in HS and could barely breathe or lift my arm, much less finish the game. The very next game, one of my teammates caught a helment in the ribs while making a tackle, but he sucked it up and finished the game. After the game, he went to the hospital and discovered he had two cracked ribs and one rib had been separated from his sternum. I’m not sure whether that makes me a pussy or if he was just a beast (I prefer to think the latter is true), but pain thresholds can differ widely between individuals.

It has recently come out that Starnes was also fighting with a broken fibula during the entire taping of TUF3. Stepping into the octagon and throwing/checking kicks with a broken shin doesn’t sound the actions of a pussy to me. I’m going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and assume that his ribs were broken and his ridiculous pain tolerance allowed him to finish the second round and try to gut out the third round.

Either way, I look forward to seeing Kaleb fight again on the undercard of the TUF3 finale.

WTF did the two guys have going through their heads refusing coming back for the semi’s??
‘Thank God for England’…

overall though, an impressive bout. Shame it didnt go till the end. Roll on next week when i hope Ed gets his ass handed to him.

Got to give Kendall credit…I thought Kalib was going to dominate the fight but Kendall showed a lot of heart and landed some good strikes, knees and kicks.

Who knows how severe Kalib’s injury was, but my dad broke his ribs and I know he couldn’t even walk when it happened.

I was happy with this episode and am looking forward to next week’s show.

Agreed here. To be fair i think Kendall uses his tools (legs and arms of neandertal man) very very well. Kendall looked sharp whenever you see him training, esp on the ground so i’d have backed him maybe via a submission in the third before the fight.

Just someone, anyone beat Ed.

I think it was a great fight. I’m curious myself as to whether or not Kalib’s ribs were really broken. Every fight I’ve seen where one fighter’s ribs where broken, they hit the canvas immediately. Where talking about some tough motherfuckers like Heath Herring and Igor Vovchanchyn.

Broken or not, he said “No mas.” Congrats to Kendall.

Heh. Could be.

I’ve broken a number of bones, including a crushed metatarsal from a piano moving accident, and the ribs hurt by FAR the most. Most of the breaks hurt, but I remained functional. Rib went snap, I went down. If Kaleb’s ribs really are broken, and he kept moving and fighting at all, let alone that well, he truly is a beast.

Silva’s broken ribs after a LMK from Cro Cop. He kept fighting, I don’t know how but it was nasty looking.

Definitely one of the better shows IMO, just wish the fight would have gone the distance because it was a good fight.

Yea, I hope too that they give a verdict next week on whether his ribs were broken or not. You could definitely tell throughout the 2nd round that his breathing was seriously labored. At that time, I just thought that he was gassed. The only thing that makes me question the severity of his injury is that he made a comment post fight that he wasn’t used to training this way and thought that he wasn’t conditioned enough. That sort of made me wonder if he was using the injury as a way out because he was starting to get his ass handed to him because he was gassed.

Wait a second, I didn’t watch all of it yet (Tivo’d). Matt isn’t coming back to fight?

This season had four “fighters” in their 30’s.

All four fighters proved to be B.S. artists, it makes you wonder why a skilled fighter would be unsinged in his 30’s.

I don’t get it, are they:

  1. Newbies who started training when they turned 29-30?

  2. Mediocre fighters who have never faced tough opponents?

  3. Are they just past their prime?

Most of the older guys in this show started MMA fighting or training for controlled fighting later in their lives.

Broke three ribs and a concussion during a wrestling match in High School. I kept going. It wasn’t until after my adrenaline lowered that I started to hurt…bad.

Nope. They really didn’t delve into it very deeply at all, which I found odd.

They just had Dana saying “Matt isn’t able to come back and fight, so he won’t be continuing on”

I guess that means we won’t be seeing him again at all? I don’t know, it was kind of weird how they didn’t get specific as to WHY exactly he wasn’t able to come back…

Dana said that his arm had to be pinned next to his body in a sling and can’t be moved. That’s probably why??

Dana said Matt’s arm was really hurt, or something like that, but didn’t give any details.

My favorite part was after the fight, Shamrock was saying “This is what happens when you’re out of shape. He has no one to blame but himself.” Or maybe blame his COACH who hasn’t been doing anything to get them in shape the whole time they are there?

Yes, I got that part. What I meant was, maybe a specific explanation of what his current injury status is, and whether it is completely eliminating him from the competition, or what.

Saying “Matt was in a bad way at the end of that last fight. He couldn’t catch his breath, was throwing up, and now his arm is in a sling” doesn’t really tell me a whole lot as to what is actually wrong with him, or how/why it happened…

It just seemend weird how little time they spent on one of the “top” fighters on the show being unable to fight, when they dedicated basically an entire episode to that one dipshit who left the show to go see his girlfriend.

Better show, better fight, yes. Pool bit, not so much.

It was entertaining that Shamrock played Ortiz, but if you’re going to talk up ‘running the table’ you probably shouldn’t show the end of game two with only one other ball left when he sinks the 8.
