UFC vs. PRIDE FC

Just venting here…Spike channel is showing the Best of Pride FC…

Damn I miss Pride FC…wish I was rich and could bring it back!

+1 for Pride revival

You have heard of Dream right? I mean it’s the same guys who owned pride, minus some of the biggest non-Japanese stars. So basically… what are you whining about?

Wow did you ever watch Pride Beershoes, that comment makes me think you didn’t.

Most of your comments make me think you’ve never watched fights either, but I give you the benefit of the doubt.

How so?

Just seems like you start more arguments, than add useful information. Who knows maybe it’s just the threads I post in.

How does me starting arguments give you the idea that I don’t watch fights?

Do I actually think you don’t watch fights? No. Do I sometimes think you post to be an ass (just as we all can) yes. Do I think the above was one of those times, yes. Because nothing in what I said could possibly convey that I didn’t watch pride. So how did you get that?

Hey, that’s not really the case. The Dream business model, budget, modus operandi etc etc are quite different. Briefly put PRIDE was an international fighting organisation with huge scope, huge paydays, global appeal, and most importantly, they had 80% of the best fighters in the world at some point. Dream is basically Japanese MMA’s attempt at survival. The sport can’t even get people over there interested now, let alone a global audience.

It’s true they’ve changed their MO, but I’m guessing that’s because the huge shows, extravagant showmanship, and big payouts for fighters (not sure on that last one). Although the aforementioned reasons are probably also what made them a defunct organization.

Look Pride was the best organization at the time, best fighters, awesome entrances, tournaments. It just seemed weird you would try and say DREAM was comparable in anyway.

Mostly what I meant was that I don’t see what there is to miss. All the same fighters (at least those that I really liked) still fight in some organization or another, and in my opinion more of the top tier fighters are consolidated within the UFC. I also wasn’t a fan of the ring.

Fair enough but you won’t see tournies, awesome entances, kicks or stomps in the UFC.

Pride was so deep back in the day. Hendo/Wand/Anderson Silva/CroCop/Fedor/Coleman the list goes on. I loved the Grand Prix they did. I only wish that Pride had the coverage stateside that UFC has now on Spike.

Soccer kicks to the head and stomps. Crazy cool walkouts like drewh has said. El Guapo as an announcer.

Is it just me or does the UFC need some of that ‘zaz’?

No it’s not just you. The showmanship was many times better than the UFC. I loved when before the fights actually started they’d have the fighters all come out and stand on a stage. Of course the crazy lady would yell their names and you’d see Alistair Overeem heft his hammer and Rampage doing the howl.

Just no Takada playing drums in a diaper.

pride was way bettre due to kicks and knees on the ground which made for a more realistic fight and made grappling less effective and was more like a real fight which is what people wanna see

yeah cause dat grappling shit aint real fighting aand dos knees when fuck dat shit up…word son

The “crazy lady” was actually an enormously crazy dude.

I loved how they had these hotties in the commentator box who’d barely be able to restrain their tears.
The music was way more dramatic. The artworks were amazing.
The crowd’s admiration for the fighters was also a contrast to UFC booing choirs.
Bas: “a reversal!” Crowd: polite applause

However, the soccer kicks had to go, one of the few things that UFC did better.
