You think Dias is a “great” fighter? You really want to stand behind that comment?

Does that mean that everyone with a 12-5 record is great in your opinion? Or is it just Diaz?
Who cares about record, Just look at Cain , you fuckin MMAthematician

I love watching the Diaz brothers fighting, they are strange and funny.

Learning how to spell is a big improvement, you silly keyboard warrior.

Diaz is exciting to watch, but he’s not great. Now go take a breath.

Yeah, I will stand behind that comment.

I think he brings a unorthodox and entertaining style to the UFC and MMA in general, just like his brother.

Do I think he is champion material?

Nah. But I don’t think it takes being a champion to be ‘great’.

I was impressed in his fight with Rory Markham at 170. I never thought he weighed 170 in the first place, and I never thought we’d see him fight above 155.

He’s a skinny guy but he has a good skill set. He’s beat some good fighters. He’s managed to surprise me in most of the fights of his that I’ve seen.

Great, good, skilled, whatever you want to say. It’s all just semantics.
No actually it isn’t. Why dont’t you look up the proper meaning of the words “great” and “good” then get back to me. No actually don’t get back to me just read it and move on.

Nate Diaz six finishes and 2/3 losses were split decisions and he’s only 25. He could be a champ some day.

I hate those critics, go fight MMA if it’s so easy expert…

Even he doesn’t become a champ, his style is fun as hell to watch. I mean, those hands waving on the air…

no one said it was easy. that doesn’t mean you can’t say someone is not great. Wouldn’t you be disqualified from calling him great if having a fight under your belt was required in the judging? and just because Diaz could be a future champ, does not make him great. so many guys are “can’t miss” guys in every sport. most miss. future potential does not make you great.

I am a huge Diaz fan. both brothers. Nate is not what I would deem a “great” fighter. A great fighter would have held a belt i think that is a minimum requirement.

Even though I am not a fan, Anderson Silva is great. So is GSP. And BJ Penn. Fedor. I am not ready to place Machida there though many seem to be. Matt Hughes was great. Many title defenses, domination of opponents. Look at Anderson, GSP, and BJ in their last fights. GSP tooled Hardy and Alves in title defenses. Anderson made my boy Forrest look like a fool while stepping up in weight class. Sanchez never came close to threatening BJ at any point in their fight. These guys are facing the best competition at their weight class(and above in some instances) and not just winning but dominating. Please, I dare you to say that Diaz belongs in that class of fighters.

I consider Nick great, Kenny Florian, Rampage, Urijah Faber, MTB, Machida, Shogun, they are all great. When did great mean the absolute best?

this is the problem with talking about sports. great is so overused. everything is a “great” play, everyone is a “great” fighter/player. i take great to mean someone or something that is outstanding. if those guys you listed are great, how do you describe AS, BJ, GSP, Fedor? Great too? They’re in the same category? KenFlo and BJ? Faber is in the same category as GSP? For the record, i like the guys you mentioned (minus rampage). I love the Diaz Bros as fighters. but not everyone who has a good record or even has a few great fights is great. great is the upper echelon. if everybody is great, no one stands out. no one is outstanding. and isn’t that what great is?

Elite. Maybe phenomenal.

well i guess we just disagree. to me, great = elite. i don’t see how you can be great at something if you are not in the elite class of those that do it. there is nothing wrong with being a good fighter. most of the fighters i follow i consider good, not great. it is difficult to create an example with mma due to its relatively short existence, but to pull from boxing, Ali and Frazier were great. Oscar De La Hoya(though one of my favorites) was good.

In the levels I see it as:

Great

Very Good

Good

so on. there are a lot of good fighters. some very good. but only a few great. to me, if KenFlo is great, then Diego Sanchez is great. And after his fight with BJ, are we willing to call Diego great? Florian has losses to Penn, Diego, Sherk, and Drew Fickett. Is that great?

I just think the term has become watered down.

The leglock fight (forget names) as well as the mir fight were slow stops. The dude with the leg lock (name?) def should have let up before the rep jumped in there. You dont stop till the ref stops the fight but you def dont keep crankin hard especially when the guy is tappin ON YOU! he was tappin on his side! Mir was face down out and took 3 or 4 to the head. Usually UFC reps er on the side of caution, not this time!

Love watchin both Diaz brothers (despite their gangster attitudes) I wish they would get in the gym and get some heat behind those punches. Both are hard nose skilled fighters but dont have power to put someone down.

Bros, you are getting all wrong, there are Great Fighters and there is GOD(Fedor)

While I agree with your main point, I’d actually say that Faber should be considered in the same class as BJ, GSP, and AS. He was just as dominant for a period there at his weight class as any of those guys and is still right up there as one of the best featherweights of all time. His record is also comparable to any of those guys (other than Fedor, who IMO is in a class by himself).

Faber fights are awesome, i still can’t believe Mike Brown owned him.

But, Aldo is going to keep that belt forever

Miguel Torres too, I hope he can get back on track.

ditto Carwin, Valasquez (sp?) Mir, Nog, etc

How about tonight’s fight night?

I didn’t watch many fights except for the Roy nelson vs. Stefan Struve fight.

Stefan Struve seems to get knocked down fairly easily in the 3 or 4 fights of his that I have seen.

How do you all think Nelson would fare against any of the heavyweight contenders?

I know he beat Frank Mir in a grappling competition before, but otherwise, I really don’t know too much about the guy.

nice win by Florian. Gomi looked uncomfortable, I think a major part of that was Florian’s committment to his jab.

I think Nelson can hold his own with most of the division. He looked good last night.
