Sean Sherk is without a doubt the worst style match-up at lightweight for BJ Penn, so that fight is going to be HUGE. If BJ can beat Sherk, I think we see him going after GSP because I don’t think anyone else at LW can hang with what he brings to the cage.
Somewhat… It’s still yet to be seen how Sean Sherk performs now that he’s not juicing and besides that, he relies almost solely on taking down and overwhelming people from the top position, but doesn’t really have a jiujitsu game and his G n P is not that great, now given BJ’s sick flexibility and jiujitsu skills, I wouldn’t be surprised if the fight ended with BJ submitting Sherk from the bottom.
A rematch against GSP would be awesome, but if he stays in the LW division, they might be a few interesting matches as well…
I just saw the bocek-danzig fight, and from now on i’ll watch a bocek fight anytime. Just game, never gassed, kept coming forward. There’ve been some GREAT lw fights lately, with florian-lauzon, diaz-pelligrino coming to mind. Stout, fisher, clementi and huerta are also guys I would love to see mix it up. I dont know that they are all ready for title shots, but with that many guys who are gonna give you a fight, you can get some great matchups
florian isnt officially the #1 contender, right? How about him vs huerta for a shot at the title, i think that’d be a great fight.
ufc 84 is going to be sick, I’d like to see bj-sherk go the distance. assuming that bj comes in good condition that would be 25 sick minutes of fighting. And I hope machida tools on ortiz … not to mention the dean of mean vs the axe murderer … oh man, im getting excited for it already
Hell I was amazed when he transitioned from that Superman punch to low kick…I wouldn’t say it was a factor, but I would love to see a GIF of that.
He actually snuck a straight right in there too…sick.

First off, if he was juicing, he was barely over the limit before, and just had almost a year to use in training without being tested , so that is moot point.
Secondly, his takedowns and top control is why he is a bad match up. BJ has never submitted anyone off his back, he is a brilliant top control grappler, and Sean Sherk is without a doubt going to be damn hard to sweep. His cardio is superhuman, if he gets BJ on his back consistently he can grind out an ugly win.
BJ needs to use his reach and boxing and win this on the feet, and when he gets Sherk beat up, bleeding, and swinging wild with those T-Rex arms he can put him down and make the transition to back control and go for that RNC. I think BJ will win, and I think that’s how he does it.

I missed that!
I hope that fight happens, my wife and I were just talking about how cool that would be.

Could/would/should they fight at a catch-weight?
178?

GSP has said that it may happen later, but right now he doesn’t want to jump in line in front of his training partners.
what did you guys think of the crowd? The crowd reaction was classic with the Quarry fight… rather than boo, they started a collective “BORING, BORING…”

Sounds like a pretty good prediction, I just hope BJ trains hard for it and gets his cardio where it needs to be. He should not loose this fight.
you know givin gsp track record in champ
fights is 2-2 and if history holds true with
next fight with a new fighter at 170 or 185
he’ll lose, so he’ll have to work harder
not to lose the next fight! he can be a great champ.
I’d love to see a Rich Franklin-Dan Henderson fight in the near-future.
Lutter certainly hasn’t done himself any favors in his last 2 fights. He misses weight against Silva, then gasses after 1 round against Franklin.
Starnes should be banned from the UFC after that performance. What the hell was that?
GSP’s wrestling is crazy right now. He tore through Serra just as he did Hughes. I think Fitch will be a good fight for him, though. I also think a fight against Diego Sanchez would be good, business-wise for the UFC. Diego has a good fan following and has proven to be a solid draw for the company. Not that he would win, but it would generate some PPV buys.
I’ve heard a bunch of people say he admitted to throwing the fight on the radio because he was unhappy with the UFC and this was his final fight on his contract.

He HAD to have been injured … right? Has anyone heard anything about this?
