UFC 82: Hendo vs Silva

Damn how the direction of the fight changed so quickly.

Did anyone else see Silva as being disrespectful towards Henderson? What was with him not touching Henderson’s glove in the first round? Did anyone else think it was disrespectful by saying “the only true champion he fought was Franklin”?

Anyways, awesome card all around. All the fights were entertaining.

After how he finished Henderson, who cares? He’s always respectful. Like you said…awesome card all around.

You can watch 3 of the fights here if you missed them.

Silva is the man. I’d like to see a GSP and Silva custom fight at 178 - meet in the middle type thing. I know Silva would still have the advantage of being bigger, but still, there’s nobody left to fight Silva.

he said that shit about franklin being the only true champion because henderson said a bunch of bullshit about him not fighting anyone who wasn’t tailor made for him. basically discrediting all of his previous wins.

so in that respect. fuck it he deserved a lil swagger.

that and he walked into DMX

FUCK YEA

You do see though what i said allllll through this fucking thread? If hendo had a chance of winning it was holding silva down and giving him a noogie the entire time.

hendo tried to stand, that shit stopped working out (though he faired quite a bit better than i anticipated) and i said if it goes to the ground he’s just getting sub’d

bada-fucking-bing

so happy with that fight.

kongo is developing at a scary rate
same with koscheck, he’s gotten a lot better.

wow. Anderson is the fucking man. He finished him in the 2nd fucking round. Think about it, this is a guy who Rampage, the number 1 light heavyweight in the world, struggled to beat over 5 rounds. Very very impressive.

What in the hell is next??? Surely some sort of super fight with Rampage or GSP?

I think Fitch looked very vulnerable tonight. I was looking forward to Gono giving him a hell of a fight (and doing some flamboyant ring walk!). Good fighter but GSP will fuck him up if they fight. I think it would be stopped inside 2 rounds.

On another note, how bad did the crowd SUCK? The atmosphere was terrible.

First, it’s obviously difficult to understand exactly what he meant, but this is what I thought as well. Anderson and Rich are friends and have a lot of respect for each other, and Henderson said Franklin was a nobody.

When I grow up I want to be like Anderson Silva. If you look up MMA in the dictionary there should be a big ass picture of that dude. Hendo if a tough mofo, but that head kick and knee had to given him some brain damage. As much as I hate the “pound for pound” saying, Anderson is now the best in my mind. No one has a more complete arsenal than Silva.

Kongo was pretty impressive I thought. Watch out, the French are coming!

Loved the Matt Serra hate.

Mark Coleman/Lesnar…that should be entertaining.

If you are drunk and scream “USA!!!” when Okami is whooping that ass, he gets to fight you at the next PPV.

Somebody loves BJ Penn. A lot.

Why the fuck didn’t they show the Arlovski fight? I have to sit through a half hour of the same promo clip 11 times over, but I don’t get to see Arlovski finsh a fight via TKO? Thanks Dana White! You fucking twit.

To what extent do you think that all of that was pre-fight hype though? Too often we see guys badmouthing eachother, discrediting the other guy’s wins, talking about their mothers and how they’re gunna rape their kids and all that horseshit. I can only imagine the influence Dana White has on what these guys say.

I honestly don’t believe that Hendo legitimately thought Franklin was a nobody. After the fights, you always see what the fighters truly feel come out in the post-fight interviews.

Wow. Well, I lost a few hundred bucks. Silva’s an indisputable stud. I feel bad for Hendo, though. I do think that with a better strategy it might’ve ended differently, as Dan really did control the first round pretty well. But you catch one of Silva’s knees and the whole direction of the thing changes. That was the beginning of the end.

I can’t stand it when the crowd starts to boo the fighters. what a bunch of fucking assholes. Give me a ticket to that fucker and i woudln’t be booing anybody. If any of these people were real MMA fans and not just rich assholes with connections and money to burn, they wouldn’t behave this way. it almost seems like they dont understand what is going on.

Ground work is just as big as an aspect as striking, get it through your thick skulls. You want flashy shit, go to the circus or a jackie chan movie.

Also, silva is unbeatable and will probably be for a while. See those fucking crazy kicks he was doing, shit man. those things came out of nowhere.

I agree sometimes a person makes a statement and it gets taken out of context, but the majority of anybody who hear’s his statement pretty much got the same idea, so im inclined to believe that it was the point he was trying to get across without being absurdly brash about it dana white style, “fuck that fucker in his fucking fuckhole ill fucking fuck him the fuckity fuck-lickity wikky wikky remix the fuck up to-fucking-night”

good point from the other poster about it being possible pre-fight hype. True, and if so done well, still unwarranted imo, but that would be more of the ufc aka wanna be wwe pushing. I understand drama builds tension but this is one fight that DID NOT require it at all.

imo, judging by how he acted post fight that was just hendo, he really felt that silva had nothing for him and he thought silva was all hype and just fought chumps. Thats pretty easy to conclude if you watch how silva dismantles them… or look at who they fought previously, Franklin cleaned out his division for the most part but its not like he had some big names to match up against.

But NONE of them were slouches and all were actually bad matchups for silva imo. They were all “supposed” to exploit one of silva’s weaknesses. But Hendo in my mind obviously thought silva’s record was padded.

Then silva made him tap

not a bs decision
not a questionable stoppage
not some kind of accident or slip up

SILVA MADE HENDERSON SAY “I GIVE UP”

tap. tap. tap.

damn.

man 2nd round win. wow. and at the PINNACLE of hendo’s ‘domination’ of the fight all he could do is lay on top of silva and pat him on the top of the head. WOW.

This is absurdly impressive shit.

I think silva can be beaten but its either by fluke or by a seriously BAAAAAAAD motherfucker. who do you all think would win?

imo, no one in the 170 division has shit for him, but he does have quite a few good matchups in the 205 division.
rampage is obviously a great fight. liddel would be interesting, talk about a standup war. houston alexander isnt ready for him but it would a fun fight to watch (he is 205 right?) for the entire 85seconds it would last.

also with guys like

wanderlei
shogun
bisping i think (not sure, prob. wrong)

talking about dropping to 185, he’d still have some interesting matchups. I think shogun could hang with him pretty well. He’s like a more wild, less technical (but way more unpredictable) anderson. Wanderlei is always interesting to watch, but he hasn’t been himself lately depending more on his boxing than his thaiboxing.

I ended up 9-1 in my picks tonight except for Hendo vs. Silva…that being said, I’m sold on Silva and will never bet against him again. He avoided any real damage in the 1st round and manhandled Hendo in the 2nd; I honestly never saw that coming, he finished Hendo off like he was anybody else.

I thought Kongo did enough to eke out a split decision, but hell, it worked out for me in the end. I told my buddy to bet on Herring, and during the fight he was looking at me and shaking his head…all I could say was “uh…Kongo never had a ground game before this fight…” fucking amazing how fast he developed, he could actually be a legit contender sometime soon.

Leben fight was fun as usual, but it must suck to be an eternal gatekeeper.

Okami looked solid, while Tanner seems to be past his prime…but no matter how you look at it, Silva just makes everyone in MW look bad in comparison.

Fitch is…Fitch…Wilson looked to be gassing around the 2nd and got outworked.

And Koscheck actually had an exciting fight for once! Anybody notice Hazelett’s body as he received that last headkick? If he had wings he’d start flying…

Amazing card though, and the next 3 look even better.[/quote]

can u guys pleaseee send me the video for the koscheck vs hazelett fight, he is my 2nd fav after anderson silva and i reallyy wanna see how he improved

Totally agree with you mate.

Why is everyone so impressed with Kongo? He looked like shit. He got rocked in the standup and took the fight to the ground??? On the ground he couldn;t control the position and got out grappled by Heath Herring! Herring is one sloppy ground fighter at the best of times, and he even said he hadn’t trained ground as he wasn’t expecting it. I can’t beleive people were saying he is the no 1 contender if he beats Herring.

It was quite an entertaining fight but very very sloppy. It was really getting on my nerves how Rogan kept going on about how good he looked. I know he has a job to do and Dana has been hyping him, but good compared to what??? He is not ready for Nog at all.

Yeah, I think this is why he said what he said about Franklin. And lets not act as if Henderson has continually conducted himself in a classy manner, he has expressed a lot of opinions in regards to Brazilian fighters without proof (regarding steroid use, as if the other fighters in the sport are “clean.”) Plus the way he treated Wanderlei after he beat him was a bit disrespectful. Its great that he speaks his mind, and I doubt he was offended about Anderson saying that shit about Franklin.

You know, my Muay Thai coach is always going on and on about that front kick to the head and I’ll drill it, but in the back of my mind I’m always thinking “who the fuck is ever going to use this?” Guarunteed that is going to be at least a half an hour of our next class after Silva executed it perfectly.
