If the term “definitive advantage” ever applied to multiple aspects of a fight, Mir vs Brock definitively fits the bill

Sorry hombre, but I don’t roll that way. Running my “fucking” mouth is just how I bring my deranged ideas to T-Nation. If it gets you all worked up, just ignore me. I’m not going to censor myself, but you certainly shouldn’t get your lifting drawers all in a bunch over my dipshit sarcastic comments.
Secondly, I don’t think I ever doubted Lesnar’s work ethic or talent. I was simply trying to make the point that size and strength isn’t the end all be all of MMA.
Hmm. Alright. I speak sarcasm and have certainly made some dipshit comments my self. The internet is a challenging forum for shit like that and it is hard to determine where somebody is coming from.
I’m not really in that big of a twist. It’s just how I communicate. I am probably at about level 3 right now. No big deal.
I’ll see you back here after the fight. Actually, all this back and forth has made me more excited than I was before.
I’m really glad to see this, all the name calling yesterday was getting on my nerves.lol
p.s. Just watched the Min Soo Kim fight, and while I can fully appreciate how horrible a guy with that kind of strength can make you feel when he’s on top op you, I hope he brings more than that to Frank Mir or it will be a short night for him. He passed quickly, and his punches were enough to cause his opponent to tap, but for all of his monsterous strength he failed to break the body lock and posture up to really cause some damage. Of course with his athletic backround and training he’s sure to have improved since then.

From what I remember, that fight lasted about 40 seconds. There wasn’t really much to analyze.

Does anyone know of Lesnar videos as an amateur wrestler? I was looking around, couldn’t find anything from his time at U of M.
Here is his 1999 NCAA finals loss to Stephen Neal
His 2000 NCAA finals win used to be on Youtube, but it appears to have been yanked.[/quote]
Interesting…Stephen Neal is a guard for the Patriots. Considering he didn’t play college football and is now 305lbs. Must be hell of an athlete in his own right.

Yeah Min Soo Kim came in on less than a weeks notice anyway. I doubt he was up for it.
After watching the countdown I think Mir and Nog will win.
Mir looks very focused and he looks like he has the right game plan, and has had the right sort of preparation. Lesnar looks horrible standing but I guess he’s got some power in those hands. Looks like Mir is gonna stick and move and make Lesnar shoot from way outside. If Mir catches him and puts him on his back, Lesnar is fucked.
Nog’s training looked very good, and he sounds very confident and focused. Sylvia looked a bit unmotivated to me. Nog looks way more up for it.
I’m going to jump out on a limb and make some picks so you guys can ridicule me afterwards if I’m wrong.
I think Noguiera finds a way to submit Sylvia after taking some punishment in the first couple of rounds. Lesnar over Mir by setting a fast pace for the fight which Mir can’t match, avoids submissions, and then pounds Mir out in the third when Mir ends up gasing.
Marquardt over Horn
Griffin
Almeida in what should be the easiest fight to pick out of this card

The one thing I noticed about Mir’s training is that he didn’t have a single bead of sweat on him, nor did they show any conditioning work. Meanwhile, just about the only training they showed of Brock was conditioning work.
It’s probably just a case of editing down 10 hours of footage into a 20 minute time slot, but considering Mir’s penchant for gassing early and often, it did cause me to raise an eyebrow.
I’m sticking with my prediction of Lesnar delivering a brutal Ian Freeman style beatdown.
In other news:
Ok, I’ve come up with my official picks:
Nog Submission Rd 4
Mir Sub Rd 1
Marqhardt UD
Griffin UD
Terry Martin KO Rd 2
Mine:
Mir: Sub rd 1
Nog: Sub rd 3
Apparently at the weigh-ins, Lesnar received a ton of boos, even more than Sylvia, who’s usually the most-hated man on any card he fights on. Obviously a lot of anti-pro wrestlers in attendance. Should be interesting to see what the reaction is tomorrow.
Also will be interesting to see what happens with Lesnar. If he loses his first 2 fights, will he stick with it?
Consider:
Quit WWE. Stated reason was he wanted to play football, but real reasons were that he didn’t like the travel and was unhappy with the direction of his character (he was booked as an unbeatable his first year, then started doing jobs to mid-card guys about 6 mo. before he left).
Quit football. Minnesota offered him a chance to go to NFL Eurpoe to develop his skills, but he turned them down.
Looks to me that once things stop going his way, Lesnar looks for a quick exit. I could see this happening if his MMA career doesn’t get off to a good start.

I wouldn’t read too much into that stuff, it was outside his field. No one dominates wrestling from the get-go (unless you’re Cael Sanderson.) It is an exercise in patience, determination, and hardwork…especially at the collegiate level.

I was referring to his WWE days.

Nah.
I think the guy is just a homebody.
He didn’t like being on the road 300 days a year in pro wrasslin’, and he didn’t want to spend five months living in Europe playing in NFLE for the pittance that the NFL paid those guys.

I think slimjim was just saying that while he may not have stuck with the wwf/nfl, that doesnt mean he’s a quitter at everything, ie, quitters wouldnt last on hs wrestling team, let alone the U of MN

Yeah it’s true that Mir didn’t look like he was working that hard. Mir’s training looked more focused on technique and strategy than conditioning. Like you say, it’s hard to tell because it’s just a small piece of training footage.
Sylvia looked particularly unmotivated during the interview, but then he could just be fed up with interviews.
My Predictions:
Weigh-in pics:
Also, it’s confirmed that Shogun is fighting Liddell in June.
Nog by UD
Lesnar by TKO in the 2nd
Marquardt by UD
Martin by KO

That is probably what he was driving at. I think Lesnar’s a stud, and I hope he does stick around for a while. Perhaps I’m just trying to read too much into those situations…especially after watching the All-Access show this morning. Guy really is just a simple, down-to-earth guy. Lives on 43 acres, has no cell phone or Internet. I can respect him for that; especially when you see how hard he trains.
I think the UFC is heavily relying to much on Lesner to get the HW division back on its feet. Its an all or Nothing kind of thing. Lesner HAS to win back the appeal because theres no denying that the HWs are on its last legs.
Mazagatti fucked that up pretty bad.
I was feeling pretty good about my prediction of a Freeman style beatdown … right up until I saw Frank lock in that kneebah.
Regardless, Lesnar looked like a manbeast. If he sticks with it, he is going to be force in a year or two.
